Naismith on 14:42 - Jan 12 by bt95 | Greetings. Everton fan here. First of all let me say I hope you lot stay up. Seem to have some rotten luck this season but don't think you've helped yourselves to an extent by getting rid of Monk, but I suppose that's a topic for another thread. Nothing from our end on either of these rumours, though I do think it could be believable. However, the original rumour has come from somebody called fact man on twitter - so I'd say take it with a heavy pinch of salt! Naismith would probably be ideal for you in that he really is a 110% player who always crops up with important goals, though Norwich does still seem his most likely outcome from our point of view. They have sold Grabban so are probably likely to complete that move for Naismith sooner rather than later you would think, though there is a possibility we have been delaying it due to late interest from other clubs... As for Gibbo, he would be a very decent replacement for Shelvey I feel. He's a good player if he can string a run of games together. Back in 2012 he was our key player after his arrival from Utd, but suffered a nasty injury and never could then stay in the team long enough to re-find his best form. If he can keep fit then I think he would be a solid player for you. He's in the last 6 months of his deal with us, so a loan move (or even cheap permanent) would suit you I guess. He still has the ability, it's just that he's become 5th choice central midfielder now (well 6th really if you include Barkley who is starting to play deeper at times).# To sum up you could do a lot worse than go for either/both of Naismith and Gibson. Both very experienced players at the highest level and neither would be a huge risk - Gibson's injuries more-so but on a loan/cheap fee then it's kind of irrelevant I suppose. Think both would suit your style of play more than ours at the moment as well. Also, I've noticed some have mentioned on here about Gomis leaving? Is that true and if so where to? He's one of them that looks like he can have all the quality in the world at times but just cannot be consistent enough. |
Thanks. My Evertonian mate just said something very similar.

Naismith on 14:46 - Jan 12 by Oldjack | Why would you get rid of either? ,id love to see Naismith here mind |
It's just down to our needs, to be honest mate. We actually have a big squad - it's just we always have so many injuries that we are threadbare in certain areas, but central midfield isn't one. We need to shift McGeady out definitely, as he's played 45 minutes total this season in the first round of the League Cup and was terrible. Gibson is a weird one. He needs game-time for the Euros and due to our options in midfield just isn't going to get it. He's also on about 40k per-week so would be worth getting off our wage bill since he isn't playing. Naismith is the same - he just ins;t getting game time and he's on a decent wedge. He's a very handy player but deserves first-team football but unfortunately that isn't something we can offer him consistently. He's very good for us in a certain position (second striker)? but that would mean dropping Barkley or playing a different system. He is versatile but his touch and vision just aren't good enough to play out wide. So they're the reasons, really. We vitally need a left winger to complete a very strong first XI on paper, so if we can get £8mil in for Naismith, plus £2/3mil combined for the loan fees of Gibson/McGeady, it will hopefully help us get that. We also need a new keeper, but Bobby doesn't seem to think so :)

8 mill is cheap compared to what he can give us despite his goals he creates his own goals and assists others, pacy strong and gets in the face of defenders, bargain.

Yes Bobby doesn't like keepers, which is why centre half Alan Tate had to go in goal for us.

Naismith on 15:55 - Jan 12 with 3210 views | bt95 | Wasn't meaning to be condescending at all mate. It's just how it is. We're underachieving at the moment but our squad was built for Europe and we need to shift some players. Gibson, though a good player, is not currently forcing his way into the first team picture, and I believe he'd be a good signing for most of the clubs in the league - similarly with Naismith. And yes, Barkley is a terrific talent. I don't think too many would claim him to be the 'best ever' - but he has all the talent to reach the top. As do Stones, Deulofeu and Lukaku.

She looks good upfront aye. BT95 I don't think you're being condescending at all. Your club has riches in midfield, so good players get frozen out. It happens. 3rd or 4th choice players don't even get time in the cups, as the boys in 2nd get the start, in case they're needed We had riches in midfield at one time and good players got overlooked. And no, you're not getting the big Pole or Kris, no matter how much the Tapas waiter begs

I wasn't on about Barkley the Spanish waiter claimed Barry was "one of the best English players ever" http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35247911 You know as well as me that Stones & Lukaka will be gone to a big club soon, so you had better hope your 'squad was built for Europe' makes the Europa league this season.

He wants to be playing games, and will see what happens in the summer with Everton. He also said,he should come on loan to Swansea,so maybe that's why these stories are starting. Not convinced we are in a position to be taking the piss out of Everton at the moment! As for the transfers, I think Naismith would certainly bring something we don't have to the table. Only concern is unless you shoehorn him in up front, he plays the same position as Siggy, albeit he has a different style. Gibson would be OK, but I can't see him being any more than an extra body in our midfield. Decent, but don't think he would really improve the starting eleven.

I am not taking the p1ss you think Stones & Lukaka will be @ Everton next season ? If Naismith plays in the same position as Gylfi I know who I would choose. Gibson I would see nothing more than an extra body (cover for injury only)

No. I think Stones will definitely go. Lukaku will depend on whether he can keep his current run of form up. Not the most consistent. I'd be pretty happy to have a squad built for Europe at the moment though. Or a manager like the Spanish waiter. Agree with you on both players. In that position id rather Gylfi 8 days a week. He is the type of player who would probably work well with Gylfi if played up front, but I'd rather get an actual striker in.
Naismith on 18:35 - Jan 12 with 2393 views | bt95 | Realised that after I had responded haha! Well we all know Bobby is prone to the hyperbole, but in fairness until Barry has played for your club I wouldn't be so quick to judge. Obviously he isn't one of the best, but on levels of consistency and longevity he has to be considered a really good player at the highest level - who has won silverware and represented his country many times. As for Stones/Lukaku, yes, it's likely that if we don't get Europe (and even then there's no guarantee) that one of them will go next summer. Not both though. We're no longer a selling club and have no need to be (just as every other prem team no longer needs to be). And you say I was been condescending? I'm not looking to pick a fight but Everton are a big, big club. No, not up there with United or the mega-rich, but on fanbase, history etc we're still the fourth biggest club in Britain. Sure that boils down to irrelevance to a point, but it's worth noting.
