Dykes and Bonne. 18:51 - Feb 27 with 10628 views | BostonR | Really want these two to cut it, but given their respective performances and lack of goals between them, how are they going to turn it around? On current stats they will end up with 12-16 goals between them for the season, which is not good enough. Dykes is struggling with his game in the Championship - just cannot finish and Bonne gets in good positions and again cannot finish. Not sure how much the club invested in them, but on current performances and goal return, they both look out of their depth in the Championship. Problem is, who will take them off our hands?
Dykes and Bonne. on 19:18 - Feb 27 with 5938 views | Rs_Holy | I did worry a bit when the respective managers of their previous teams seemed so happy for them to move on! Lee Bowyer said £2Million for Charlton was very good business... wonder what he would have taken for Bonne??? He was Happy to let Bonne go and replace him with Conor Washington!!! I think Dykes is very low on confidence right now ...but I do think he can be a good player in a Niall Quinn type way... ie not prolific but a handful for oppo defenses?
Dykes and Bonne. on 20:10 - Feb 27 with 5751 views | Gloucs_R | Dykes needs to have an amazing Euros and then we can sell him on. I think he'd benefit from a season in league 1.

Dykes and Bonne. on 21:11 - Feb 27 with 5646 views | paulparker | Both are not up to it and have been given plenty of chances to prove otherwise, if by some miracle any club stupid enough to offer money for them we should take it Thank the stars we signed Austin otherwise we would be bottom three , it’s about the only thing TF has got right here in ten years
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Dykes and Bonne. on 08:37 - Feb 28 with 5137 views | stevec | I love this idea that we must give them time to develop, we paid 2 million quid for each of them!!!!! As I’ve said, apart from Dickie, we did terrible business last summer and it’s cost us big time. There’s a reason MW kept putting out the same tired side, the bench is largely not up to it.
Dykes and Bonne. on 08:57 - Feb 28 with 5100 views | gazza1 | I have my doubts about both of these players......work hard but ability is limited. Kelman hasn't pleased me either but not seen him much so a little harsh. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Well we probably haven't paid that much as some of it will be target related. However, even if we did, that is cheap for forwards. We wanted Kiefer Moore but he chose Cardiff, not just for money. We wanted Nakki Wells but Burnley cashed in and so did he. We wanted Hugill, ditto. We have searched long and hard for strikers that wouldn't be loans and that we could afford. They both had reasonable but short track records and we knew we weren't getting the finished article. Yes in terms of goals, they have underperformed but, with P&S rules, they are what we can afford so we have to trust MW and his team to keep working with them.
Dykes and Bonne. on 12:24 - Feb 28 with 4872 views | timcocking | Win some, lose some. These two seem completely out of their depth. Unless Warburton is seeing something we haven't, just have to bite the bullet and cut our losses. A front four of Adomah, Charlie, Willock with Chair behind looks useful I can't see why the Hell either of them are getting a kick. One too many cliches (where's the accent button when i need it?) perhaps, but it is a football forum after all.

Agreed. I thought he played well. Good hold-up play and brought the team into it. Our best spell of the game was engineered by Dykes. Willock was quiet, but a nice bit of play to bring Johansen in for that big chance.

Dykes and Bonne. on 13:32 - Feb 28 with 4789 views | Guppy | Im not too concerned at the moment as theyve both stepped up a level and are getting in the positions and just need to learn to relax a bit which will come with experience. I work with a young bloke who watches Southend regularly . He say Kelman is is not good enough for their league let alone ours. He thinks they knew we had the Eze money and screwed us on the fee. I suppose our scouts must see something in him and so must Warburton for him to get so near a starting spot. Its early days for all 3 of these players but we risked an awful lot by starting the season with them alone .

