Inflation predicted to hit 18% next year.
Gas and electric bills predicted to go past 5k annually and possibly hit 6k.

Buckle up folks, it's going to be a tough winter unless something is done.

I didn’t mean it to come across like that and apologise. There’s been a number of helpful posts in this thread that expand on the simple points I put across, particularly in relation to reducing expenditure.

I agree it’s not realistic for people to be doing the kinds of jobs you’ve listed into an older age, and there isn’t a direct alternative for them. They will probably have to consider different industries when they can no longer do that role. It’s not nice, and tbh employers should take more responsibility in preparing their staff for moving on when that time comes. If the finances were there for people they of course wouldn’t have to do it, but as finances are getting worse more will. The government will offer some help in this crisis but almost certainly not enough, so anything people can do to help themselves will be worthwhile. My posts are mostly a response to some behaviours I am seeing day to day (not online), people in denial of what’s to come and unprepared to take action now to help themselves for what’s ahead.

That really is a classy post ,Sir

A fine response indeed but if anyone thinks the locks were hard what's facing us now is more than an inconvenience, you mention looking for alternate work , how long do you think it takes to retain someone into a higher grade role even another job which would go some way to nullify the effects of today's conditions , local shop keepers for example and there are many will go to the wall , a lot of small shops locally to me have invested in enlarging the floor space which includes more freezers , any ideas on how they'll be able to keep them running 24/7. It's been quoted even middle income earners will be affected not just the poor buggers at the lower end

If I was Sunak I’d concede now. Most party members will have voted so they’ll have a good idea who has won, and it seems he will lose by a landslide. That way will allow Truss to get her team officially in place and announce what she’s going to do.

I find it staggering that Johnson has been on holiday. He refused to stand away from the job, but has been abroad for the past month.

All three of them could and should have got together and worked out a strategy. We’re lucky, we’ll be ok, but people are desperately worried.

Kate Hoey MP saying people should just wear extra jumpers, Zahawi talking about people cutting back on energy, Johnson saying people in Ukraine are losing their lives, as if this is part of the war effort.

I’ve never had a particular problem with Cameron’s government or even May’s (other than political differences) but these people really don’t care about us. (Applies to all people in the UK)

A Government paralysed by indecision whilst they spend the best part of two months trying to replace themselves doesn't help either.

I suspect that eventually they'll limit the price cap rise and offer the energy companies Government backed loans instead, but energy is key. It's driving every other rise and the bill that's scaring people the most.

Their ideology created this situation. I don’t think they really want to upset the friends they sold out to.

Welcome to global capitalism- for profits most definitely. The people can just “put an extra jumper on and do some star jumps”.

Makes you wonder how pensioners will manage as they won't be able to strike which means they are powerless and vulnerable

I'd like to think the country's political parties could act as if the people they purport to represent mean something to them and form a coalition of the best ideas etc then that may go some way in restoring faith in the political system but they won't without having to relinquish power and money .Johnson being paid to lead but has no interest , we have two previous cabinet members squabbling for power which is just they focus with rest jockeying for new positions when they become available. Now we now exactly what the Great Reset means it doesn't include us

Corby sorry policies would have greatly averted this cost of living catastrophe. Some idiots on here lambasted him and his “far left” agenda. Oh well, sin in haste freeze in leisure.

This isn't a great reset, it's a great rip off.

We are lucky, that lucky coming about having hit hard times 16 years back and ending up in an IVA after both of us lots jobs due to ill health. We fought back, got our health and our finances back into a good place, even the incredible rise in utility prices isn't going to break us, if gas and electricity hit 500 a month we can still just about manage because we can make cuts elsewhere.

If it really comes down to it I'll sell the car and buy a bike, I can still get to work that way. We can stop going to the Swans too. My son can walk to school, just those things would save us 600 a month! That first month buys a good bike!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

We’ve got a lot of employment vacancies at the moment a lot of which are at minimum wage, I can foresee a lot of the people who’ve previously retired having to come out of retirement and those who are already working taking second jobs to make ends meet - assuming the energy cost crisis doesn’t result in the large scale closure/failure businesses.

Yeah, by rolling over for the new Czar of Russia.

My mother was a CND marcher and is a Socialist who believes in Corbyn...She also knows (has stated) that Putin is an authoritarian butcher. Who is the sinner?

There's a lot of people on the far left who have been taking orders from Moscow for so long they can't kick the habit. Corbyn is completely beholden to them still.

These people hate the West so much they will overlook practically any crime committed by the alternatives. Witness the sick f*ckers still marching around with red flags emblazoned with the mugs of Mao and Stalin on them.

If Nazis did that with a Swastika they'd be arrested and rightly so. Communists (or Socialists, or Maoists, or Greens, whatever name they prefer to hide under) are apparently exempt.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.
