Hull-based referee Mark Brown is the man in the middle when Swindon visit Spotland on Saturday.

Mr Brown is in his first season as a league referee, while this is the first time this season Dale have had a ‘newbie’ appointed to one of their league fixtures this term.

Not a lot can be discovered about Mark, although we have found that he was running the line at Dale’s hilarious 2-1 home defeat of Notts County just short of 12 months ago.

His first league fixture in the middle was Stockport v Wycombe in August and altogether in his debut campaign he has refereed 10 matches, showing 23 yellow cards and one red.

Seven of those matches have been in League Two, but Mark did make a League One appearance in October when refereeing Hartlepool v Peterborough.

He also took charge of the FA Cup first round tie between Rushden & Diamonds and Yeovil.

"First season as a league referee" - and wasn't it a bit obvious. He failed to spot any of the off the ball indcidents including the challenge on Wisey that left him injured, didn't penalise their fouls with a card once when at least 2 of them were cynical, and decided to book Joey T for throwing the ball on the floor in frustration despite having his back to him. Add to that giving free kicks for non events, not signalling what he was giving them for and failing to get anybody to take a throw in within 10 yards of where the ball went out.....you have an overall useless display.
