We still have Rathbone, Camps, Henderson, Morley who some feared may leave in this window. We have Matty Lund back. Ryan Delaney is off the wage bill and we have banked a tidy sum for Luke.

Rumour has it that we missed out on a couple of targets. Those we never had, we will never miss. Lund has strengthened the squad.

On we go.

Probably thinks he's Rochdales greatest ever player, which he is.

3 years is a risk tbf, he's getting on, but I'd hate to see him go. Virtually impossible for us to find a replacement I'd imagine.

three years for hendo is a risk, but less of one than some ofthe other multi year deals we have done in recent years, for both players and managers.

Because it might be a massive gamble as far him being able to last that long, despite his obvious fitness and training regime, at his age.

Perhaps the deal he gets could include other duties. Player/nutritionist/ team fitness consultant/ supplement supplier?

However big his house is, it isn’t anywhere near as big as his agents’ ambition.

Yes, that is a plural apostrophe.

Surely, Hendo is savvy enough and experienced enough to tell his agent what he wants for himself. If he wants to stay at Spotland, he only needs to tell him that and get him to sort something out. Unless our CEO wants him off the books, it should be possible to find an agreeable solution.

If he leaves here as our GOAT, 'for a few dollars more' it may take the shine off a hard-earned reputation and tarnish our memory of him.

Agents have a role to play, but that role is not to hawk players around at any cost and to kill reputations. Hendo was going nowhere when he pitched up here. He should remember that.

Whilst I guess we don’t know what the real position is with hendo, this board is a concern when it comes to investing money on the team and it’s ultimately what happens on the pitch that is the key to everything else. Whilst he maybe at the veteran stage his record of games played over the 7+ years is phenomenal, can’t be classed as injury prone, the goals record speaks for itself and even today not his best game but he still produced a moment of quality that led to the winner. There is no sign of a decline so we should do as much as we can to get him signed up, and think about just how much it would cost to get someone anywhere near that standard.

It's a real difficult one for the club.

No doubting Hendo's influence over the club and his huge contribution to the club. A time without Hendo is almost unthinkable, but with Hendo being 35 and comfortably our top earner, we need to think about the next step.

If Hendo wants 3 years, comfortably as our highest earner too, that really limits what the club can do with that wage and money not just this summer but the summers of 2021 and 2022 when we ought to be looking to a new future.

It's a tight equation overall and I'm not sure of our overall wage bill this year but I'd guesstimate that Hendo would account for at least 10% of the wage bill for playing staff.

Hendo as a new father will be looking for long term financial security and will know his worth with other clubs.

Ultimately I think we'll end up at a 2 year deal with a contingent 3rd (games played/goals scored).

Do you remember when everyone was happy thay Hill had a 5 year deal? Things change quick in football.

I was also thinking about a two year offer with the option for a third season dependent on a qualifying number of appearances in the second term.
To be honest are the likes of Bolton and Salford going to offer a three year deal? Surely they will be anticipating being in the championship by 2022?
And why more than one agent? Is it an effort to provoke a bidding war?
If so I’m slightly disappointed in Hendo.

I’m going to be a bit controversial & say it’s time to call it a day with Hendo. He’s been a fantastic servant for us but at 34, I’d be looking at our future potential rather than the past. He’s had a good run here & if it’s been rumoured he’s been linked but Bolton then I’d be happy to shake hands & move on.
The club will save around 3k a week & we may as well try to rebuild now rather than be put in an awkward position in say 18 months - 2 years when the lad may well be past it. Hope he breaks all our records, he can leave with a massive send off & the club can look to blood new talent.

A really successful and busy one!

Ian Henderson, at 34, is financially secure. At an age where most professionals are thinking what might be next, he has organised his life in a way that works for him and he will keep on playing for a good number of years yet; perhaps another five years based on hit fitness.

This season will see 7 years at Dale, from a free transfer, and he has returned on every penny that we have paid him. He owes Rochdale nothing.

His agents will be doing what good agents do - maximising his opportunities.

We don't have a plan to replace Hendo nor seem to understand that losing a player who has contributed 35+ games for seven years plus lots of goals.

Our squad in the Summer is likely to get lighter by Hendo and Camps.

Our CEO can express his delight at the wage savings but it will make a weaker League 1 squad weaker and that in a world where it will be 4 down again and not with the perverse relegation circumstances of three different clubs.

We'd do well to offer Hendo a good contract for next season.

Henderson at 37 may well be our second striker, still capable of scoring 8/12 league goals a season but at what cost? Steve Davies was injury prone but his goals were invaluable We need to find a main striker now not a back up to Henderson finding one has been difficult impossible finding two.

I'd say Hendo being 35 is immaterial. The type of player he is he doesn't rely on his speed or pace - he can easily be the player he is now at 37/38. If the club aren't making him a deal he cant refuse then there is something seriously wrong - once he's left that's it - he is irreplaceable so make sure he retires from the game wearing a Dale shirt - whatever it costs there will not be another Hendo.

As much as I do feel the club has been a bit miserly of late, there may be no difference between a deal that "Henderson couldn't refuse" and one that beggars the club.

The term irreplaceable is an interesting one. Taylor, Holt, Lambert,Murray, Dagnell, le fondre, Whitehall, Henderson, Hogan we have been blessed with our knack of finding very effective strikers on the cheap. The optimistic types will take the view another one is just around the corner. The pessimist that we can’t keep pulling rabbits out of a hat.
Hendo may have been gone long ago if Hogan had not appeared on the scene, as he would have scored even more had Hogan not been around.
His loyalty cannot be questioned and he earns really well for the job he does.
My controversial piece is that if we did unearth another real goal scoring talent (Keaton may be) I would love to see Hendo in a deeper / number 10 role. He is such a good footballer I think he would be great there. It’s his finishing ability that got him his name, he is more than that.
I have said before about increasing his role, I mentioned coaching / mentoring the young forwards, may be the best option to get him to resign.
Don’t think it’s a done deal that Camps will walk, BBM really likes him, even is a section of the fans don’t.

I'm not advocating giving Hendo a 5 year contract. Surely Andrew,Lillis,Done and Wilbraham leaving at the end of the season will free up enough funds to offer Hendo a 2 year contract he would be happy with.

They have the money to not be too fussed by having a player on the books that is no longer up to the standard providing he scores the goals in the first and second seasons to get them where they want to be by his third.

I would argue only 2 have to be replaced as both Andrew and Lillis have been more or less invisible to our starting X1 all season. We have Lynch already and hopefully we can persuade Sanchez to stay another season - if not I would advocate another season long loan of a keeper. As for Hendo's wage - I have no idea what he's currently on but I would offer him whatever he is on at the minute + one of the aforementioned players salaries on top. It may be that he's already decided to join Keith over in Bolton though and there is nothing we can do about it.

He isn’t irreplaceable , he was and is a great asset for us, and probably will be for a couple of seasons, but he might not be , he may get injured for example. As mentioned elsewhere his leaving would free up a good chunk to recruit a decent replacement 10 years younger.
