Gaston Ramirez Deal Back On ! Monday, 27th Aug 2012 12:32
Press reports in Italy are suggesting that the deal to bring GastonRamirez to outhampton Football Club from Bologna might just be back on.
The deal which looked likely just over a week ago with the player himself commenting on the move faltered with suggestions that Bologna and Saints could not agree terms over the fee or the way in which it was paid, it looks now like those problems have been broached and Ramirez will be joining Saints in the next 24 hours.
The terms of the deal seem to be a fee o 14 million euros to Bologna for 70% of the player, with his former club Penarol still retaining a 30% ownership of him.
In simple terms this means that if Saints were to sell Ramirez on for £10 million then they would only recieve £7 million with Penarol getting the other £3 million, the deal struck with Bologna and obviously Penarol is an expression of faith in the player by the Uruguayan club who seem content to keep their 30% in the belief that his next transfer fee will be far larger, rather than cash in now.
Ramirez joined Bologna from Penarol in 2010 for around about 2.5 million euros and has since made nearly 60 appearances for the club scoring 12 goals, his form at Bologna brought him to the attention of the Uruguay national side and since his first cap two years ago he has won a further eight, also representing his country at the olympics in London this summer, scoring in their 2-1 win over UAE

Nick, I have a feeling that part ownership of a contract is not allowed in this country? I stand to be corrected.

I am only reporting what the press in italy are saying, it could be the translation although 100% grammatically from italian to english may lose something in that translation and that Penarol have a 30% sell on clause which is acceptable

My understanding is that, we will pay Bologna 70% of their portion with the remaining 30% at a later stage. The 30% to Penarol is a separate matter and Saints have already agreed to pay this. Which ever way, I think this will be one hell of a signing. Let's also hope that the tide is turning in our favour in the transfer market and by the end of the week a couple of significant signings will have joined him. But we will still need to remain calm and patient, our complete domination of English football will not happen overnight!!! COYR!

You can't have dual ownership in the EPL, not since the Tevez affair. Most likely that Penario get 30% now and 30% of any sell-on.

Tevez was owned by a 3rd Party - not the same. 3rd party ownership is not allowed in the Prem because only football teams can hold a players registration. Basically his mate owned him..all a bit fishy...but then so are West Ham. (Points deduction? olympic stadium sir trevor booking .grumble.grumble...grumble)

Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league.
