The 'Swansea way' seems to have evolved into a form of slow, tedious, predictable backwards and sideways football that shows no signs of improving. I'm not one for calling for the managers head and believe he does deserve more time but for heavens sake at least try to inject something different into this current system.
Every team we play know we want to dominate possession, most now just let us have the ball and sit deep looking to counter us at pace when we eventually get into the final third. Its just so predictable and means we always have to break down 11 men to score a goal - its not a mystery why we dont score many.
It grates with me when commentators refer to this as the Swansea Way, this is nothing like it. This is slow, passive, predictable and tedious at best and the best we can hope for until something changes is mid table mediocrity at the very best.
The Swansea way had a purpose, it had swagger, it had creative players who actually wanted to attack and cause problems, it had pace, it had excitement - it had all of these things whilst still maintaining the majority of possession.
The Swansea way has eroded into a form of side to side, facing your own goal, walking football. We have to try to evolve the current system & players to build a more effective game plan or we risk losing more fans to boredom.
We have a decent manager IMO and quite a few decent players but it's not producing anything other than good possession and passing stats (of which 90% go backwards or sideways).
Wouldn't it be great to see our wide players actually trying to beat a full back, a few passes over the top into space for the strikers to chase, even a few shots from outside the box - None of this seems to be programmed into the current team so they either aren't capable or the coaching team see no value in this approach?
Something needs to change or we will walk sideways and backwards towards League One with an ever shrinking fan base.

I read about us overachieving with the players we have . I’d say we have enough quality to be top six The players are badly coached What exactly do they do in training ? Why can’t players use both feet, why cannot they pass a ball accurately Why do they not clear dangerous situations
We have two first team centre backs plus one on loan who averages six games a season and looked out of his depth against Wycombe.
We have two strikers. Cullen is our best by a long way.
Plus you were almost certain we were getting relegated before the season started. Now you think we’re top six material?

“ Almost” . Yeah,it’s like a defence mechanism . If we stay up,it’s a relief and a win win Lose the fight and it’s a case of la k of surprise Frankly, not a xxxxis given by my humble self as to what others might opine . I’ve read things on this and the other firum that verge on insanity but I try to keep it tidy. I have no recollection at all of your past posts as it’s all about the now . The Present . And the present is very concerning . If yiu don’t think so,and have faith in the owners and Williams then that’s fine by me
I believe the owners are xxxxxx and Williams utterly incapable of improving our players . Now,if you think he can, then I shall watch your future posts with interest as if Williams has ability as a coach ,then we will improve .
Possession has to have a purpose. Whw I watch the best teams they retain possession and you know with in one or two minutes there will be a serious threat to deal with.
The stats should show possession in opposing half as well as possession in your own half. Against Blackburn passing in their half was terrible. They were far better.
I went to see the u21 at Barry pre season. I was not expecting much but actually I enjoyed the performance which had plenty of movement pace and threat. They were out muscled 3-2 w but it was exciting to watch. Perhaps the Swansea way is in the academy but not the first team. I have watch Anthony Wrights team many times and there was no walking football. Abdullai was perpetual motion and a stand out

It’s really quite obvious or it should bein fact, it is really not worth debating . What it is doing is killing the team and any hope of progression . The way we play is not down to the owners . The way the team is prepared and players sep,o yes is not the doing of Levein. Williams is being protected by decent fans

Why do you never comment on our first team, the players involved and how a match went, praising and criticising when it due. Possibly saying how things could be improved and where in your opinion things are going wrong. You often quote stats and quotes from the media but never venture your opinion, do you actually watch us?

Defence mechanism - good god
So what’s made you think the squad who were almost ‘certain’ to be relegated should be in the top 6?
Williams has improved Cabango, Darling and Cooper this season, but that’s by the by. I’ve said he’s exceeding expectations.
He’s been firefighting and he’s done a very good job of it. We’re mid table having played Vipotnik, Cooper and Peart-Harris up front this season. Every team below us has better options than that as well as credible cover at centre back.
It’s not about improving as much as managing a skeleton squad through a season whilst maintaining a reasonable league position.
When he’s on a level playing field I’ll judge him on things like how good the football is to watch and which players look better than they did last season.

It is not a skeleton squad. You think it is a skeleton squad because the first 11 is not rotated much. It is only a skeleton squad if you discount the back ups who has the disastrous beating by the mighty Wycombe.
McCullougin, Abbey, NToe an On, Pedersen, Wilson remain pretty much unused even as subs .

Of course it’s a skeleton squad. Those players are the reason it’s a skeleton squad. We’ve got absolutely no quality in depth.
Abbey - only seen him once and he was out of his depth against Wycombe. Played 30 games in 4 years. T joe a on - seen a handful of times - looks lost and the worst player on the pitch every time Pedersen - sent to Wednesday because on loan because he wasn’t up to standard here last season - they didn’t play him either. Wilson - I don’t know I only watch the first team but given how weak our striking options are, I’d love to see him given a chance.
As you know, it’s not an eleven man game any more. Virtually every team makes multiple changes around 60/70 minutes and all have better options on their bench than us.
And the first eleven is rotated. Key, Franco, Cooper and Cullen would all be in our ‘cup final’ eleven, none of them started Tuesday.
Williams is managing the weakest squad we’ve had for well over a decade very well in my opinion. It’s only going to get harder as the season goes on.

