I have dusted down my old toasted sandwich maker and am intent on reliving some old culinary memories.
Can anyone recommend some decent fillings above and beyond my old favourite of plain old cheese and onion ( with HP of course)? |  |

Cheese, ham and Branston (other pickles are available - Tescos and Lidl's versions are just as nice).
Update though on the old diagonal toaster - we used the George Foreman grill - that way you can put paninis, rolls, or subs in, rather than just the boring square bread.
Less messy too as you wipe off with a kitchen roll when cool, thus creating a patina (same as you do with a wok) |  |

Really has to include cheese. A spoon of left over bolognese or chilli with cheddar is a wonderful thing. Got one of the 'panini press' type ones (from Aldi) works well with thicker breads and even the Lancashire Oven Bottom Muffin or Barm.
Chilli jam, red onion , jalapeños and tomatoes (fresh or sun dried) all add a bit of zing too. |
We got the old George Foreman out after seeing one used on holidays.
Works much better than the old Breville - plus you can cook burgers, etc if really inclined ! | |

Love a toastie-maker, it's in my case a kitchen item that I've repeatedly used over and over again... Many use just the once only to place the item into the back of a cupboard never to be seen or used again.
I like broken up/cut pre-cooked bacon mixed with baked beans along with my other recipe broken up/cut pieces of Asda Lewis brand rissoles into a baked bean mix also. [Post edited 11 Mar 2018 19:41]

We've had a toasted sandwich maker for years, to be honest we use it a lot for a while, then put it away for while.
Definitely recommend you get one though, and they're not that expensive, my favorite is cooked bacon, cheese, onion and slice of tomato.

Absolutely and obviously some worcester sauce.
Tried some crazy ones, including fish fingers and chips and donner meat but always cheese tomato and a bit of ham with a good splash of worcester. |  |
