Respect the wishes of the majority of Welsh people, who want to remain part of a strong United Kingdom, who wanted to leave the EU. The majority of Welsh people have English as their first language. They are fed up of having Welsh forced on them and being treated as second class citizens in their own country because they have no wish to speak a minority language.

It is no longer a majority though is it? The coffin dodgers who voted out are long gone and the young who are now of voting age want to remain.

Future generations will spit upon you.

Thank you, goodnight and bollocks

Its more than an element. It's endemic admittedly at the moment. You can't compare this to millions of starving people in the world. That's just a silly inclusion. They'd all love to come to an independent Wales too anyway.

You're naming things there that Wales has in itself anyway so not sure what you're trying to get at. If Wales did become independent just like any other foreign student attending English university's, that wouldn't stop. Plus of course we have some pretty good ones ourselves anyway.

You're also naming historic contributions while not mentioning Britain's negative global contributions. Which we all know and we don't need to go into now.

No, I am admittedly a very proud Welshman, but for me patriotism does not trump any possible lack of standard of living for future generations of my family. I am very open to a proper campaign / debate on it to get as much information on it though. Like there was with Brexit....

Although in that one we know one side broke the law in their campaigning and blatently lied.

These are facts. From which I form my opinion (not an agenda) not the other way. As stands on brexit I've been vindicated. To the point they the UK Government has had to create (and pay a large wage) to a minister to find brexit benefits. Shouldn't it be self evident?

I’m naming what the UK has which includes Wales.

Brexit needs to be given time. Please don’t use the old argument of why hasn’t that £350bn been spent on the NHS. It never said it would, it just said it could.

I voted for Brexit but I can tell you this, it was a close run thing. I though I may have reversed my vote if we’d had a second referendum but I can live with myself. Time will tell but the UK government will make it work I guarantee you. Maybe not this one though and I agree that they are doing the union much more harm than good. How an idiot like Johnson is at the helm I do not know. Well I do but I don’t like it.

Listen, we both have strong opinions and neither of us will budge on our own views. I could never vote for an independent Wales (has our discussion included that now?) and I’m sure yours and others’ views on here won’t budge either so the whole thing is a bit moot.

No, it said "let's fund the NHS INSTEAD" meaning it was a promise and a choice. But you're at least admitting then the leave campaign mislead the public with the obvious inference of funding the NHS. So you obviously believe it isn't being used to fund the NHS, so therefore you're also calling the brexit benefits Minister a liar when he said in the HoC last week that the NHS had already received it. They haven't. Obviously.

Why would they need to make it work if it's apparently so great? That sounds more like a salvage mission. And what gives you any confidence that the UK government (especially the current one) would do this? By the time Johnson or one of his cronies are out of office irreparable damage could have been (if it hasn't already). You say call Johnson a clown but he was one of the main faces of the brexit leave campaign! And I think you're inference was that he lied his way into the office of PM. Well there's a familiar pattern emerging here isn't there?

On the independence for Wales, I'm open to it, not yet for it. And yes it has included it now because you've conflated the two, which to me are separate issues. But I'd much prefer Wales to be in the EU. The benefits are obvious.

I always saw it that that money COULD be used rather than WOULD. Evidence would suggest that hasn’t happened I agree but I’m not ready to give up on Brexit. This country is too strong to fail and we will make it work. We are a major world economy don’t forget. How painful that process will be remains to be seen. I also suspect that Brexit may be the first domino. Again, we’ll see.

I am no Johnson supporter believe me and the sooner he is relieved of his position the better. That goes for many of his ilk in the party also. It’s about time Labour found someone to at least keep him honest. He has a free ride at the moment.

Although I’m on the right of centre I will vote for the party best equipped to maintain and improve the status of the UK.

It literally said: "We send the EU £350million per week. Let's find our NHS instead". To suggest it any shape of form was misleading and wrong, but it didn't say, 'we could' or 'we might' or 'we may' give the money the money to NHS. It was a promise and it's been broken. It was a lie all along.

You're not ready to give up on Brexit - that's interesting, presumably then it is dawning on you that promises and claims that were made haven't materialised but you hope they will in future. 'make it work' - if it's that good, it shouldn't need work. What happens if it the UK can't make it work? Why are we talking painful processes? Isn't this meant to be good? What's going to happen at the end of this process? Can you honestly say you think it'll be better than it was before brexit? Seriously!?

