The Official Exeter City Vs Swansea City Pre-Season Match Thread 09:47 - Jul 20 with 13190 viewsjackharris

Exeter City will play Swansea City at St James Park on Saturday,
in the first pre-season friendly to be held at St James Park
for a couple of seasons.

Swansea City: Erwin Mulder; Kyle Naughton, Mike van der Hoorn,
Joe Rodon, Jake Bidwell; George Byers, Matt Grimes (captain);
Nathan Dyer, Bersant Celina, Barrie McKay; Oli McBurnie.

Subs: Kristoffer Nordfeldt, Connor Roberts, Ben Cabango,
Brandon Cooper, Declan John, Jack Evans, Jay Fulton,
Wayne Routledge, Yan Dhanda, Joel Asoro, Borja Baston.

Kick-off for the match is at 3pm and former Exeter City Academy
graduate Matt Grimes is set to come back to his former club,
having had a successful season withChampionship side Swansea
last campaign - picking up four accolades at their end of season awards.

City manager Matt Taylor is pleased to get a pre-season friendly back
at the Park, following the completion of redevelopment work at the
ground, and says it will be a great occasion for the supporters.
“It will be fantastic for our supporters, they've not had a pre-season
game at the Park for a couple of seasons now," he said. "Hopefully
Swansea will bring a strong team and we can make it a competitive game."

Last Time the Two Teams Met
Last time the two sides met in a competitive match was when both teams
were battling for survival at the foot of the Football League in 2003.
The game was late on in the season, on Monday, April 21, and the
Grecians collected all three points at the Vetch Field thanks to a
goal from Sean Devine.

However, it would prove to be a false dawn as, despite winning their
remaining two games of the season - against York City and Southend
United - the Grecians were relegated as Swansea also recorded
back-to-back victories against Rochdale and Hull City to survive
the drop at City's expense.

Very proud to be voted Planet Swans Poster of the Year 2017 by my fellow posters. Especially on a site that nearly had 20 million impressions last year.

Playing in an U23 game today.

To be fair he looked pretty good today, always in space and always looking for the ball and defo the stand out player.

Negatives: We were playing a WPL team, and not a very good one at that.

Banda played ok, Cullen was disappointing and Keiran Evans was abysmal

Without the two very dubious penalties, they don't win. Simples.

Without the change in momentum they don't get any penalties.

Simplistic arguments are for newspaper headlines, surely we can do better on a discussion forum?

We had the momentum for 70+ minutes, and led 0-1 from a very good goal scored from open play. Do you expect us to dominate for 90 minutes? It rarely happens in football, if at all. Of course the home team will have a good spell at some point in a game. Two dodgy penalties turned the game on its head at the death. No need to over complicate it.

I'd love to agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Anyway, back on thread. This is what today's Western Morning Post had to say:

The Grecians went down to a 1-3 pre-season friendly defeat to an impressive Swansea City side. Swansea cruised into a 0-3 lead. The Championship side dominated for large spells, which meant the Grecians spent large chunks of the game chasing the ball. Manager Taylor said, ' We haven't been chasing shadows, but we've been chasing some seriously good players in the first 30 minutes of that game and we just never got control of the ball. Probably because we were so knackered from chasing them! They came at us with pace and purpose that we couldn't quite handle.'

Its just a ride.
