Madsen
at 06:00 5 Feb 2025

This is what bugs me about Madsen. As you said, every player wants to do well, but he just doesn't look like his heart is into it. He surely must have caught on to the pace of the game here and must have been told plenty of times what is expected of him, but he just doesn't look that interested to me.

I'm not giving up hope, really hope for him (and us) he comes good, but he's pretty much burned up his chances now, so going to be really difficult to get another go.

Weimann should have been booked. After good 1st half, ref downgrading his marks now in 2nd.

Updated the original post with the not insignificant contract extensions of Morgan, Kolli and Chair.

Sutton and Halliday signed for dev squad also, but they won't get a look-in this season.

So in summary:

In:
Edwards - really needed at the time and will probably feature a lot more
Min-Hyeok - important cover for Smyth and maybe even more
Vale, Esquerdinha, O'Brien - not expected to feature for 1st team (yet)

Out:
Santos - if all buy-option rumours are true, excellent business.

Contracts extended:
Chair
Kolli
Morgan
Lloyd

A fairly conservative, but probably sensible, window of activity. Which I guess means we're happy to see out the season with whom we have and expect enough bodies to return to fitness to see us through.

Only one I am disappointed about, is EDB. Would have loved to see him go out on loan. So either we think we need him, or other clubs perhaps don't rate him. Hard one for me to judge.

Do we have details on his current injury? Same injury he had at Hull or something different?

Live footie vs streams/TV

I'd love to go to more live games, but Ajax play the majority of home games on a Sunday afternoon which is a horrible time for me. If you have a season ticket (long waiting list), it is affordable, but otherwise buying tickets on a game-by-game basis is insanely expensive. Pre-covid I paid close to 200 euro for 4 tickets, league game vs ADO Den Haag (who got relegated) also at the top of the stand, ie waaaaay far from the pitch. Total rip-off.

My neighbour has season tickets and occasionally he passes them on, but the Arena where Ajax plays is not my favourite. Stands are too far from the pitch, although the crowd is always up for it there.

Looking forward to my first ever QPR game home next week vs Derby. (I've seen us live once before, away at Newcastle)

Apparently we're in for Boro's Anfernee Dijksteel. Let the RB merry-go-round start.

Dunne off?
at 09:54 3 Feb 2025

If Sheffield really wants him that badly, I don't understand why they are being difficult about an extra million considering the bags of cash they have in parachute payments and loads more surely to come if they make it back to the promised land.

Listening to Wilder's evaluation of the situation, its pretty desperate and they are down to the bare bones, should get Dunne in at all costs.

I'm guessing that got lost in translation and probably should be interpreted as a 40% sell-on fee.

Dunne off?

I share the sentiments, great character doing an excellent job for us at the moment. But we'll survive post Dunne, even more so if 2m transfer fee is true. That's money we can well use. Everyting around the deal makes sense for us and Dunne.

I don't think we can compare this with Hull selling Jarrod Bowen and going down. Different players playing very different roles in the team. Let's see how we manage with what we have now. Who knows, maybe a decent RB replacement is already lined up.

One of two scenarios here would make sense to me:

a) we have an option to buy (I doubt it)

b) he plays a bit-part role standing in for one of our own youths who would also have played a bit-part role, but will be sent on loan now to play a more significant role elsewhere.

And in case of (b), the loan fee receives more or less cancels the loan fee paid.

So in case of (b), we are effectively giving one of our own more game time elsewhere while still having the same cover.

All speculation.

home game vs Derby County

literraly two days after buying our tickets, my son tore his knee ligaments in a football game. We’ll hear later this week, maybe an opp is needed. He’ll most likely be in crutches for a while. Hopefully not a wheelchair. Can we still manage up the stairs and into the seat like that? otherwise I’ll have to contact the club, see if I can get him in a more accessable seat.

Fair enough, but we are both thinking alternatives in case Paal is not available. He has a pretty good availibility record, so chances are Larkeche would be recalled and see minimum action.

Worst case scenario, Ashby wasn’t a train smash at left back, but that ship has now probably sailed.

I would much rather have an in-form Edwards play at the moment than risk (further) injury to one of our own. Send Edwards back completely burned out.

Like Hayden, you never know how well a player settles in here and wants to stay for another loan stint or even permanently.

My thinking would be, with Cook and Morrison now back, Fox would cover LB (although that does lose the attacking threat we have in Paal) or even Saito. In that case, more valuable to have Larkeche get as much minutes as possible so he is ready for a much bigger role in the squad next season.

Ashby injured or hooked?
at 05:47 22 Jan 2025

I understood those substitutions. We were well in control at that point with a 2-goal cushion. I thought this was a great chance for Madsen & Ashby to redeem themselves and be lifted by everyone else playing well around them. I.e. perhaps Marty saw this as an opportunity to kickstart those two. Ashby especially we might need as with JCS out again, there is no backup in the back four. I personally would not want to see Field drop back again out of need.

Madsen is the one I am most disappointed with. Really want him to do well, but he just looks like his heart is not into it.

On the subject of needing a break, you often hear players say in interviews that they are looking forward to the break (like Fox let slip the other day). Almost as if they now also believe themselves this is the way. I don't quite buy into it either. I would think a hard day of training would be just as tough, if not tougher, than an actual game? Physically, at least.

What I would find a drag as player is to tag along on these away trips just to sit on the bench, which many do. Then I would much rather give a player a day off to just be busy with something else if it was a "rotation" selection.
