“The Swansea Way” is a myth 13:19 - May 21 with 6673 views | Brad_Bobbly | We played it for what, like, 3 years? I remember us hoofing it long to Trundle at the Vetch. We need to win matches again, not worry about playing like a Barcelona lite.

“The Swansea Way” is a myth on 17:58 - May 21 by Rancid | We didn't give ourselves that name.It was put on us by the media and we rolled with it.It was no myth, we played a certain way and it was different from anybody else and extremely effective. It was copied by several clubs who thought the ' The Swansea Way' was the way forward for them too. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. It was our identification and it felt good and there's nothing wrong in us wanting to go back to it considering we played that way for 6 seasons and it was no flash in the pan. |

“The Swansea Way” is a myth on 17:16 - May 21 by Dr_Winston | Don't go claiming we weren't a Welsh version of Wimbledon under KJ. They don't like that in these parts. |
Going back a few years under Ian Evans he was long ball and we didn't like it and again under Cork perhaps. Was Andy Robinson playing under our long ball Jacket era!! We've certainly had our fair share of target men Alsop , Torpey, Conner and McFarlane but we didn't just lump it for the sake of it. The purest form of long ball i can remember Palace and Pullis in a one all draw at the Lib a constant barrage of long balls truly awful to watch. [Post edited 21 May 2018 19:45]

Ha. Excellent question.

“The Swansea Way” is a myth on 20:06 - May 21 with 1655 views | Jokeren1943 | The outstanding idea with that kind of Swansea football was that we wanted a kind of player like Dyer, Routledge and Britton, small, gifted players, which was leftovers in the PL, Championship and extremely cheap in the La Liga. Very true, copied by Bournemouth and Brighton and until recently Southampton. Us and Southampton stopped doing it, Bournemouth and Brighton have kept it going. The results speak for themselves

“The Swansea Way” is a myth on 20:17 - May 21 with 1634 views | Highjack | The 'Swansea way' was just to try and control the game and have a go at teams no matter how good they were and how poor we were (On paper). Some of the time it worked. Other times it failed and we got absolutely battered. I would do anything to go back to that rather than the 10 men on the edge of the 18 yard box desperately keeping our shape and keeping things tight hoping for a set piece that we might nick a goal from at some point if we're lucky.

“The Swansea Way” is a myth on 14:41 - May 21 by thornabyswan | It's not a myth it's how we got promoted from League 1 and the Championship. Limited budget but we were different to most sides. It also served us well for the first 3 or 4 seasons in the PL. No coincidence we started our downward spiral as the style changed. |
OP states it's a myth then states we played it for three years, I'm confused.

We were certainly more direct than we were once Martinez took over, but as you say, the idea that we were purely route one merchants before is nonsense. Some of the most exciting, goal laden football we've played since 2003 was during our first season back in League One. Bristol City 7-1, Chesterfield 5-1 and 4-0, Walsall 5-2. We scored three goals or more eleven times that campaign in all competitions.

Football should always evolve anyway..if not you get left behind but instead of following the others..find new styles...as long as it excites and brings results I'm happy.

“The Swansea Way” is a myth on 22:01 - May 21 with 1464 views | shenleymun | Presumably nobody remembers the games where some awful team like Everton or Stoke would put someone like Fellaini in the middle to stick his elbows into Leon, Dyer & co, smash the triangles and win easily. Or the games when half the crowd would be shouting Get It into the Box for Gods Sake after the ball had gone back and fore across the pitch half a dozen times. But when it worked it was a joy to watch, and I haven’t had much of that feeling at games for a couple of years now.

“The Swansea Way” is a myth on 15:59 - May 21 by Brad_Bobbly | You’re clueless. Football has evolved. Tiki taka/Swanselona style posession passing sideways and backwards for 90 minutes wouldn’t have worked last season. We haven’t evolved, and tiki taka wouldn’t solve our deep rooted issues. |
Tiki taka/Swanselona style possession passing sideways and backwards took us 1 up and then 2 -1 up against Brum. Had we continued in spite of moronic abuse for passing sideway we'd have seen the game out for 3 points.

When I watch stuff like this it's like a game of chess, out smarting your opponent, whist he trying to stop you. Pity we didn't score there mind.😀
“The Swansea Way” is a myth on 15:19 - Jan 31 with 822 views | DwightYorkeSuperstar | Leroy Lita's goal against Blackburn was the pinnacle of our 'Swansea way' period. Purposeful passing which dragged their players all over the pitch and left a huge gap to exploit down the right. The current attempts to replicate this under Potter is quite frankly woeful. We just pass it sideways whilst the opposition just wait for us to eventually lump it down the wing as we don't have the players and manager capable of training the players to effectively play that way.

We don’t even attempt to play that way under Potter. Quite rightly because we probably don’t have the players for it., We look to counter quickly and in numbers, not drag the opposition all over the pitch until they eventually leave a gap to exploit. It’s not Clement ball and when it comes off we put some decent moves together. It’s pretty naive to assume we’re trying to replicate that Swanselona period though.
