Interesting one this.
The local council bought the ground in 1986 from the football club when the latter were skint.
When the rugby league club moved across town to ground share in 1998 (after selling their ground to a supermarket) a stadium company was setup to run the stadium and develop it.
Unfortunately this ran out out of cash before the main (or east) stand could be finished off and it was half built for years before the council stepped in, bought out the stadium company and took control again.
What isn’t being mentioned is that, whilst the council are quoting an annual saving of £161k if they sell the stadium, there also is a massive amount of maintenance work to be done which has been neglected over the last few years. Whoever buys it will be responsible for that and it’s hard to calculate how much this will cost. Looking at the rust on the crush barriers at both ends it could be millions.