The UK has been a major world economy while being part of the world's biggest trading block - the EU. All independent respected projections show the economy will suffer.

Johnson doesn't have a free ride, Starmer and labour and SNP attack him relentlessly. Every week he gets humiliated at PMQs but he's got no shame and nor do the Tory party. Unfortunately it's the British (mainly English) public that are to blame for giving him some a large majority meaning he's now immovable and can lie and even break the law at will until the Tory's grow a conscience and backbone.

Shouldnt this thread now be moved to non football?

I think people actually beleiving we are a "major" player in the owrld economy are basing it on the past.

Our foundations are fairly week and based on the FInanacial sector which is fragile at best.

Unlike many of the G7 we have no state interest in major manufacturing infrastructure or utilities with the Thatcher government selling them all off a long time ago.

I was anti Brexit we no longer are really are true independant nation as since the 1980s we have lost the abilty to control and be self sufficient as we once were....thats the problem..but hey ho the decsion is made...The true "success" of Brexit has yet to be seen the pandemic has masked a lot and wait until everyone starts holidaying again and there are queues and delays at borders ....wait until this governent overturns much of the EU legislation many of us have benefitted from

Johnson needs to go but I am sure he will survive, I am glad I am at the age I am and not beginning my life I fear for the next generations

I see some ambiguity in the message cleverly done so that there is no commitment.

My views on our world strength, whether Brexit will be a success or not and whether Johnson is fit to be PM have all been made. I’m not repeating myself.

What I will repeat is that we will never agree in the main so no point going round in circles.

And yes, this thread has been hijacked (I accept my portion of blame) so should go to the other board.

Studies have shown that the vote in Wales was swayed by English people living here by the way. But there we there were plenty of ridiculously misguided Welsh who did shamefully vote for brexit too.

However do you want to rethink the rest of your post!?

The majority of people are fed up? So who keeps voting in the party's that bring in these so terrible initiatives to encourage the use of the country's native tongue then?

Who keeps voting in labour? At the last election they got 444,000 votes, only around 16% of the registered voters. Over half of the electorate don't bother voting in Senedd elections and that has been true of EVERY Senedd/Assembly election. The turnout for the Senedd election was 46.6, 20 points lower than the turnout for the 2019 GE.

So to answer your question, the minority of registered voters put Labour in power.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/sep/22/english-people-wales-brexit-rese

That's the article. It's more nuanced than just by area. Carmarthenshire was probably swayed by the large agricultural influence (who must since have been regretting it). Constituency wise, West Carmarthenshire is bundled in with South Pembrokeshire and you know what that means. Gwynedd, Ceredigion, Mereionydd, Arfon voted remain which are obviously the most 'Welsh' regions - not the ones you mentioned.

But as I say a lot of Welsh people did vote brexit. Bizarrely the Valleys who benefitted hugely from EU funding which basically will not now be replaced. I saw an interview from a woman on the news from Ebbw Vale. She said "What has the EU ever done for us?" In a thick stereotypical Valleys accent. The camera panned out and she was stood outside a library built using EU funding. Bridgend voted out and now they're losing their car plant. Anglesey voted out and Holyhead port is redundant.

You couldn't make it up. I don't know what people in Wales are expecting to happen next but none of it seems good.

They thought they were voting for change.

Lied to by Johnson, Mogg and Gove - backed by the London right wing press and the compliant BBC.

Remember night after night reports of migrants hanging on lorries ?
Stopped just after the Brexidiot vote.

Labour is an official unionist party and there is no way Labour could afford the loss of the Welsh Labour seats in Westminster.
Yet another untruth that Labour is pro independence.

I doubt that Plaid would want to gain independence from the UK only to surrender independence to the EU.

So that is another untruth.

It may be that UK Lanour is Unionist, but there is now a growing division between Welsh Labour and them and it could well lead to Welsh Labour separating.

There is a large 'Labour for Welsh Independence' movement and 'Yes Cymru' which is multi party.

The idea that only Plaid Cymru.extremists are for independence is long gone.

The behaviour of Johnson and crew in Westminster this past couple of years has convinced more and more that independence is the way forward.

Welsh people are savvy enough to run our own affairs without the input from Westminster and the Lying King
