Serious question. 14:19 - Oct 3 with 4344 viewsSnipper

Please forgive me if this question sounds very stupid.

I was listening to talksport earlier, and they was on about how best to play against Erling Haaland.
Simon Jordan said that Man Utd were just laying off him.

The thing with trying to stop Haaland is you then have to try to stop Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish etc…….

So here’s my question with my QPR hat on:
Would Danny Maddix, at his absolute best, have been able to play man to man on Haaland?

No not for 90 minutes anyway.

I think his physicality, pace and agility make him impossible to mark out of a game. It will be interesting to see if any defence in the Prem can stop him. I wouldn't be surprised if none can.

I think it’s his movement while being agile and strong that means it’s difficult for any defenders in the world to deal with him.

Bournemouth did
They might have still lost 4-0 but they stopped Haaland scoring somehow

If you designed the perfect striker on a computer it would come out matching Haaland.

Bob Malcolm would have had him in his pocket.

Roy keane was the only footballer alive that could have stopped Haaland, and that was by breaking his dads 3rd leg instead.

I remember Paul Parker marking Gazza out of a game,so much so that Gazza flipped and got sent off for hitting him.
In his prime I reckon Parker would have done a job on Haaland.

That would be Robbie Savage, had everyone in his pocket apparently.

I don't think any of our CB's would have been able to stop Haaland. If the best of the best can't I don't think the best of ours could either.

Simon Jordan - Chairman, referee (See comments about the non sending off) and now he knows how to stop what is currently probably the best forward in club football.

The man's a genius!

Ron Hunt and Tony Hazel would have him all day long and Jim Langley would have put pay to Foden.....
There again I'm a life long QPR supporter so might be a little biased

God, I remember be at that game. Gazza was playing for Newcastle at the time.
In answer to the OP, much as i love Maddix, Parker and Macca, Haaland is a different level of striker that they ever faced. His movement, just 1 or 2 yards either way is exceptional, you can't coach that.

No doubt Haaland will be itching to rectify that anomaly in the return fixture.

Could have been a bad move by Bournemouth to annoy him.

On how the lad is playing right now I doubt he can be stopped so the answer has to be to cut out the service. With the playmakers City have, that's a tough ask. 4 Paulo Maldini's maybe?

Maddix was superb at man to man marking, and was powerful and fast. He'd have a better chance then most, but Haaland is phenomenal.

I agree, Fash the Bash got totally marked out of many games by Paul Parker despite being taller than him. Parker was also faster than Walker.

Paul Parker at CB or Sweeper was world class so, much so, that Pele came to see him play.

Manure and England playing him at RB was a criminal waste of talent. If he had been German they would have built the team around him coming out with the ball.

Macca would have matched him in the air but his second goal Sunday seperates him from every striker on the planet right now .
The pace and skill to slide and reach that lazer cross is just too hard to defend IMO.
Imagine KDB is having serious fun whipping crosses into the box knowing Haaland is going to reach it high or low its amazing to watch.
Like a poster above pointed out you might keep him quiet for a while but there is other world class players pulling the strings and the dam will finally burst.
I for one hope he stays healthy just to see how far he goes this year
