I don’t know what more can be done at this point.

Wow the government and NHS has finally realised it would be a good idea to have "no covid" hospitals.
It is only 7 months too late, but as they say better late than never.

it's difficult to have a covid free hospital. Any member of staff or utility work could be asymptomatic and bring it into the building. We then have both hospitals with the virus.Just saying!

Obviously those are the hospitals where testing needs to be concentrated, not in the hospitals that have covid patients.
If a patient is found to have covid after admission they should be moved to the covid hospital asap.
This is not rocket science just routine quarantining.

Isnt that what the Nightingale Hospitals were set up for but never used. Most covid cases in Swansea Bay are likely to be in Morriston but it is there most of the specialities and intensive care beds are. The place over near the Bay Campus will have non covid patients. Even in the earlier days most cases were dealt with on a number of wards in Morriston. They closed 4 wards for that purpose. The others were used for non covid patients. Since then they have also turned the outpatients area into wards and are using the upstairs for appointments and blood tests.

It's what they already due in a way.Patients are tested on admission in A & E and then put into a suspected section until confirmation

I know they are starting certain treatments back up in West Wales which is good news, but it’s a delicate balancing act. We have had reported of clusters of Covid deaths (double digit numbers) linked to transmission in hospitals where non Covid patients were infected, Weston Super Mare was one and there was a second in Manchester.

It looks like we are at Level 4 facing the prospect of exponential rises, 4 new lockdowns in Wales and Carmarthenshire which has seen relatively low levels of transmission now up in the 20’s, Merthyr is over 100. Enforcing a partial lockdown will be difficult and it will be interesting to hear what Boris has to say tomorrow.

Indeed he does, but he controls the purse strings for the 4 home nations and I’d wager if they don’t play ball when push comes to shove he’ll turn the money off.

If that is they way the UK acts then we will be better off without them and so would Scotland and Northern Ireland. I dont believe any prime minister would act in that way. Devolution has been voted upon and the UK government has to accept it. Acting in this way will only quicken the break up of the UK and would give the the Scottish independence movement far greater reason for leaving.

For balance regards national finances ....

‘UK government debt has risen above £2 trillion for the first time amid heavy spending to support the economy amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Spending on measures such as the furlough scheme means the debt figure now equals the value of everything the UK produces in a year’ ..

The UK cant afford to be independent .... you know the rest, etc etc ....

He's missing the point entirely, and is wrong.

I know 2 people who have died of Covid. One had a serious pre-existing condition but it was managed and he would have lived for many more years had he not contracted Covid, the other was a nurse who was well enough to work.

I also know a woman currently seriously ill in Morriston hospital, who has a managed health issue, she would not be serioulsy ill if it wasn't for Covid. However if she did unfortuantely die she would be one of the stats he talks about.

And a point no one knows is what are longer term effects. There are a least 60K otherwise healthy people with 'long COVID' greatly impacting on normal life. There are clearly cardiac and neurological sequelae including hugely increased risk of stroke in the ' lower risk'' groups. There are perhaps 8 million people over 70 and a similar number with underlying chronic conditions. Not all are lifestyle related and include genetic and autoimmune disorders like Type 1 diabetes.

As Scotia says these are not all people on death's door already, but include large numbers of people with managed conditions who are working and leading normal or close to normal lives. Paying taxes, contributing to society.

Two more schools have sent year groups home, confirmed cases in Primary schools. If Bojo did announce a national lockdown again, would the devolved governments oppose it? I doubt it because thry have been more cautious than England anyway.

Yes the national debt is 2trillion but this isn't just a UK debt problem, every other country badly hit by Covid will have higher debts as a result. Countries that have avoided a major covid problem ( the few ) will have other economic problems because of a lack of trade. This is a worldwide issue and the fallout will be incredible.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

This one overwhelmed the immune system more so than many others. It has killed healthy medical staff. The flu for example, doesn't do that

Most people die with COVID as a consequence of over-stimulation of immunity-through a massive inflammatory response or cytokine storm. The reasons why are as yet unclear. Flu can kill healthy people too.

Yes It was only 100 years ago or so that flu killed 5% of the worlds population. People seriously underestimate it and confuse it with a basic cold.

Medical experts were asked if it was time to ease the lockdown:
Allergists were in favour of scratching it, but Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.
Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but Neurologists thought the government had a lot of nerve.
Obstetricians felt certain everyone was labouring under a misconception, while Ophthalmologists considered the idea short-sighted.
Many Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while Paediatricians said, "Oh, grow up!"
Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while Radiologists could see right through it.
Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing and pharmacists claimed it would be a bitter pill to swallow.
Plastic Surgeons opined that this proposal would "put a whole new face on the matter."
Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea.
Anaesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and those lofty Cardiologists didn’t have the heart to say no.
In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the arseholes.
