Omnishambles of a season 23:24 - Apr 5 with 4101 viewsAngelRangelQS

It's easy to point the finger at the Bob era but the problems run far deeper than that don't they?

- The takeover not being done and dusted in May/June
- Not replacing Williams
- Signing Baston. In some ways it's quite fitting that his name is likely to be listed as our record signing for quite some time now. All that's gone wrong with our club recently, enshrined in our record books and serving as a reminder for many years to come of the total ineptitude of Huw Jenkins and our recruitment cretins
- Not signing Allen
- Not getting a full back in the summer
- Appointing Guidolin when clearly nobody at the club wanted to appoint him
- Screwing Guidolin over
- Bob and the complete clusterf*ck that was
- Not sacking Bob after the Spurs game
- Not signing a centreback in January
- Not signing a Llorente type striker as back up in January if we were going to be so reliant on that type of game

... and here we are. Relegation looks a near certainty now really.

On a positive note...

- Maybe relegation may mean I can start falling in love with watching the swans again after it has slowly but surely been eroded over the last few years (a few notable highs aside)
- We can hopefully wave goodbye to some of the mercenaries we've acquired
- Our players aren't going to be amongst the worst in the division
- We may win some games
- More midweek football
- For the most part, it was a good ride

it appears that the running of the club became a very distant second to selling the shares.

it isn't down to one season, every year we sold our best and replaced with cheaper, we kept expecting miracles upfront and sold them as soon as they made their mark.
taylor and Williams were not the force once they had the success of the euros so cant blame that. Fernandez still clears in a panic but it isn't down to him. its all the things that weren't addressed, not holding onto managers, holding onto Bradley to long, leaving players go on loan to save money, players only putting in a performance one in every three games, not valuing Leons impact even in his fading years. board grabbing what they could, half the fans quiet when the team need them. but this is mainly down to us over achieving. 14 years ago we nearly went for good, at a time when we had 2500 core fans - mainly on the northbank, but the leaky roof became swing seats and now the place is full of "arsenalites" so if we drop maybe we can shed some of those back to the rugby and man utd. and however bad it looks it can never be that bad - because we looked it in the eye and came through stronger. since then we have had 3 promotions a league cup, glory matches galore but we are not a huge club and the lower leagues are scattered with teams who enjoyed their years in the sun. 4 wins out of 7 needed - don't blame clement he almost got us running, but you cant build sandcastles out of shit, and other than mawson, siggy, llorente, olson, kingsley, im not sure could name another who gives more than 60% consistently, tonight we almost held off but that's our post match review all season and our seasons epitaph, we nearly made it.

Yeah, and that was after selling Joe and ending up with JJS. And then we chose Fer over Joe.

Atrocious for the squad, but excellent business. Sad our owners have only cared about the latter for quite awhile now.

Yeah, but neither Joe or JJS can play right back.

Oh, hang on...

Unforgivable and no need for this debacle

And ,yep, it's worse than in Tosh era , far worse

Too many mediocre knobs have been with us way too long and thei " hard work" is simply a mans of covering their lack of talent

We need a massive clear out and need to find a captain cos we sure ain't got one right now

Not sure I agree with "- Appointing Guidolin when clearly nobody at the club wanted to appoint him".

Maybe 'more accurate would be - choosing to extend Guidolin's instead of appointing Brenda as was looking likely at the time'

Bit of a car crash season so far, and that's just the stuff on the pitch before we het to the sellouts/trust, etc.

BUT we're not down yet. Things can and probably will change very quickly.

We need a massive clear out both on and off the field, but from the online comments posted from the Fans Forum everything in the garden is rosy. If it turns out that we are relegated then the Championship may turn out to be a sight more difficult than our new owners anticipate and, thousands of empty seats may, just may focus minds on who was the cause of the demise.

I'd add not getting a right back in January. It's a joke that we've have to put Fer back there.

Agreed. And there were guys available that we could've brought in, at least on a loan. A glaring weaknesses everyone knew was going to put us in a bad position, and they did nothing about it. I don't even remember any links to RB. The level of incompetence is astounding.

Why? Its because they want to have their cake and eat it.

Jenkins, Dineen and the Clog all make money off the club on top of what theyve already sold out. 4 supposed fans of a club who have sh1t on all the others. Greedy sellouts.

If we lose the next couple of games and are done early, i can imagine it being a bit toxic as people will want to point fingers and blame the culprits of relegation from the PL.

"Michu, Britton and Williams could have won 3-0 on their own. They wouldn't have required a keeper."

Many would have you believe that Garry Monk tweaking our formation set us on a path to self implosion, a line of thinking just as narrow minded as believing Bob Bradley is the sole cause of our demise, but the reality is much more complicated.

However despite the f*ck ups that permeated every layer of the club we could still have avoided this crisis with a handful of careful moves. Having a competent manager in Clement from the start of the season along with a few key players such as Ash, Joe Allen and a decent right-back akin to Olsson, and we'd have been absolutely fine. We've showed signs under Clement of playing our usual possession-orientated style and with the aforementioned players and without the burden of fighting relegation we could have been a very good side.

The sad reality is we spectacularly failed to address so many issues in our squad and completely lost our identity with progressively worse managerial appointments. The delusional Monk, impotent Guidolin and complete f*cking imbecile Bradley whose philosophies, or lack of, have led to a mismatched squad of hopeless mediocrity.

Despite our sustained and painful downfall this season it may still be boiled down to a few bullet points as in the original post. The root of our problems lies with the incompetence and carelessness of the board. It's almost as if they've been distracted by something completely unrelated to footballing matters...

Money. Monk, guidolin, bradley all budget decisions without big assistant teams. Quick payouts and players on high wages. It was coming and hopefully we will survive relegation. The major positive is that moany twots like me will still be around to see us kick the can around the bottom 6 of the division year in year out.
