Maya Yoshida's fifth season at St Mary's was unarguably his best, here we take a look at the job he did in difficult circumstances.

Maya is not the captain of Japan, Makoto Hasebe is!

He did captain the Olympic side in 2012 though. Been a great year for him!

I love Yoshi. He's never going to be the best defender we'll ever have, but his attitude is great. He plays where he's asked, sometimes in positions that aren't his favoured spot. He'll sit on the bench and will happily give his all when called on. He rarely gets credit for the good work he does do and gets panned when he puts a foot wrong. I personally think the only difference between him and Fonte was the latter was less susceptible to a lapse in concentration, but was lucky enough to nearly always play with a stronger centre half pairing. I'm glad he got recognition in the awards this year because he's had a good season in tough circumstances.

Sorry! Much prefer the written reports than these TV clips

I love Joshi too, ever since he got the blame for a Nathan Dyer equaliser a few seasons ago at home. He had just been played into an impossible position by a short clearance of Kelvins. This season he has played well largely because his concentration spans are longer.

Can't be bothered too much with the tv reviews, getting lazy in my later years

Next year both Yoshi and Stephens will shine, both seem to be raising their game and loving the extra responsibility.
