**Coventry Match Thread** on 22:07 - Sep 18 by Hunterhoop | He’s not exactly manhandling him. Barbet has got to be more physical there. Watch the set pieces again. Before it’s taken at the edge of the box it is Barbet’s man that scored, not Dykes. It looks like it’s Dykes at the end, but we set up with our men ball side nearer the corner taker. Small shove and it’s a free header. This is professional football. It’s a contact sport. Barbet has to grow a pair and be stronger. |
Think you are wrong there Tom.. The shenanigans before the corner showed that Dykes tried to get to McF but was pushed out the way (which was the Cov plan) and another one stepped in between Dykes and McF. Barbet was closest at the end as he had to leave his man to get on to Dykes' man, who was free. But don't worry, some geniuses on here have worked out that it was all Lumley's fault, so Dykes (or Barbet) were never at fault!

**Coventry Match Thread** on 22:57 - Sep 18 by Rangersw12 | We haven't been able to defend for years under lot of different managers No other manager would do any better that's for sure |
We had similar manager in Chris Ramsey who couldn’t coach a defence to save his life and then bought in warnock , four games later we keep four clean sheets , there are managers out there who do actually work on this on the training ground
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Warnock put 9 players behind the ball and didn't even play a striker for a couple of games anyone can get clean sheets that way We've played two league games and had 1 clean sheet we also have a new CB who needs time to adapt to the Championship and a raw RB still learning [Post edited 19 Sep 2020 8:38]

Whilst I want Rangers to win every single game, I think that defeat actually does us a favour after the euphoria of the Forest game. It sends a very clear message to the players, the manager and the board that we are a long way from the being the finished article. I am not just talking about defending, I am talking about creating chances too. If we had missed a hatful of great chances and still defended as atrociously as we did last night, that would fit the Warburton mantra and be different to the poor going forward, poor defensively but we sometimes did some nice passing scenario we witnessed last night. Sigh...

There’s more to defending than putting 9 men behind a ball , top coaches work on their defence ours doesn’t How many games last season did we concede stupid goals , how many times did our keeper fumble one in , how many goals do we concede from corners, how many times do we concede straight from scoring ourselves , how many times do we concede before half time and ten minutes into the second half , it’s Groundhog Day , you cannot keep doing it , check the second goal out which they scored , 4 players couldn’t tackle the Coventry right back , I’ve seen better in under 11 games on a Sunday Plymouth & Coventry have stuck three past us I would say that’s a massive cause for concern

I would rather watch a team who tries to play football. and attack than turgid defensive long ball stuff like Warnock I mean have you watched Boro recently The majority of goals were down to individual errors which can't be blamed on the manager and of course they work on the defence its stupid to think they don't Corners are unforgivable though and clearly a problem but I also think the keeper should be coming for the ball more which would then take pressure off the defence We also played some of the best football for years last season and scored some cracking goals but that seems to be forgotten about. I seem remember loads on here predicting relegation this season so if that's the case why you all wetting the bed and wanting another change of manager when you predicted this would happened anyway??

"I would rather watch a team who tries to play football. and attack than turgid defensive long ball stuff like Warnock I mean have you watched Boro recently" I would rather us start with a solid base. Get the defence right and stop shipping goals and then the expansive football hopefully may come But conceding 70+ goals each season is just not going to work forever. So if it meant a season of two of tight football with an aim then I would be happy to have that

Not bed-wetting but I am concerned about the manner of last night’s defeat. Three goals shipped against both Plymouth and Coventry and we were lucky against Forest - they should’ve scored a hatful. Our defence is still a shambles and this problem simply hasn’t been addressed by Warburton. We ship another 76 goals this season and I fear we are down.

It's not one or the other as if we went defensive like under JFH it would be dull and we would still lose games anyway I would rather watch an attacking team playing decent football. We have a young squad who are going to make mistakes and there isn't a manager out there who is suddenly going to make us world beaters either

**Coventry Match Thread** on 11:36 - Sep 19 with 1214 views | MedwayR | The first half we dominated possession but were still frustrating and lacking cohesion. There was a lot of knocking it back and forth across the back line then Barbet or Dickie would try a (usually unsuccessful) long diagonal pass or ball into the channel that would run out of play. We didn't use the midfield much and when it got worked wide Chair would keep on turning back whilst Osay-Samuel would ignore chances to cross to Dykes in favour of turning back to try to beat his man again. Amos was back to his anonymous best, Carroll tried but couldn't get anything going. Coventry figured that we weren't going to be much danger to them so opened up knowing that we don't track runners from midfield so with a more open attacking approach they'd have success. They were right. The goal from the corner was ridiculous, we'd had 2 clear warnings before that and still didn't react. Shambolic all round.

I don’t expect to be world beaters & your right re JFH but you cannot go and keep defending the way we have done, last night was pathetic and this was Coventry who were scared to come out of their 18 yard box for 40 minutes , we also got done by Plymouth who hadn’t played competitive football in 5 months It isn’t good enough and the manager has to take the blame for that
