Shoot, dandy, beano. on 09:00 - Jun 3 with 3344 views | Mick_S | The Beano, for me. But this was the all time favourite as I was into Hammer Horror films: I also remember the unusually small war comics. When Japanese soldiers were hurt they would shout "Aieee" in their speech bubble. Don't know what that was all about.

'Bill Savage' the boot cut wrangler jeaned south london lorry driver with a Tony Lambrianou Sawn Off shooter who took on the Invading 'Volgans' was my favourite. 'Harlem Heroes', 'Flesh' and 'Thargs future shocks' were great too. 'Strontium Dog' a bit later was ace face too. [Post edited 3 Jun 2020 9:36]

Shoot, dandy, beano. on 09:43 - Jun 3 with 3257 views | daveB | Beano was the standard, still love that now and get it for my son. Used to have these comic strip football books as well, some were about coming from nowhere to be a hero others about managers, kit men loads of different stories, absolutely loved them. Also got Shoot and match, in the pull out they had results, mini reports and teams from every game. I used to change the teams so QPR would be Liverpool usually and each team were allocated a different side so I would hold the alternative universe league sitting down working out all the results so say this week Liverpool beat West Ham 3-1 with Rush getting a hat trick so in my world that means QPR beat Ipswich 3-1 with Bannister getting a hat trick. I'd then re create the games either in my bedroom or down the park. Sad and pathetic I know but we didn't have playstations in the 80's.

Now I'm 54 and the parents told me the truth and they still get me the Christmas Annual each year. Dug around a bit on Ebay and now have one for each year of birth since 1966. Trying to pursuade the wife to allow me to display them 😂😂

That Aieee thing was weird. What did our boys scream when they died, or did they just accept it with the old stiff upper lip? Those mags gave me a great start in German, "Hande hoch", "Englander Pigdogs" and "For You Ze Vor is Finished". Having an older brother, we were suckers for the two in one mags, though I always had to like the one in the middle. I was a Chip-ite, not a Whizzer, preferred Roar to Score, Jimmy of City to Jack of United. Ha! Up yours, Jack