Bamford example is a great shout. There were times watching him in the Championship you would never have thought he was good enough for that league let along the Prem. Can’t argue that he’s now doing great in the Prem. Young Harry Kane on his early loans also springs to mind. Plenty of sage old heads saying he would never cut it even in the lower leagues. Clumsy, slow, etc. Dykes and Bonne are a bit older to be fair and obviously it’s unlikely they’ll turn into Bamford and Kane. But too early to write them off completely. I’d love to see what Dykes looks like after a few goals. They might still be the reincarnation of Conor Washington but they’re what we’ve got and what we need to try to develop. And that means playing them.
Dykes and Bonne. on 17:32 - Feb 28 with 4594 views | bakerloo8 | Jury is definately out on both of these for me. Charlie will more than likely be gone in the summer and we will be back to square one and need one of these to fire of we will have the same problems that we has pre Austin this season. Dykes seems like an ok target man, but a bit of a poor mans Helguson (who always had an eye for goal). What is worrying is that lack of goalscoring positions Dykes gets into, though hopefully in his time with us Chas can teach him a few things which would help greatly. Cant have a forward leading the line with 5 goals a season, we will get relegated. Bonne, I am a little bit more optimistic. He does get into some great positions, just keeps missing. A bit of coaching, improving and settling into this level and I think he could be an ok goalscorer at this level.

I agree with you on Bonne mate hopefully and all my Charlton mates said exactly the same as you when we signed him which is quite positive.

How can you argue they didn't cost that? Unless you actually know? None of us do. We can only go on snippets from the media. 👠

Dykes and Bonne. on 10:21 - Mar 1 with 4316 views | gazza1 | Why go on about how much each they cost, what wages they are earning, etc , etc.......only the few 'think' (they dont but...) they know these details. TBH I am only interested in their playing ability and what I have personally seen. From what I have seen these 2 players and Kelman should not be good enough be be playing most weeks.....they are because we have no better but, for me, they are pretty average players and very lucky to be playing at Championship level. Mybe they will improve but I have not seen any improvement thus far.
Dykes and Bonne. on 11:14 - Mar 1 with 4266 views | qprphil | I've seen Bonne play some games at National League level, and to be frank he never stood out to me. Charlton obviously saw something when they bought him, and we did also. I think Dykes has the best chance of making the grade tbh, if nothing else his overall play is better than Bonne.

Yes mate. My Charlton mate said they rated Bonne there but he was definately raw and in need of a good deal of coaching. Think that is where we are at with this kid.
Dykes and Bonne. on 11:40 - Mar 1 with 4224 views | daveB | Bonne hasn't started anywhere near enough games or been given a run in the side to judge him imo, he has ability but clearly has a lot to learn. This has been obvious for a while that you get what you pay for, 1/2 million strikers are not going to be the finished article and are real gambles which is why the club went for 5/6million players on loan the last few years. Bonne and Dykes both look capable of getting better to me but both signings were risky and could easily go wrong.
Dykes and Bonne. on 11:48 - Mar 1 with 4211 views | simmo | If you want proven strikers at this level you need to be paying a fck load more than we have to spend, and even then it's not a guaranteed thing. We had Premiership players who didn't look up to it most years, and that was all for dead money. Forest are paying an eye watering amount of wages to Loyal Taylor atm, and he's on less goals than Dykes and is now warming the bench. The market for strikers is mental and it's why we've had to use the loan market for years - we finally try to break the cycle by purchasing young players with development potential, and people want to fck them off after half a season... We paid for the players they could become, hence why the transfer fees we pay and the wages we offer are massively incentive based. Dykes and Bonne are making big step ups in a covid season with a new team where the main creative supply is currently Todd bloody Kane. Give them a chance FFS. Also anybody suggesting writing off Kelman already... Embarrassing.

Did notice too that Dykes' first touch was very good indeed vs Brum. His hold up play was better too. It's when he's got the ball at feet in the penalty area he's looks lumbering and ungainly. Two times vs Brum he picked the ball up on the left hand side of their box in a good position and just didn't move it through his feet well enough. He looked off balance. One shot was going wide and the second time he fell over. It's a worry. Not sure about Bonne but at least he can definitely head a ball. Dykes doesn't score headers either. And Kelman has looked way way short of good enough so far.
