Back to Eze not being in the England squad. I will always be a fan of him, but he was awful on Saturday against Liverpool.

Every bit as bad as our "creative" players were at Derby!

Eze is 26

Bellingham, Foden, Palmer, Gordon are all younger than him and ahead of him permanently in queue for England places.

Younger players will continue to come through.

Last season he was very decent and was able to link up with Olise but this year Palace are weakened.

He needs a move but if his release clause is £68 million no one is paying that.

I would say because of his age and his inability to break through on the international stage would say his value is £40 to £50 million.

We can't rely on the 20% transfer values to us as I fear, he could be at Palace some time and valuations will be much lower.

As for England, it's think that post has well and truly past. I don't think he will get the opportunities anymore.

He’s got a lot of competition in his positions now for England: he does need to move to a bigger club as I think he will play better when linking with better players. At the moment he is carrying Palace and trying to do too much on his own.

I wonder if not being picked in the England squad will encourage him to move to a bigger club (if given the chance) - agree with Ned that playing with better players will help him rather than trying to carry Palace.

Doesn't help that Crystal Palace have started this season badly and look like they're in for a relegation scrap.

Totally agree. Trouble is he wasnt a permanent fixture for Southgate and hasnt played for Carsley as a youth player. Got one game with Carsley to show what he could do and for whatever reason that didnt work in that one game.

What he brings though is completely different from the options that Carsley had today and creates different problems for defenders. A great option from the bench to change things. Fear he wont get another chance with Carsley in charge, but that said I dont see Carsley as being the long term option for England either. Like the idea of the continuity candidate who will progress from U21 to senior manager as he in theory knows most of the players well who he will be using. But that assumes Carsley is sufficiently capable at the next level. Tonight the Greek manager was tactically years ahead and made him look very average.

Never knowingly understood

Eze is a far more gifted and exciting player than Grealish, Gordon or even the deified Foden imo. If he's not given chances for the English team, that says more about its inept management than the player, but of course England has always had a problem with 'flair' players - think Stan, Hoddle, Le Tiss etc. etc.

I love Eze but I also appreciate there is competition in his role

If anyone can explain what Curtis Jones is doing in the squad that would be helpful

I've never seen Foden have a good game for England. Eze should of been the regular in his position in the Euro finals.

Like you I watch very little PL football, so not surprisingly I've not seen Foden have a good game there either, but I guess from all the gush he's not always gash there too.

Agree with every word of this.

Additionally as I may have said on another post, as he doesn’t play for one of the (pass the sickbag) “BIG SIX” he gets little or no coverage, almost as if he doesn’t exist.

F@ck modern football and it’s highly skewed (have you finished with that bag?) “content”…aside from this excellent site of course.

Southgate is the main reason that we have not won a 'big' tournament, his team selections & tactics have been bad and made many schoolboy errors. His record only looks good because of the quality of the opponents we have played and the decent squad that we have.....we should have done better, hence why he has gone (thankfully).

Carsley, who knows yet and is an unknown, but he hasn't played much yet, and as you say, if we don't attack against them teams then we are in right trouble.

Biggest reason we haven't won an international tournament is that there are lots of other good teams, we don't have a right to win anything.

Many accusations can be leveled at Southgate and fairly so. But not winning a big tournament feels like a weird one seeing as we got to a major tournament final and lost on penalties. Two of those kicks go in and he'd be immune from criticism? I dont buy it.

I don't understand how people that say that they never watch Premier league games can say that player A, player B etc is not as good as player C.

Or that player D is useless!

Look I love Eze as much as the next QPR supporter but currently he isn't as good as Bellingham, Foden, or Palmer. It's unfortunate but there's some serious competition in his position.

Good post here its just the times we are in and England have some serious talent right now.
Cannot understand the harsh comments about Foden he is excellent for City and one of the best in Europe at his position but has never really matched it with England yet.
Palmer is also a superstar in the making and taking his chance with both hands after moving from City.Give the kid credit he left the golden goose to make his own way with Chelsea and is killing it.
They both seem a bit more sharper, quicker, more lethal in the box that Eze right now but the talent they have at their clubs contribute greatly to that IMO.
I thought England would hammer Greece with that line up but thats football I guess

Well, your expectations are obviously lower than mine, a lot lower - I expect much better from our squad.

The Italy loss was poor, we should have cleaned them up. The Croatia game was another poor game tactically led by GS. The Spain game (much harder than the previous two mentioned) only came alive after we were loosing, why?? To leave Grealish from the squad, not take a fit LB to the tournament & more is criminal and major errors by GS. He walked apparently but I would suggest that his time was over.

Lets see if he gets a top job - if he was any good then Premier clubs would be 'all over him'. Not seen that yet.

Lot of nails on heads there. However, before we bang the last one in GS' coffin, I'll give him credit for at least getting us there, and being a class act as the manager of the national side.

While we're all human and thus, infallible, the issues you highlight you just don't think a top-top manager would have been felled by.

While I agree we've no divine right to win a tournament because we're England, the Italy game was GS in a nutshell: good enough to get us there, not enough to go beyond, He earned the right to lead us to Qatar, but time should have been called after that, and by him, too.

I'd still thank him over a beer though!

I love Eze, but in International football very very few players get the free role he needs to be effective and gets at Palace. Top of my head…Maradona, Messi, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Baggio, then I’m struggling. Given the lack of time with the players they all have to fit into a tight system. I wish it was different, but I doubt Eze will ever fulfil his potential for England, under any manager.

At what point do the players take a bit of responsibility in these big games, they are not robots playing the behest of the manager. If Kane and Sterling took their chances against Croatia we are 3 up at half time and we had several chances to kill the Italy game off but the manager gets blamed

Foden has been woeful for England for ages and his goal and assists stats show that.
He’s been shoehorned into the team this year at the expense of others and done nothing.
He needs to start showing his club form for England but based on his Euros performances he should not be in the team.
