Loft ladder 09:05 - Jan 26 with 4135 views | waynekerr55 | Morning chums, I need to fit a ladder to my loft hatch, however the loft hatch opens into the loft. Would I be correct to assume that I need to change the hatch so that it opens downwards?

My experience is limited to fitting just two. I'd say that changing the direction of the hatch opening is probably easiest. There is just the outside chance, depending on the design of the ladder, to have the hatch swinging upwards one way and the ladder the other way. This will depend on the position of the foot of the ladder when folded in the retracted position. Does it extend into the hatch opening far enough to block the swing of the hatch as that is opened? On the last one I fitted the ladder does retract to near the edge of the opening so it would be a close call as to whether the hatch would clear it. With this model you needed to make a rectangular wooden panel, raised an inch or two above attic floor height, to which the bracket assembly for the ladder was bolted. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Loft ladder on 20:44 - Jan 26 by valleyboy | If I was you I would enlarge the existing trap door to the full width between the rafters and srew new 4”x1” planed timbers to the rafters to make a new opening and carry on from there To fiddle about with an existing trap door, only tnvites more problems than the worth |
Thanks. I'm assuming I'd need a new hatch with a catch and latch, would that make it easier?

Apologies for my shocking sketch, but would it be possible to attach said ladder in the loft (I've got to board the floor anyway) and simply pull it down from it's position?

4 screws into a joist just inside the loft opening it folds up to about 1 cubic foot and when you need it you just unfold it down with a pole. I can try and post some pics up tomorrow or if you PM me your email address I can send them to you? This literally took me 5 minutes to install.

Cheers Nicky I had a look at the Aldi one, I think I can either attach it to the loft frame or move the hatch so it opens the other way 💪👠
