One more drink your sailing away ... 10:25 - Jun 4 with 10918 viewsDiscodroids

During Lockdown, i've noticed my alcohol intake  rise,  and perhaps for two days of the  week,  waking up with my head feeling like a smeg 800 watt dough beater and suffering   Promtheus Plume reflux.

Being Autobahn Straight and true, i've been on 45-50 units a week, drinking 5 days a week, up from around 30 units over 3 drinking days a week, pre lockdown. Thus i'm currently over 3 times higher than The Chief Medical Officers guidlines of 14 units per week.

It's still less units than my pointless  existence as a Lloyds of London pin stripe shocktrooper in the 90's and noughties, but still Reckless for a 52 year old bloke with the internal organs of William Burroughs, Although i can't imagine Burroughs began his Dirty booze ulysses odyssey like me, In the Golden Fleece Manor park in 1983 with a pint of Double Diamond.

I found myself more or less in the same mould as Adrian Chiles in his Booze doc, 'Drinkers like me'.

Friday, Saturday,Sunday and then whatever booze is left on monday(if any). Dont drink the other days.
I've had a fairly rocky relationship with alcohol over the years. I do have to make a conscious decision not to drink in the evenings during the week. As im writing this im thinking shall a pop to my my local Co Op and grab a couple of bottles. I wont, as my heartburn is telling me otherwise today. Jeez i sound old!..(and an alcoholic!) lol
Im like a crackhead with alcohol though. If i have just one pint i just want more. Its a dangerous line i walk really but i dont let it effect my family life too much or my work and besides my missus tows the line well.. lol. I never bulk buy put it that way.
I drink from home mostly these days anyway so the lockdown hasnt really changed anything too much. I dont cane it anymore and never get really drunk. I just like the nice warm fuzzy logic. And the taste.

Cheers

Almost word for word, mate.

Try not to drink in the week, but fail quite a lot.

The only thing that stops me is justifying the expense when the kids need/want whatever.

If I was rich, i'd be dead, i reckon.

Back in the day, if the cash flow stopped so did the intake. Probably kept me alive tbh. These days of trying to be a responsible adult/parent does keep me from not pissing it all up the wall. My irresponsible spending goes on vinyl instead..lol.

Can’t wait for the pubs to re-open so I can cut down on my drinking.

One thing I'd say about all of this is no point being too hard on yourself for smashing it a bit under these fcuked up circumstances. Can't go anywhere so sometimes it's best just to check out from reality with a glass or 7.

Saying that I've been mainly keeping it to moderate drinking 3 nights a week or so with no particular pattern of what days tbh. Have found an incentive not to get too truncheoned in that the anxiety and flatness doesn't help the next day. Still weighing up tonight's impending life choices mind you... :)

Did someone mention "glorified rubber band"?

This starts strange, and takes a strange turn. I think this could be the look to take Snooker back to its glory years.

I'm probably also at 3 nights a week and trying not to get too carried away having lost a bit of weight over lockdown - down to 82kg and trying to hit the magic 80kg number. Also helps that Mrs Chef barely drinks. Much easier to get carried away if the other half indulges with you.

Maybe a Lowenbrau with dinner and then a wee dram or two later in the evening. I admit I had to bite the bullet last week and refresh my bottle of Lagavulin 16. Plus a nice Arran cask finish to keep that company on the journey to my front door. Nice.

I've been drinking every day too, trying to keep it light during the weekdays but not always succeeding. There is nothing else to do! So I don’t feel too bad about it

I’ve been drinking a lot of whiskey sours, ice, lemon, bourbon, egg white and telling myself they must be one of the healthiest drinks due to the vitamin C and protein. Not 100% on the logic of this but they are bloody delicious
I love the DIPA’s too but 2 or 3 of them is enough to make next day too painful, but its Friday so I’m just off out to buy some!

Also thanks for the Drug store cowboy shout — I had no idea Burroughs was ever in a film

This is the post that most resonates with me. Alcohol can be fun and evil in equal measures.

For that reason alone I would and did choose a smoke and I'm not talking 20 B&H!

I've not partaken of any spirits in Lockdown or Beerwulf beers.

I have re-discovered my taste for red wine though.

Now look here. If I’ve told you once I’ve told you .. well more than once. Get on line and order your beer from Thornbridge Brewery. Great beer for everyone. Low alcohol to 7.4% . Free delivery for orders over £30 and they’re giving a 15% discount until the pubs re-open. You can’t say fairer than that.

For a single malt I recommend Glenlivet “Nadura” . Cask strength ☠️

Scientific research shows you can either benefit from or be badly affected by red wine. Who knows? I keep it modest and I manage to stay reasonably fit and agile and just over 70kg.

nothing comes cheap with an LP12, mine's last service was more than the cars!

so today started with a couple of glasses of win at girlfriend's with lunch; when I got home had a nice bottle of IPA with some snacks, then popped in to return a cap a neighbour had left at mine & 3 bottles of peroni later i got home and had a cup of tea & bar of chocolate to deal with my other fix

midweek i try and o out on the bike 2-3 times and that means only 2 bottles of beer tops when I've finished
