U'sual Champions League - Quarter-finals 22:50 - Mar 14 with 4821 viewswessex_exile

As the dust settles on the UCL Round of 16, and with no extra-time needed for any matches, here are this weeks' results:
Man Utd 1 v 2 Sevilla
Roma 1 v 0 Shakhtar Donetsk
Besiktas 1 v 3 Bayern Munich
Barcelona 3 v 0 Chelsea

Group A
1} TheHappyGooner......2/8......14pts
2} BFG............................1/6......9pts

3} Daniel........................1/4......7pts
TheHapsG was always likely to claim first place, but this was consolidated with his Barca v Chelski spot-on tonight, and two more outcomes, to finish top on 14pts. Mind you, BFG was no slouch this week either, with another 5pts (including the Roma v Shakhtar spot-on) to finish in second place. Remarkably, despite missing six matches, at one moment tonight Daniel was lined up to sneak through with two spot-ons, until Messi scored Barcelona's third against Chelsea.

Group B
1} concordman..........3/8......17pts
2} mfb_cufc...............0/8......8pts

3} burnsieespana......0/6......6pts
The overall performance of this round is Concordman, picking up a massive 3 spot-ons and 8 outcomes to finish comfortably top on 17pts. MFB's impressive 50% outcome hit-rate was enough for second place on 8pts, ahead of Burnsie on 6pts.

Group C
1} thrillseeker..........2/6......12pts
2} gsy163.................1/9......12pts

3} durham_exile......0/7......7pts
With Gsy picking up 3 outcomes this week, it was a real nail-biter at the top, but Thrillseeker claimed first place after getting his Man U result spot-on, to finish on equal on 12pts, but top with 2 spot-ons. Durham did well with another 3 outcomes of his own this week, but the absence of spot-ons cost him.

Group D
1} RSCOSWORTH......2/5......11pts
2} Gate16.................2/4......10pts

3} gerry_us...............0/7......7pts
RS finished top, thanks to the Roma result spot-on and 2 other outcomes, but pressed hard by Gate with his own Besiktas result spot-on and another outcome. Commiserations to Gerry, who did well with 3 outcomes this week, but not enough to move into the top two qualifying slots.

So, with Winner A, Runner-Up B, Winner C, Runner-up D forming Group 1, and Runner-up A, Winner B, Runner-up C and Winner D forming Group 2 of the Quarter-finals, the groups are as follows:

Group 1
TheHappyGooner
mfb_cufc
thrillseeker
Gate16

Group 2
BFG
concordman
gsy163
RSCOSWORTH

Congratulations to the qualifiers, and commiserations to those that leave the competition at this stage. The quarter-final draw is this Friday - more news to follow after that.

Wow - quite a group when you consider it was almost completely by chance, particularly with Gate qualifying as the 13th man following Noah's withdrawal. Still, on current form you all need to worry about concordman.

So the draw is as follows:

TUESDAY 3RD APRIL
Juventus v Real Madrid
Sevilla v Bayern Munich

WEDNESDAY 4TH APRIL
Barcelona v Roma
Liverpool v Manchester City

TUESDAY 10TH APRIL
Manchester City v Liverpool
Roma v Barcelona

WEDNESDAY 11TH APRIL
Bayern Munich v Sevilla
Real Madrid v Juventus

For those who care about these things, the draw does at least guarantee one English club in the semi-finals.

As always, deadline is by kick-off for each match, each competitor can only exact match once with any other member of their group, and results at the end of normal time are the ones that count. Top two from each group go into the hat for the semi-final draw. If a tie-break is required, it will be predicting the attendance at the next U's match, which is currently scheduled to be home to Notts County on Sat April 14th. Post whenever you're ready, and I will bump this nearer the time as a reminder.

Good luck everyone!

You can Gate, but you also have two exact matches with TheHappyGooner - Man City 1 v 1 Liverpool and Roma 0 v 3 Barcelona. They're both 2nd leg matches, so theoretically you have plenty of time to amend either or both, but if MFB nips in with those predictions first, your options might become more limited.

Your RM v Juve was okay as it was at 3-0, so I'll assume you meant change the Roma 0 v 3 Barcelona to 1-3, unless you say otherwise.

U'sual Champions League - Quarter-finals on 22:58 - Apr 4 with 3120 viewswessex_exile

So, the Champions League Quarter-final first legs have finished:
Juventus 0 v 3 Real Madrid
Sevilla 1 v 2 Bayern Munich
Barcelona 4 v 1 Roma
Liverpool 3 v 0 Manchester City

An impartial observer might be forgiven for thinking the semi-finals are therefore going to be contested by Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Liverpool, but I'd imagine t'other four will do their utmost to challenge that assumption in the second legs.

At the halfway stage, the UCL groups are as follows:

Group 1
1} mfb_cufc....................1/3......6pts
2} thrillseeker..................1/2......5pts
=3} Gate16......................0/2......2pts
=3} TheHappyGooner......0/2......2pts
Both MFB and TS get the Sevilla v Bayern Munich spot-on, and likewise the outcomes for the Real Madrid and Barcelona victories, but it is MFB who noses ahead also correctly predicting that Liverpool would beat all-conquering Man City (the only one in the group), to move to the top on 6pts. Gate and THG both pick up 2pts apiece for the Bayern Munich and Barcelona outcomes, but they'll need to score heavily in the second legs to be in contention for the semi-finals.

Group 2
=1} concordman.........0/3......3pts
=1} RSCOSWORTH......0/3......3pts
=3} BFG.......................0/2......2pts
=3} gsy163..................0/2......2pts
This group really couldn't be much closer - Concord and RS find three of the first leg outcomes each, to sit joint top on 3pts each. BFG (Bayern Munich and Barcelona) and Guerno (Real Madrid and also Barcelona) score 2pts each with those victories to keep themselves very much in the race for semi-final qualification.

The second legs start on Tuesday 10th April, and three (MFB, BFG and RS) have yet to make their predictions. A reminder also that the score that counts will be at the end of normal time.

Cheers BFG - Your Man City 2 v 1 Liverpool and Bayern Munich 2 v 0 Sevilla predictions are your 2nd and 3rd exact matches with Concord, so they'll both have to be changed I'm afraid. FYI, bear in mind that Guerno has gone for 2-0 and 1-0 respectively, so if you wanted to change to either of those scores, it can only be just the one.
