Government votes to reduce food standards on 15:35 - May 27 by londonlisa2001 | The EU stopped the worst excesses of an extreme right wing government. They also stopped (or actually that’s not even true - made a lot more difficult) the worst excesses of an extreme left wing government. Hence the lexit argument. But the political makeup of this country meant the former was always far more likely. Which is now what we are all stuck with as a result. |
Our last two General Elections provided a clear choice for the U.K. electorate which would have provided same food standards and employment rights (well on the second point probably much better) but the people didn’t want it. If you’re saying a Labour government wouldn’t have tried to get the best Brexit deal possible therefore protecting food standards, employment rights and preventing a post Brexit economic catastrophe then I really do thing your wrong Lis, with the greatest of respect.

Setting aside the policy choice, Brynny, the problem was always Corbyn. The Brexit "policy" (loose use of the term) was his policy, he was the leader. Good local MP but as history will show, useless leader.

Unfortunately Labour were hopeless at explaining the threats to food standards and employment rights of leaving the EU. The leader blatantly couldn’t bring himself to promote that message. [Post edited 30 May 2020 19:58]

It didn't help much when Thornberry was on QT and said Labour would get a better Brexit deal then she clearly said she would campaign against it, and she wasn't alone, Starmer sid he'd campaign to remain too. It had many people scratching their heads and not believing Labour could get a better deal because their hearts were in remain. Corbyn didn't want to take a position one way or the other besides offering another referendum. He's still got splinters from that fence sitting. From my point of view, as someone who distrusts the majority of politicians whatever their party, we were damned whoever we voted for. A didvided Labour party with a useless leader or a useless Tory party with a selfish, egotistical, narcissistic, proven liar as leader. Both of them backed up by political detritus. And then Warwick called me names for saying I would spoli my ballot because none of them were worth voting for! PS, would you like to specify what you think Carney got right? I think I called you a sanctimonious twà t for deliberately spoiling your ballot paper. It’s not big or clever; just don’t vote if none of them deserve it. Spoiled ballot papers are usually the preserve of fûckwits who struggle to put one X in a box.

Nonsense. I’ve done it a few times and I’m quite capable of putting an X in a box and even making a conscious choice about which box to put it in. Spoiled papers have to be counted, simply not bothering to vote implies apathy or disinterest. Neither of those applied to me and I’m sure not to Catts when I spoiled a ballot paper.

Not according to Labours largest donor et al ‘Perhaps the final straw was at the Labour conference, where that massively pro EU ‘razor sharp’ brained ‘state school’ educated ;) barrister deviated from his speech, and spoke of putting remain back on the agenda in another ballot. In fact wasn’t he directly blamed for Labours loss by significant figures within the party?’ Perhaps those that supported Sir Keir foisting his off the cuff policy decision on the party at conference, were a very different mindset from the traditional Labour supporters that deserted them in droves.

He was the leader. He made that choice. And give over with the State School thing. It really is tedious and you genuinely are better than that.

Warwick is predictable like that though, it doesn't upset me, it makes me laugh actually. Sanctimonious - making a show of being morally superior to other people. Warwick regularly insults people just for their spelling, regularly insults people's opinions as if his is superior, not that he very often posts an opinion he just insults others. He is sanctimonious enough for both of us.

No it was foisted on him at conference by Sir Keir in a deviation from his printed speech. Sir Keir is an ardent remainder as are his shadow cabinet. Why do you think McCluskey et al blamed Sir Keir Actually I was just quoting from my previous post as you did not seem to pick those issues up. If you want the state school bit cut out, ask Sir Keir to stop keep repeating it. Even though he travelled 10 miles to attended a partially autonomous school. Which (based on his age) after his second year became fully private, giving him all the advantages of a private education. But presumably still funded by the state. I find it interesting that he stresses the strong socialist nature of his family. Yet they chose to send their child to a semi autonomous Grammar school, soon to become independent. When socialist policy was depriving the majority of ordinary children the opportunity of even a state Grammar school education. I find his repeated stressing of his state school education disingenuous.
