Updated full list. Some very good players here. Of course Portsmouth gets the lions' share, but Southampton is a good second. I imagine that there is little dispute in this list, if we are basing it on facts and not bias.
1- 10 Top Draw Portsmouth : Von Donop : Hampshire’s first ever superstar Soton : Ted Drake : Good scoring rate, right time, right place Portsmouth : Reg Flewin : One of only 6 captains to win post war back to back championships Portsmouth : Peter Harris : Probably the highest ever scoring winger in England. Champion Alton: Jimmy Dickinson : Mr consistency for club and country. Champion Aldershot: Johnny Berry : In terms of trophies, tops the list. Champion Portsmouth : Ray Crawford : Scored the goals to give Ipswich the Championship Farnham : Peter Storey : Probably Hampshire’s hardest footballer, champion and serial winner Greater Portsmouth : Bobby Tambling : In Chelsea’s greatest ever team. Impressive scoring rate Portsmouth : Alex Chamberlain : Only player to win Europe’s highest accolade

So as I said you you are talking bs, he hasn’t yet made 50 top flight appearances. Feel free to put your hand up and admit you are wrong
As per the Mount thread, he has so far made 18 Prem appearances - ironically the same number of Prem appearances that Pompey have made this decade !!
His numbers have been cleverly doctored by 130, with the inclusion of 'top flight' appearances. Mount was loaned to Holland, where he played in their league, but the reality is 18 Prem appearances.
You would have thought 130 would be down the Old Girl, instead of posting on a rival's mongboard. Bit of a commute from Canada though.

Ok, I've changed Mount's appearances to 48, just for Butty. he is a current player of course, so it's difficult to keep up with his ongoing appearances week by week.
But, looking at the current top flight players (including top leagues in the world) we get:
742 Portsmouth 214 Soton 201 Basingstoke 150 Petersfield (notice this is a rounded off figure as the player is current) 90 Netley (notice this is a rounded off figure as the player is current)
It certainly shows that currently Portsmouth is the place to be born to be a top flight player.
If Surman moves on next year, then Soton will be below Basingstoke, Petersfield and Netley. That must be a sobering thought.

20-1 to Butty.
You might want to check your other “FACTS” as I can see another mistake

No there’s another.
I think the main fact that we can garner from these pages is that currently Portsmouth born lads have over 3 times as many top flight games than Soton born or raised lads. That is surprising to be honest. is there no talent around your town at present?

Not as much of a PL legend as Kit Symons from the Greater Portsmouth urban sprawl of Basingstoke
Nobody ever tried to claim Symons, but he is a Hampshire lad. Not a bad footballer, and had over 30 caps for Wales, and only just been overtaken on the PL stakes by Ings from Netley.

Remind me again why Netley isn’t part of the ‘Greater Southampton’ area on your dopey list but towns that are in different counties are considered part of ‘Greater Portsmouth’?

Now you are exaggerating to make your point. Just look at a map of your town, there are gaps between Romsey and Soton, and Netley and Soton. They are not part of the Soton urban sprawl, unlike Bishopstoke and Eastleigh.
Luckily for you Eastleigh is included, otherwise you might not have any local lads playing in the top flight, not even Targett.

Ings seems to think he’s from Southampton, maybe you should send him a strongly worded email and let him know that he’s wrong.

“the abbey ruins made Netley a popular excursion from Southampton”
“Netley Railway Station has hourly services to Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour via the train company South Western Railway, providing links for commuters both in and out of the village”.
It certainly seems that Netley, being a village isn’t part of any city wider urban area.

You not watching your team (again) pal?
Surely a trip to a 'non shed' type ground must be of some appeal?

Ready and waiting to mop up those European places......
While Ings is on fire, it should be noted that if he was a local, he could soon be overtaking Chivers as the all time top flight scoring local Soton lad, and only needs 7 more goals.

So you are now saying Eastleigh is part of Southampton’s urban sprawl so it’s part of Southampton yet many skates refuse to recognise that Southampton has an airport because the airport is in Eastleigh. Next you’ll be telling us that the famous Spitfire has nothing to do with Southampton.

You can't have the biggest Ferry-port in Hampshire, so you may as well have the biggest Airport in Hampshire, even though it is in the wider conurbation area.

Ok, we'll have the biggest international cruise port, the biggest football stadium, the biggest cricket stadium, the biggest airport. Or is just being the biggest City not enough?
