Very bad start for Russ. Update sacked ** on 20:04 - Dec 16 by swancity | A former manager Russell Martin gets sacked. That’s football and it happens. He’s handled the pressure quite well and of course we all know that big bucks will considerably soften the blow. But some of the childish jealous petty remarks on here are beyond belief. Even comments that bring his partner into it. Remarks about her appearance as well. How incredibly sad and shallow some people are. Get a grip chaps. Football manager loses job. It happens. Why the hatred? |
Fans insulting others gets me going

Very bad start for Russ. on 19:55 - Dec 15 by Andyconky | This would be us if ever promoted. Hopefully with this AND Man City result it will go some way to ending this style of football that is stinking out the game |
Nothing wrong with the style of football. You just need to have players with the skill set and confidence to play it for the division you are playing in. Like any system. With us it was hit and miss. Southampton in the championship had better players than most opponents so were a hit. In the Premier League their defenders get punished for mistakes they could often get away with in the championship. The players capable of playing the way Russ wants to play in the Premier League are probably out of Southampton's budget at the moment. They needed to survive this season any way they could to build that type of squad. As for Man City, no pace in central midfield ; easy to counter attack because of that and no Rodri to cover the cracks. As the cracks are visible to opponents players have lost confidence. Possession with a purpose to probe has become possession for possessions sake and ""without confidence players make poor decisions under pressure, especially pressure of their own making. Poor recruitment has put them in this position. Let Palmer go when he should have been developed as the De Bruyne replacement, bought Phillips as a back up for Rodri and when he didn't work out brought back Gundogan whose legs are gone. Walker is being exposed in ways he hasn't been previously. No real option to Harland after selling Alvarez etc. Potentially a couple of signings can restore solidity and regain confidence. Confidence is a big part of successful teams, I don't think we have it either.

Wow this paragraph below copied grom you sounds so familiar "As for Man City, no pace in central midfield ; easy to counter attack because of that and no Rodri to cover the cracks. As the cracks are visible to opponents players have lost confidence. Possession with a purpose to probe has become possession for possessions sake and ""without confidence players make poor decisions under pressure, especially pressure of their own making." Some times teams run their course players get older some move or on even teams work put how to counter styles of football and adapt. You have to play to the strengths of your players I think our younger players are gaining experience and with a couple of additions the strength of the squad is and will improve.