What you have to realise is that OHL is a serial complainer, he was exactly the same during our promotion season to the Premier League. At that time Dorus De Vries, Mark Gower, Luke Moore and a few others were subject to his constant tongue lashings. Sometime later he turned on Wayne Routledge referring to him at Rotledge, Jonathan de Guzman and Pablo Hernandez were also subject to his complaining.

What you have to realise is that life passes quickly by and holding old scores isn't healthy I have no idea what I commented about years ago and neither should you To be so readily cognisant with posts from ten years ago from any poster should concern you It really is not healthy Roger Matey, you have to reboot

I’ll help you out. If you thought we were ‘almost certain’ to be relegated a few months ago and now we’re mid table, the team are currently exceeding your expectations. As you say, team and results are down to Luke Williams.
As for sympathy because we have insipid owners, it certainly makes his job that much harder. If we had the strongest squad and huge resources and we were still mid table playing boring football, then of course he’d be underachieving.

The owners have invested millions in new shares. Nothing insipid about £26m (source Swnsea independent) . The problem is not investment but how the money has been spent.
People in the club rated players not rated by the manager. It looks as if money was wasted. Manager have not selected club selected players. These players were in the club plan as 2 in the 21-23 year old bracket. These player like Abdullai Govea and Parker need to be welded into a functioning unit.
There are some big successes. Vigoureaoux, Franco, Eom, Tymon, Key. Five good player in since the start of last season. The football is however as boring as it was under Duff.

Which words are you standing by now? ‘Almost certain to be relegated’ or ‘top six potential’? Or do you stand by both sides of the disagreement you had with yourself?
I don’t care about longstanding feuds you have with other posters.

You are, to the best of my knowledge at least, the only remaining poster on here that still sticks up for the owners.
You have recently been advocating selling one of our two under contract centre backs to pay for the other one.
That’s how far we have sunk.

He’s worth a read though . I’ve missed that but about selling one to pay for the other Both should be on long term contracts by now. I’d make one of them captain too, although darling needs to quit the dramatics . we have a solid back three who should be left alone to play out from defence without the skipper taking it off them

Yeah I appreciate things take time. However I don't see where that's coming from. If we did promote or buy another striker nothing will change. Also promote an academy player and they're just coached to play the exact way so nothing changes. There is absolutely no individuality in this team and it is extremely worrying
I’m not disagreeing with you ! LW has had more than enough time to stamp his style on the squad. It is not very exciting to watch - a lot of that is to do with the way that the players are coached. The football is boring, the quality of players, their attributes & skill sets that they have do not suggest to me that they are capable of playing ‘exciting’ football at this level

Actually it's worse than that because neither player is liable to agree a move because they are out of contract at seasons end so will probably see it out and get a bigger payday on a free transfer.
Resloven has previously stated (correctly) but he doesn't seem to understand that we cannot force a player to accept a move from here.

LW has tried to make it more exciting, attack oriented by bringing in numerous wingers. The problem is that the midfield give them no support and the forwards are awful. Eom and Ronald are two of our more successful buys recently. But a midfield of Grimes and Fulton aren't giving any support and Cullen is no striker

We really have reverted to three at the back with Grimes adding to the two CHs but this time with two sets of wing backs , the wingers and full back, out wide for width which is meant to create space but the wingbacks are on top of each other, the only space being created is in the middle of the park but given the position of a good opposition they can get their marking players goalside of ours players which any defensive coach would be happy with. So that is not working, it also means our fullbacks are not in the correct position for marking themselves. Williams has seen that this style of play while getting us up the pitch we are not opening up well organised defensive who end up when needed can exert pressure as we over commit forward with Grimes unable to match the players with pace who attack him in the middle just like we have seen when he is left as one of the last defenders at corners ie susceptible to counter attacks. Grimes should not be the player sitting deep I sure Franco would do a better job. Williams has seen the issues caused by the two sets of wingback and has tried while still.playing three at the back pushing the fullback inside to use the space in the middle but that still leaves Grimes as the deep lying defender, given his lack of pace it doesn't work. Some point with Steve Cooper's tenure we didn't concede many goals similar to now, which helped us get into the play off places but we struggled to get goals again similar to now.and yet under Potter with Grines playing a pivotal role further forward we did score more goals and as someone previously mentioned rarely conceded in open play. For me Grimes has to play further forward especially if we have our backs against the wall, he would be able to relieve pressure when applied by the opposition, Grimes should not be our sitting defensive midfielder.

I see our defensive set up changing constantly throughout games. When we are defending we are 4 at the back with Grimes DM. When we are attacking we are 2 at the back with full backs pushing forward with Grimes DM. When we lose the ball Cabango and Darling split wide and Grimes covers the middle until either the full backs or wingers get back 3 changing to 5. Personally I don't see sn issue with the system because defensively we are very strong.
Regarding attacking. Against Sheffield Wednesday we had 9 shots, more than them. Against Blackburn we had 14 shots, more than them. Against Stoke we had 19 shots, double their number. The problem is not the system it's we are terrible at finishing.
