What annoyed was the 5/6 police at the other end of the stand who didn't move down to the area where all the problems were.

What exactly is the thinking behind that?

Saw same Scooby, Blades 'fans' rolling on floor on Willbutts Lane wrestling with police over pitch covers, I'd imagine they are ripped ! send the bill to Bramhall lane, saw Blades ' fans' spitting at Dale fans who passed them, disgusting! Close call between them and Milllwall who were the more Neanderthal set of ' supporters'

They might get hurt?
Like the riots a few years ago Police seem to not want to get involved with trouble kicking off anymore - they can just Police by CCTV. Waste of money.

The inbred fans on the left side of the stand were given free reign by a bunch of useless and clueless stewards. The police were the same, what is the point in paying such a high policing bill when all they do is stand around watching it kick off. What happened in the sandy lane with muppets being escorted away IN FRONT of the Dale fans??? Where was the logic in that? There could have been massive problems then.

Maybe we should deduct the cost of new covers from the police bill too! Are they really supposed to stand and watch as a theft is carried out?

Yeah, saw the idiots with the pitch covers. Very childish. Do these people not realise that every time they cause an incident, home or away, it gets logged, and that's how the police decide how many police and stewards they need at each game. Surely if you are a genuine fan, you would rather see the money spent on the players wage budget than on extra policing and stewards so it makes more sense not to cause trouble? It's a shame really as they are a decent side but the small minority of fans let them down.

There were a few SUFC fans (5 or 6 ?) behind the Sandy goal

I wasn't aware of them being there until after PV scored when the stewards got involved and moved them out of the Sandy (I assume they put them in the Willbutts)

Whether they kept quiet until we scored I don't know - no doubt someone in the Sandy nearer to them than me will give the full story

They are the worst set of fans I've ever come across but I won't bore you with details of every incident that led me to that conclusion. Not surprised at all today with their behaviour at Spotland. Nor am I surprised that you turned them over. Chuffed that you have done though.

When we drew with them at Oakwell at the start of December we were rock bottom of the division and 12 points behind them. Funny old game.

Three points off the playoffs with 6th placed Coventry next up at Oakwell this Tuesday. Quite a remarkable and unbelievably mental season this. And who's to say the Dale can't push for that spot either?

Well done today. I always want you to win except when we play each other, but today I wanted you to embarrass them. Turns out you beat them 2-0, ex Wednesday reject scored and wound up their fans, and those fans embarrassed themselves.

And the Dale lads on twitter were great this aft. Great footage of the bellendery amongst that away crowd. They can take your covers, but they can't take any points.

You beautiful game of football.

Got on the tram back to Shaw after the game and a group of young Sheff Utd fans were being loud and gobbing off, didn't mind as they weren't doing much wrong apart from the language but then 6 or 7 Police officers got on and I've never seen a group shut up so fast in my life. Was very funny. Arses fell out completely.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

You can only assume that people from Sheffield aren't all there.

United today, and that time Wednesday fans starting ripping off advert hoardings from the back of Willbutts before incredibly hurling them down onto the heads of their own fans at the front.

I'm sure Whitey can give us a brief explanation of why Sheffield clubs have supporters who are 'not rights'.

And you can throw Rotherham into the mix, more so when they were at Don Valley.

There's a Matchday control room in the corner of the Stadium. In that room there is normally a Matchday commander/stadium manager and the person in charge of communications. When there's a incident, stewards or police can't just leave their positions and attend the incident, they are directed via radio communication as seen fit. Otherwise large sections of the Stadium would be left without stewards.

The Stadium appeared as though it was a police free fixture ( overwhelming majority are) and so it is down to the stewards to deal with any incident, if the incident can't be controlled then as a last resort police reinforcements will be called. The Club would be billed by the Police because they obviously aren't capable of dealing with incidents inside the Stadium by means of stewarding. It's the same scenario at The Etihad and Old Trafford. Incidents inside the Stadium, such as ejecting supporters etc are done by stewards not police.

Often police officers parked in a police van outside in order to deal with incidents before/after the game, will come inside the Stadium once the game kicks off. In the event of a incident that the Stewards can't deal with they can be called as a very last resort. The match commander/ Stadium Manager always wants to avoid that scenario. Otherwise it's obvious the Stewards aren't up to scratch and games require police patrols inside the stadium which cost the Club a lot of money. The Club strive for all games to be Police Free, it's easily attainable and happens at nearly every ground in the country now.

The reason the cops didn't go sprinting down the touch line to the incident with the pitch covers would be because they weren't requested to do so by the Matchday Control Centre, they can't just start leaving their position and over riding communications and at the end of the day the person in charge wants the stewards to deal with the situation (important)

From my vantage point I would say there seemed to be a shortage of stewards or Stadium Security persons who are trained to a higher standard, capable of dealing with what in all fairness started off as something and nothing. It wasn't rival fans rioting, it was idiots messing about with the pitch covers and should have been sorted out well before it escalated.

Dragging the pitch covers out onto the street doesn't constitute a theft neither, unless those responsible intended to permanently deprive the owner ( Football Club), I don't think they intended transporting them back to Sheffield. More like Criminal Damage to the covers I would have thought. I can't comment on incidents after the game, I would have been nearly home.

As I was waiting to go in to the ground, I overheard a steward moaning that they had moved a lot of stewards to other areas. The steward was saying that they usually do the same area and know what they are doing, but as they were all moved round, nobody seemed to know where they should be and who should be doing what. This was backed up by a message coming over the radio asking who was covering the car park and was there any spare stewards on the car park that could be moved somewhere else.

To me as an outsider, it appeared as really badly organised as they moved the stewards, then had to ask the same stewards where they were. Surely if someone has changed things, then there has been an incident which developed because of a lack of stewarding, then surely the person who made the changes has questions to answer about why it all went wrong.

Also, when the stewards were escorting the referee off the pitch, one of them was an assessor. Surely if there's an incident occurring, the assessor should be monitoring that and not escorting the referee off the pitch.

I read on Twitter that a train from Victoria to Wigan had been cancelled due to 'disruptive passengers earlier'. It wouldn't surprise me if that was the scumbags too.

The CCTV inside and around the Stadium is spot on and i would imagine a lot of stuff will be captured as evidence and passed on to the Sheffield Football liason Officer, who should be able to identify most of the culprits.I would imagine some will be getting early morning knocks and probable banning orders.
