Surprised not to see one yet so here goes, thread virgin breaking his duck.

Would love to be optimistic but Carrow Rd seems to be like a mirror to a vampire to us. Talking of vampires, hope to see a reaction from that Boxing Day horror show.
2-1 to them.

Field coming off and Morgan getting tired changed the game and allowed Norwich to win the midfield battle

A decent point and something we would have taken before the game .

Was the best player in first half but he runs the most every week so can’t expect him to sustain that level for 90 mins and he’s 18!

It’s a valid point . Not sure about the stats as Smyth does a fair amount of km’s.

But as a midfielder you have to be fit enough to do 90 mins, not just 45.
It’s not a criticism at all as I really like him as a player .

Can’t be too upset there. Once field went off it was the Alamo. Was expecting 3/4-0 so a point undoubtedly a good result.

I know everyone wants a ST on loan, but my word if Cook and Morrison are out for more than 1-2 months we cannot survive with that back 4 every week. Loans needed, yet again, in January.

...and, Norwich would have been hell bent for revenge after our last meeting.

I thought we had a really good first half, but we look shattered after 55 minutes, and I felt they were always going to get one back. Lack of leadership in the game in the end, I think if Field and Smyth were able to stay on we might have seen that out, I suspect Varane may be getting the hairdryer from Dunne and I'm pretty sure Cook would have been giving Nardi both barrels for continuing to pissball from the back in the last 15 minutes. I thought both Ashby and Anderson had good games. Dunne or Nardi MOTM

Not sure you know what you are saying.

Away to a team with only two home defeats so far and our possession stats were 44%, which is hardly an issue
[Post edited 29 Dec 2024 14:38]

Where was that 44% possession though? I only saw the second half, and any possession we had...was in or around our own box. Hope that clears up any confusion.

Watching that I kept thinking of Clive's metaphor for the wide middle of the table, a load of monkeys throwing the same shit around. There really isn't much quality in this league, very few teams to fear. We weren't great, ravaged with injuries, and nearly sneaked away with all three points -- which would admittedly have been a lovely narrative reset after the post-Swansea trepidation at the prospect of another lengthy downward slide. But got to be content with a point, especially without registering a shot on target !

You didn’t see the first half so I would suggest your viewpoint on the game is not very accurate.

It's a game of two halves. First half we were more than a match for them and played well considering the players we had missing. Second half we were always going to be under the cosh and for most of it we defended in numbers and did it pretty well. Sickener to concede late on but we didn't sh#t the bed and concede another. Let's not forget we were bottom of the league and deservedly so just a few weeks ago. The turnaround is testament to the players and the management.

It's interesting how we can see it similarly and differently. I agree with the thrust of that, but thought Andersen contributed little again and Ashby wasn't much better. It isn't just the injuries, but, as you say, our inability, again and again, to play at a professional intensity for 90 minutes, compounded today by, as many have noted, the abysmal game management, which stops with Marti.

The squad's not fit enough, not balanced enough, and not good enough, but we are where we are. Such a shame that, after a decent if largely toothless first half, it turns into a spawny point in the end. I'm sure the post-match message will be that the players are doing all they can, and we fans should suck it up. at the same time, the best of the Warburton era - and even Beale's fleeting reign - feel aeons ago.

I’m not an Ashby fan but I thought he was fine today. Sainz was reasonably quiet and they targeted his side for the first hour or so without much success. With a full squad we probably hold out today but the lack of depth did for us in the end. Andersen was again pony and Madsen not much better. You can’t play in that position and consistently create nothing.

Morgan looks a real player. Tough game to go into again and he looked more than capable. My MOTM of the outfield players.

Anderson made a real difference first half off the ball with his pressing and positioning did nothing spectacular but helped us stay high in their half

Disappointing to drop 2 points so late in the game but given the chances they had and our very limited options a good hard earned point well done rangers..

Pretty pleased. Much better shape and press. Good result from a tough game.

Midfield was never the same once Field went off. Morgan had been great but tired.

Would agree with this too.

It’s a terribly low bar admittedly, but I thought Andersen , without really doing anything spectacular had his most solid 45 mins for us since the Leeds game in May.

Madsen ….not so sure again

Amen to that.
As QPR supporters we should never have a sense if e entitlement, e.g. winning at Norwich..
Decent 1st half. Backs to the wall in 2nd.
Of course, it's frustrating to give away a late equaliser but they had enough chances before that.

Given the players injured/struggling with match fitness, tuck it away and move on.

Personally, I feel getting a point when we, once again, can't hit the target in 97 minutes of football almost makes me want to give it back, especially after a credibly competent and competitive, if not exactly incisive, first half. I'll give the team a bit of credit for its doughtiness just for now, but nul points, once again, for its aesthetics and football intelligence.

Feels to me like this season will play out very much like the last, and I fear I'll have glazed over long before the end of it, if it does.

Got to say, as soon as I saw Madsen preparing to come on I feared the worst. What does this bloke offer? As many others have said, Field going off, followed by Morgan (who were both very good), and then Smyth (who was decent), changed the game. But at least Madsen could have put himself about a bit, tried to tackle someone or something. With both Frey and Saito ineffective, we were clinging on and it really didn't help that Varane played like an idiot. I suppose you could say he's young and inexperienced, but Madsen doesn't even have that excuse.

Nevertheless, that first half performance was encouraging and we'd have all taken a point before the game etc. etc. etc. Bring on the Twotford.

Poll: Who is your player of the season?

Budgies vs Rs Match Thread on 15:21 - Dec 29 with 1711 viewsManinBlack

Such is modern football we conceded 8 minutes from time. Not like the good old days where it would have been a last minute leveller. It would have been worse if Norwich scored the goal in the 96th minute. The frustration is we rarely win at Carrow Road so we were close to doing it but we were lucky with the own goal in first half stoppage time and didn't do enough to merit the win. I am happy enough with the point with that defence.

Swansea have conceded a daft goal against Luton poncing about in defence. It is the scourge of football today playing out from the back and conceding stupid goals. The win over Preston put us above them but two games later we trail them by 3 points. How quickly the table can change so the longer we go without Cook and Morrison is troubling.

Budgies vs Rs Match Thread on 15:29 - Dec 29 with 1591 viewsToast_R

I think the most important thing here is, the bad loss at Swansea hasn't triggered one of those infamous losing streaks, the sort QPR are prone to going into the new year, where we f*ck the FA Cup tie off to rest a few players before going on to lose the next match anyway. The one that's cold, depressing and desperate and only fixed via a quick sort out on deadline day to level the nose dive.
Not this year.

That's happy clapping for me. We weren't destined to be 'under the cosh' for 45 minutes through some kind of algorithmic necessity. In fact, we invited on our own misfortune by operating far too deep, playing our 'football' in suicidally dangerous areas, lacking a single forward player who could keep the ball or make it stick, and being clueless when it came to game management. We got a point, sure, but, overall, it was a lucky one - 3-1 would have been about right if Norwich had had their shooting boots on.

Some may find this too dour, but my point is, injuries or no, I just don't see that our approach away from home is sustainable if we don't want to be sucked back down among the dead/dying men.

But he has been more pony than this, on a Madsen pony scale it seemed sort of mid pony, rather than full shetland.

Agree, basically subbing Field let them in ,but he was risking a red and maybe injury.Fine margins and what are the other midfielders for.

Masterful to get a point with the limited attack and injuries from the management team though
