With the spread of this illness what are the chances of games getting called postponed and the season not being completed.....

What would the financial knock on effect be to lower league clubs.....

My all time favourite Dale player Mr Lyndon Symmonds

The Times is also reporting that pubs will be banned from showing games in pubs because fans are in closer proximity to each other in a pub.

I wonder how that will be policed! , given that going to the pub per se isn’t being stopped

Exactly.

It appears even more irresponsible sensationalism from such a mature source.

This is 10 times more lethal than ‘normal’ flu, I reckon games will be off/behind closed doors v soon
Edit. The Times reporting that once cases top 500 all games will be behind closed doors, with season ticket holders able to watch games on tv/I follow . This could happen from today !

If they decide to play games behind closed doors there needs to be a backlash from fans. Pep Guardiola and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have already said the game is for the fans and they shouldn't be playing behind closed doors. I suspect that will be the general consensus among football people, players and supporters. The EFL's over-the-top PPV platform is awful. They make it as hard as possible to cast to a television and despite having a 500mbps line I find the frame rate to be abysmal making some games unwatchable. I get angry just thinking about iFollow.

It’s not great. I could keep a few feet distance in the sandy , maybe ban away fans and we could all sit 10 seats apart!

One thing's for sure - if matches are going to be played behind closed doors or postponed, fans should be given sufficient notice (i.e. at least 4-5 days) so they're not spending on travel plans and accommodation

If the government were to announce this weekend's fixtures as being affected, that'd be really, really poor. At least give people chance to make informed decisions about attendance

I have to disagree I'm afraid.

I think give people the choice between losing 50 quid on a train ticket / not catching & reducing the risk of spreading COVID-19 then 9/10 people would happily take the loss of money..

Fair enough

But given that decisions have been "delayed" in the opinion of many people, leaving it till a day or two beforehand to cancel would in my opinion be extremely poor from a planning point of view - that's my point

btw, don't be fooled by EllGazzell's overtures - he's just a UK hater

Fully understand your point and absolutely see where you're coming from - if they were going to do it then I agree it should have been done at the beginning of the week rather than closer to the weekend.

People following large clubs usually have to apply for away tickets weeks before a game, if travelling by air/train it is usually better to book well in advance, as it is for hotels I’m not sure it will make much difference when the decision is made, it’s going to be inconvenient . My last away game at Donny, I bought the match and train tickets a week beforehand, so would have still lost out.
If we believe the government is making the right decisions at the right time, I guess we have to suck it up

Pretty sure the whole planning does not even consider football. It's a much bigger picture and is more system engineering based on our healthcare system and the economy as a whole. Managing the situation to be controllable within our resources and secondary having the least effect on the economy as a whole.

It seems to me that those of us who are retired should stay inside and hibernate for a month or so, do our shopping at night and stay away from people we dont know.
If we dont get this virus, the hospitals will be better able to cope with those who have to work and be out and about picking up kids from schools etc.. the younger and fitter you are, the less the risk of serious consequences from the infection, taking 20 or 30% of the population out of the equation by asking them just to stop going out unless absolutely neccessary seems a sensible course of action.

FAO anyone who was planning a visit:

"The Cabinet has banned foreigners from high-risk countries to enter the Czech Republic due to infection with coronavirus, with the exception of those staying temporarily over 90 days or residing in the Czech Republic. Thirteen states were thus identified, including China, South Korea, Iran, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and France. Czech citizens are forbidden to travel to these countries."

What age do you draw the line?

I'm retired, in my early 60s and fitter than many a 20-odd year old. I haven't had cause to visit my GP since the 1990s, I can sprint, walk faster than anyone else i know and go mountain climbing (in fact i'm booked in at the end of March to go with my partner)

And you're recommending that i stay indoors?

Just heard a few youths / early 20's guys laughing about coronavirus, saying just like a bad cold and they would soon get over it, still going to pubs and clubs etc, not bothered at all. Problem is when they visit their parents/grandparents and unwittingly pass it on to them then the worry starts. None of them said they have increased washing of hands etc, just that they didnt think it would effect them. Silly boys !!

No I am advocating you dont socialise and go out shopping at busy times, you can go outside as much as you like as the virus isnt airborne. You may be as fit as a fiddle but exceptions dont disprove the general idea of keeping the most vulnerable indoors and generally out of harms way by removing a large slice of the population from the problem, the medical services will be freed up to deal with younger peoplemwho have problems.

Thanks for your advice, which can safely be ignored

Of course, anyone with underlying health issues should take extra precautions, but such issues are no respecter of age. My advice to you is this: think more carefully before you make suggestions, in particular with regard to grouping people into arbitrary categories

Nicola Sturgeon believes we should now move to the Irish solution by the weekend. No Tranmere game if she gets her way. A difficult decision for the Govt.

My old man suggests that the young should stay away from the footballl and just let the over 60's go. Keep the workers well, and if the older ones get it, well it saves the pension and health service budgets in the long run!!!

And from Monday she has announced that gatherings of 500+ people will be banned in Scotland and that means football and rugby matches. She waited for the Cobra meeting to finish to make the announcement. So is England going to do the same?

Manchester City vs Real Madrid is now postponed. Australian Grand Prix this weekend (Practice starts in about 12 hours) is rumoured to be cancelled. UEFA meeting on Tuesday to discuss delaying the Euros. There's no such thing as a "behind closed doors" football match. All need two sides, coaches, officials, medical staff, press, etc and it soon adds up. There are already players in isolation.

Seems like it’s only a matter of time before the Government is forced to act & ban large gatherings, breaking news is they are considering it asi write this. Bloody Sod’s law with us having 3 home games on the bounce!! The club will need every penny, I can see some others not making it through the next few weeks.

Ha! No, the Lakes (depending on conditions; it can be treacherous on the higher fells up till about May)

The latest announcement suggests that whilst this weekends fixtures will go ahead (one or two exceptions apart) then early next week might see a step change in restrictions on large gatherings - so the Tranmere fixture could either be in doubt or the last one to be played for a while, which would put even more pressure onto it

I could be mistaken, but didn't the Budget make provision to alleviate cashflow issues for businesses during the peak of the outbreak?
