I don't think we can afford to take a chance on a player like Robson-Kanu.
He has not proved that he can score consistently at club level. If he went to another club and scored a shed load for a season, yeh let's take a look at him.
Gotta prove it first though.
We desperately need to buy a quality striker!

A mediocre Reading player that scored a goal because the defenders thought Neil Taylor was more of a threat?
Let him go to Hull.
We are a mid table premier league club aspiring to top ten mind. Not some tin pot mid table championship club looking to play the channels. Have people got collective psychosis? (Sadly, I think the club might have).

Edited for accuracy! Thanks OxOsp.

I don't really disagree. However, just to correct some assumptions here. Reading did want him, but he told them he wanted to leave so didn't want to enter negotiations on a new contract. Also, his scoring record isn't great but Reading normally played him as a winger, so it isn't really fair to judge him purely on that.
I wouldn't mind him on the bench. A bit like Ayew, he can cover wing and striker, and is good at being a nuisance, running channels and creating space for better players. Although, Reading fans do accuse him of only turning up for big games, or when a new contract is due!!
We should aim higher. We should focus purely on players who will improve the starting 11, not bench-fodder.

The original question was would we want him in a Swans shirt, not shall we sign him as a striker.
Definitely not a striker for us but to play in the team ?....yes could be useful, maybe he ll click with us better than Reading.
But the main point is he is a free agent atm and will COST US NOTHING apart from his wages to have a punt. We can try before we buy.Zero risk, what's not to like about that..would be worth a trial.
Lots of interest in him after the Euros.

He will cost us nothing... apart from his wages, signing bonus, agents fees etc.
Free deals are anything but. If the player Isn't good enough it still doesn't represent any better value than if we'd have had to pay a few million to a club.

That's a fair answer. It's nothing like what you wrote earlier in the thread mind.
He has assets - he is can be a targetman, would be useful at set pieces in both boxes, can occupy defenders and hold the ball up. Decent option from the bench if we are chasing the game with 10 minutes left and want to go more direct. He is pretty limited ability wise though, all his assets are physical. Don't be fooled into thinking that goal was something he does often.
The big boys probably don't even know he is on a free. He just won't be on their radar.
As an aside, Gomis was a free transfer. He seems to have cost us a few quid.

Bony, backtracking? that can't be right
You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game
No,the reason, simply don't think he's good enough for the PL,we want more goals next season than last, than means either one or two players with good scoring track records at top level, that Robson Kanu hasn't got.

We won't sign 2 quality strikers in one transfer window. We haven't signed one in three years since Bony came, although Gomis had patches.
We will get one if we are lucky, HRK is on a free and a good option.
I wouldn't mind him here, but his only real role would be to lead the line, pester defenders and create chances for someone like Ayew or Routledge running in behind him. Gomis doesn't seem to have the work rate to do this.
I doubt he'd ever be a regular starter if he joined the Swans, but he's good enough to play regularly for a Championship side, so I guess it depends on his ambitions.

Personally,I think he'd fit right in there with his fellow Wales teammates Ash and Neil Taylor.
could work a treat, maybe he just does nt gel with Reading like Siggy did nt with Spurs.

Who knows about being a regular, him, Ayew and Siggy could be a dream team.
If he does come in, no doubt it's because the club/manager have spoke to Ash/Neil about him and his qualities.

Siggy didn't fit at Spurs because they had better players than him, or at least better suited to the way they wanted to play. HRK would have the same problem here. If he didn't, it would be because we have failed spectacularly in the transfer market.

Gylfi got really unlucky in that Bale decided to become a more central player while he was there, and then they signed Eriksen.
He did well for them while he was there, and Spurs fans were sad to see him go. Ironically he would probably suit the way they play these days more than he did the left wing role he was shunted in to at the time.

Yeah. So they had Bale, then Eriksen in his position. If they hadn't he would still be there. He would still have been a great squad player for them then, let alone now.
HRK would be the same here. Good option from the bench but we should be setting our sights higher and prioritising players that are going to make the starting eleven.

We only really play with one out and out striker, so I don't see the need for 3 recognised centre forwards on the books. Even the diamond worked best with a Routledge-type as one of the pairing, and we've got Barrow who is as much striker as winger (and while I don't rate him, other people seem to).
Get one good one and stop buying squad players that chip away at the bank balance and do sod all on a football pitch. Surely we learned that lesson last summer?

God no! One brilliant turn and shot doesn't all of a sudden make a quality player. Granted, he works hard but so did Danny Graham... and Danny wasn't that bad a finisher.
And we sold Danny for £5million
It's just the internet, init.
