I've tried googling for Dale's with no luck, but reckon our final average will be higher whilst finishing in the bottom half of L2 (or fourth tier) for decades

Got them back to 1921 (at a time when millions of people watched Hornets, apparently), although they weren't accurate or complete back in those days.

If i were to hazard a guess, we could be looking at before the first promotion in 68/69 (mainly due to KH dragging us into the top half in both 2006/07 & 2012/13

Our current average gate after 22 home games is 2784 Assuming a gate of around 4500 on Saturday, that'd take our season's average to about 2850 which imo is pretty decent considering our position in the table In fact, i'm struggling to think of the last time we averaged above 2800 whilst finishing in the bottom half of L2?

According to this we averaged 2808 when we last finished in the bottom half of League Two which was 2005/2006. It doesn't go back much further than that though

It would seem that in terms of recruiting new supporters we are only just replacing those who fall away. Nothing we have done in the last 100 years has resulted in a dramatic increase in support... still being here is more or less our only claim to fame. Considering the marketing initiatives that have been tried over the last 20 years the number of core supporters simply isn't really shifting. So its time to look at the demographics and re-build from the bottom.

Maybe its now time to start with U11s and U16s and offer £50 AND £75 season tickets until they turn 18 and then charge £100 until they turn 21 in an attempt to cement the habit of watching Dale in the kids and their parents and friends. Constancy of Purpose, High Quality Interactions and a recognition that "Transformation is everyone's job" is what is needed.

We are in an ideal position to implement change, we have thrown out the old guard, much of our local competition is withering. People are desperate to be associated with success and enthusiasm. Lets not revert to the old arguments of "been there , tried that, it didn't work", that was then, this is now. Fans own and run the club, we have a thriving Trust, in 12 months or so we can re-implement the Gold Bond and re-engage with a huge potential audience. We have great connections in local schools, long term sponsors and willing volunteers. Let us re-examine everything to see how it might be improved, lets be creative, diligent and take criticism as a desire to improve not a personal insult.

We know we can't win every game, and even if we did, would that alone solve the small crowds problem? In the 60s , 4000 was fairly common for a "gate", all those men who watched then are more or less gone. We knew we weren't First division, we stood on cinders and threw loose change into a blanket at half time, but the habit was formed and 60 odd years later the appeal of a home game is as strong as ever. We need an initiative that creates the habit but now we need more enthusiasm more entertainment and much better club to crowd relationships. There are far more demands on our time and wallets than the 1960s but the 21st Century kids want lasers and noise and excitement, the wow factor that every other person on TV is looking for. Not a crappy tannoy, dim lights and the same old same old.

There is no reason why this cannot be the best "Club" in the EFL, maybe not the best team but if we can improve one thing every day, every week, every season, who knows where it could take us? Constancy of Purpose. Doing everything better, 1% improvements every day. We have nothing to lose if we do and maybe everything if we don't.

Indeed we should. Especially as there is much we could do to reduce overheads. The Main stand roof could be covered in solar panels, all the lights swapped for LEDs, and maybe some of these installed on the other stands...

Add a couple of Tesla batteries and we would make large savings on the electricity bills.
Similarly we could install some electric vehicle charging points and get some revenue from them.
We need to fight on all fronts to both make money and save money as long as the cost /benefit works. Maybe some of what is needed can be paid for by sponsorship from the manufacturers and distributors.

These types of initiatives may take time to come to fruition in terms of footfall, or young players coming through the ranks, but it's vital if any new faces appear at the COA on matchday they're made to feel welcome

The solar panels is an excellent idea and there are 3 huge stand areas that could have them installed.

I don't think LEDs need a rewire for the most part, certainly not inside the buildings, well my house didn't need a rewire at least, I have LEDs in every light fitting. My neighbour has LED floodlights that didn't need any extra wiring. I recall that the club were saying the main floodlights needed replacing and I have no idea about what would be required for that job , but even so , if they need to be done it makes sense to use LEDs. all the other stadium lights can be redone as LEDs including the lighting under the stands.

Confirms what i suspected - our average gate is the highest whilst finishing in the bottom half of the 4th tier since 1965/66, which was my first season

2003/04 had quite a bit of optimism around Alan Buckley being given the job so possibly sold a reasonable amount of season tickets. Some clubs bringing big away followings as well Hull, Huddersfield, Bury, Macclesfield, Doncaster. And then towards the end I think there was a big push to get behind Parkin and saving us from relegation. First day of the season also was the year Yeovil made their debut and had us away first game and brought a huge following considering the distance. In typical Dale fashion they beat us as well.

Wish I'd wiped my memory of Alan Buckley's time in charge
