The austerity marches today highlight that the Cons are are trying to increase the divide between the rich and unable and sick!

We live in scary times!

If I was poor, disabled or unable to get a job I would be very scared right now.

These groups are going to get hammered the next few years by the cuts. The rise in homelessness will go up massively.

I feel so for those people and I agree it is very scary times for all.

IMO unless you have a few million n the Bank then you are classed as poor by this Government which means the sooner more people realise this the sooner people can start resisting .

The one thing that scares any Government is the people organised and putting their foot down, while i don't really like Russell Brand i respect him immensely for at least trying to use his popularity to affect some kind of change and awarness .

Everything that has happened the last 10 yrs and more has been done by design, War,Credit crunch ,Austerity etc, etc.

It's only the people that can change things but as long as we have those comfortable and not willing to sacrifice then we will continue to get shafted, can we change things without going through pain? no .

Does anybody want to go through pain? no. Most people are just trying to put food on the table and bring up their families, successive Governments have made sure this is the only focus for any man/woman from a working class backround and the longer the slow squeeze continues the harder it will get for anyone to stand up to it.

Both Labour and Conservative have contributed equally to the downfall of decent working class people, i hope and prey that people en mass start to say enough is enough but i also understand how hard it will be to do that when most have no job security, union protection, working contracts or savings in the Bank, very many people are2/3 pay checks away from going broke and losing everything, a situation that has been designed over a number of years and different regimes .

Give it two years and we'll all fully realise how much of a moderating influence the LibDems had on the last government. Watch this lot fly now implementing manifesto commitments they never thought they'd have to put into practice.

A friend of my wife was on the anti austerity march. Carrying a Gucci bag. Go figure.

Every party has parasites. Look at the way the Kinnocks milked the EU gravy train.

I just have the feeling people on the march lacked the self awareness to realise Charlotte Church berated having to pay 40% top rate tax previously and has suddenly become a political rabble rouser when she's woken up to the fact her career such as it was is over. Russell Brand? Utter lolworthy.

What exactly is wrong with someone attending an anti austerity protest with an expensive handbag? People with money are allowed to protest on behalf of the poor. Tell me Bluey, do you think that rich people should not be allowed to protest on behalf of the poor? If this lady decides to spend her money on silly expensive handbags she has no right to care or worry for those less fortunate than her?

And as for Charlotte Church you do realise that the right wing press have dragged that comment from a very long time ago. In fact from when she was not allowed to vote because she was a child. Guess what. Someones political views sometimes change from their teens to when they are thirty years old. Thank god.

Do you think everyone should be judged on what they said when they were under the voting age Bluey? Or are are you now desperately looking for another barrel you could try scraping the bottom of?

A women with an expensive handbag cares about poor people and someone now has a different view from the one they had as a child.

What shocking facts is the editor of the Daily Mail going to tell you tomorrow?

I wish someone would come up with a proper definition for the word 'poor'.

Have I read this right, she's got three jobs paying £33,000 a year?

If that's the case, the salary for each of those jobs is clearly not high enough. Its barely higher than what my graduate colleagues earn.

I'd say taking a Gucci bag there takes the piss just a little bit.

Charlotte Church's comment about begrudging paying 40% tax was a long time ago? Hmm. Not really that long ago but hey ho. It was on HIGNFY if I recall correctly within the last few years.

if you actually knew of the Church family you'd laugh at the faux pretence. The way her mum preened around Pontcanna, insulting my handicapped father one day in particular showed mass empathy for those worse off after all. A cynic would point out the numerous failed buisnesses Charlotte set her mum up in handily reduced the amount of tax Charlotte needed to pay too.

Church is looking for publicity, nothing more nothing less. Followed the Posh and Becks bandwagon. Now following the Brand bandwagon to get her name back in the spotlight. After all, singing career dead. The debacle that was her chat show on Channel 4 means even the BBC won't want her hosting anything.

EDIT : And don't get me started on her businesses now that have addresses of an accountancy firm specialising in tax avoidance...

It's difficult.

I agree witht he government in that people not working should have more incentive to find a job, too many people, and I used to share a house with some, refuse to work because the work they can get they feel is below them or they get more by claiming.

Just too lazy to get out of bed, being paid for by the honest folk who do work. These people have no self esteem and are just parasites on all of us.

The problem I feel is when they try to hit these people they end up hitting people who genuingly do have problems and should be assessed and treated differently.

There's always collateral damage, sadly.

Building industry takes the piss - so tax laws brought in as a consequence that hit others.

The problem too many on the left / thick celebs fail to grasp is things need to be paid for.

It's not bankers fault Greece is in the s&&& - it's the fault of the Greek people who routinely indulge in cash in hand work without paying taxes. Want the nice pensions, want the infrastructure, just want someone else to pay for it.

The benefits system is needed for those genuinely in need. It should never be a catchall for people who simply don't want to work and contribute. People complain about the benefits cap yet that figure is above the average salary, I do believe? So no incentive to work there.

There's massive inefficiencies that can be addressed for savings. Prescriptions, for example. I suffer from hayfever, manageable with over the counter stuff. GP wanted to prescribe instead, meaning the NHS pay for things I can easily buy myself.

I'm in a position where I could hire the tax avoidance accountants Church uses. I choose not to because I'm happy to pay slightly more than I should - one of my sons has special needs so I'm happy to contribute.

Talking about the Greeks, I read somewhere that most of their debt problem was brought on by the 2nd world war, where the nazi's forced them to 'loan' billions to the nazi war effort, effectively bankrupting them.
