Slaying of the Health Exec in New York. 19:10 - Dec 6 with 502 viewsThrasher6

What's really interesting is the reaction to this case. It's become a huge case in the States. Almost surreal about the reaction to healthcare and corporate America...in the fall out.

Looking at the state of healthcare in the USA and how many people can't afford insurance, no wonder some people are happy with this. I bet this guy was absolutely loaded, him and his ilk making tens of millions off peoples misery.

The closest we get to that I suppose is pet insurance who promise the world but use everything they can to not pay out.

In the USA the issue is not just the ability to pay for insurance, but the kind of coverage one gets for what one can afford. So called utilisation review means that claims are assessed for their compliance with the terms of the policy, and may be denied if the insurer is able to find a way out, such as labeling a treatment as experimental. Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs - a type of third party payer that exists alongside old-style insurers) have a particularly bad reputation. United Healthcare operates HMO-style health plans, as well as other types, including PPOs, EPOs, and POS plans (look up definitions on Google if you do not understand). Some of the less comprehensive plans mean you can pay a lot and still be denied treatment. See Michael Moore's film "Sicko".

Even in the wake of Obamacare, this is still something that affects many middle-class Americans.

And the people who design these policies deliberatly put get out clauses into the small print so they can deny paying out, they probably earn a small fortune and make a large fortune for their bosses. All off the back of a sick persons misery.

It truly is a sick world we live in.
