Marcus Rashford on 15:17 - Jun 16 by Kerouac | Yeah, what a wild claim, talking to somebody at a supermarket. Based on what has happened so far the government were probably going to roll out school dinners all summer anyway. Nobody needed a millionaire footballer's intervention...but every time a policy like that is enacted you think about that lady in that supermarket. Ask yourself what does she think about it. |
No they weren’t. Johnson specifically said so just (hold on while I check) yesterday. Wales announced several days ago they were going to. The decision of the government over a policy that is only for England will have absolutely no affect on the imaginary lady in a Welsh supermarket.

Have you already changed tack to ‘dinner ladies who also work in supermarkets are more important than hot water and keeping kids fed’?

every time you think of something that might make our tiny island a bit better ask yourself this, "How would an imaginary woman in a supermarket spin this in a way that conveniently reaffirms Kerouacs beliefs?"

You really do yourself a disservice. When is the penny going to drop, just because politics hasn't gone your way lately it doesn't mean half the country is racist and you really don't have the right to call people you know nothing about a racist. Try it in your personal life and see what happens to you

Not on the basis of what the clown-in-chief and ministers said both last night and this morning. Marcus has done a great job fronting this campaign. Malnutrition does not just mean starvation, but also lack of specific macro or micronutrients in the diet. Sadly vouchers may not help if just spent on foods of low nutritional value, but at least provided meals do fulfil all these needs [Post edited 16 Jun 2020 15:30]

The next time we have an election you can always comfort yourself by pretending all those voters are "imaginary". A lot of these "imaginary" people about, 500,000 "imaginary" people signed a petition this week I should imagine

To be fair I don't think it's race related. However, Twitter is Gammontastic at the moment. The same folks who were bursting a blood vessel over money being sent abroad for foreign aid/the EU/the RNLI etc. as we should be spending money on 'our own', are now incandescent at 15 quid a week too feed a child in poverty.

Perhaps we should deliver meals to everybody to ensure every citizen has the right amount of daily nutrients? Or we could demand that individuals take responsibility to feed themselves and their children. In effect, you are saying, that the dinner lady I met at the supermarket has to work harder and take risks with her own health (and her wider family's health)...risks that I am quite sure most posting in favour have not been prepared to take themselves...because grown adults in this country cannot be trusted to prepare their own meals. How has the education system that you work for managed to produce grown adults who cannot be trusted to prepare a meal?

These vouchers are to use for cash for the indgredients ......it is not about peoples ability to cook! There are some families who cannot always pay for more than one meal per day per person in the household...that is what thsi is about

Jesus Christ the 'let's pretend' bit is tiring. The voters who voted out of the EU and voted in an 80 strong Tory majority to circumvent the people you were cheering on in their attempt at ignoring them. Those "imaginary" voters. There is rather a large petition going around signed by people who are not having the desecration of our history and culture from here on in. The "imaginary" silent majority. Oh right. So the dinner lady who works in a supermarket is a Tory voter is she? She told you that as well? And is anti EU? You really did waste a hell of a lot of her time didn’t you. And I had no idea there was a petition going round. First I’ve heard of it. What’s it for and how many have signed it?

So children are not allowed a safety net? The worst scenario is that some poor six year old kid will not get fed properly as a consequence of feckless adults. This is the point. Write off a six year old because his parents are addicts/suffering from mental health issues/been made redundant/trying their best on zero hours contracts. Austerity has done much harm in this country. I don't see it now looking out of window onto my nice private housing estate, but I know I can nip in the car and find poverty and real struggles in a few minutes in Wirral, Chester, Deeside or Wrexham. This is why we are supposed to be civilised, have society not to let that six year old on free school meals fall down the cracks. Those free school meals were great for me. Meant we could have heating on occasionally. These are unprecedented times. The cost is less then Rees-Mogg's company profits (without any payable tax) over the last three years. A time in which I have about £50K in tax. Would rather than be £52K tax if it gave kids a fair opportunity.
Marcus Rashford on 15:57 - Jun 16 with 1362 views | Treforys_Jack | Can't be arsed to go through the whole thread, but I have direct experience of school meals and children's nutrition etc. It is absolutely heartbreaking how some children do not have a single meal a day, UNLESS they get it through the schools. The inability of parents to prepare food for their children is a national disgrace and embarrassment. They have breakfast and lunch at the school, and some don't eat again until the following days breakfast. Shocking and upsetting.

Lets not forget there's going to be a lot more kids needing that safety net over the next few months because their feckless parents lost their jobs in an economy that shrank by 1/5 in a month. Let em starve I say.
