Daily Express article U's v Leeds 22:47 - Jan 26 with 1353 views | gerry_us | For those of you who haven't seen it this is a memorable article and well worth a read for OLD and young (relatively) supporters . http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/637819/Exclusive-Ray-Crawford-relives-FA If Ray Crawford is attending the match he should be given the opportunity to give the pre-match talk. And for those of you not around in 1971 Google some of the Leeds players listed in the article to understand what an achievement this was for the U's to beat what was undoubtedly the best team in Europe at the time. They also fielded there strongest team; only Billy Bremner (injured) missed the match. I wonder if Spurs management will now realise that they should not underestimate us, even with the predicament we are in at present. The cup does funny things to teams both big and small.
Daily Express article U's v Leeds on 23:53 - Jan 26 with 1338 views | Leadbelly | Excuse me if I don't get too excited about reliving that game! What a fantastic team Leeds had back then. The current squad isn't a patch on the great Revie side. Perhaps I should try to do a Gordon Ottershaw - Hagerty F, Hagerty R, Tomkins, Noble, Carrick, Robson, Crapper, Dewhurst, McIntyre, Treadmore and Davitt.

Ey-up LB. Have thee got an Arkwright on t'bench. I think the U's would give your current squad a run for their money.

The Us seem to do well against top flight opponents from Yorkshire. I'm sure I read somewhere this week that Col U were the first non league side to knock out a first division opponent in the FA Cup when defeating Huddersfield Town in the 1940s.

That's quite right, LB. Somewhere in my loft I have a scrapbook of newspaper cuttings which my uncle put together during that cup run. There is a gentleman who has a seat in W4 who went to every home match in that cup run, including the following match against (then) Division 2 Bradford City which we on 3-2. He tells me that he went to his first U's match in 1946 - the year I was born.

Always encouraging when someone confirms one of my factoids isn't a figment of my fevered imagination. I'd love to hear what your gentleman of W4 thinks of today's Colchester Utd compared with what he has seen in his time supporting the club. Things have changed out of all recognition in the 20 odd years I've been attending matches so I'm sure he would have some great tales to tell.
