If Napoli return Michu at the end of the loan period we will have to do a cost-benefit analysis of the best way forward. As it is more a case of trying to recoup value than extra spending, it would be stupid not to keep an open mind and assess the situation then.
No need - he's history and that decision has been made I would suspect. His value has plummeted. Firing on all cylinders in his first season with us, who knows hat someone might have been prepared to pay - £15m, £20m, £25m??? Now after 1.5 injury ruddled seasons with no sign of playing regular football let alone contributing when on the pitch, we're not going to worry about recouping the (very little) we spent on him. Out of the door as soon as is the way I see it. Which is unfortunate because at his best he WAS a sublime talent.
edit - I'd be more interested in bringing JdG back; a bit part player for napoli but would be a starter for us at the moment.

This is a difficult one because his fitness is probably going to be a perennial issue going forward, which is obviously a major one in terms of us in terms of him being in our playing squad next season, but also in terms of our ability to off load him.
Of course the other issue is cost, if we still had Bony, Gomis and Gylfi in the squad next season (0,1 2 or 3 having stayed or left are all possible) then Michu probably wouldn't be affordable if they all stayed, but if we can't off load him, or couldn't trust his fitness in terms of replacing one of the above three then that's also a problem, very tricky potentially given that he's probably on a large wage!

He couldn't wait to get out the door.Things aren't going well for him in Italy.Tough feckin titty. He doesn't want to play for our club and we've no room for this type of player. The only shame is we didn't cash in on him after his first season here but after only paying 2 m for him it's nothing to lose sleep over. He's a has been I'm afraid and we've moved on and he's gone backwards.Life's a bitch innit!

So much bitterness about someone who contributed so much to our club.
How sad that it must detract somewhat from your reflected enjoyment of a real golden period for our club.
Do you feel the same about JDG and about Bony who would have also been off like a shot if a CL offer had been forthcoming for him too?

We were the making of him as much as he shone for us.I'm not bitter about it at all but would prefer we left him where he was (out on loan). We're doing mightily fine without him and the lad is shot as a footballer.
Not sure how you'd think it would detract from my enjoyment of our golden season while he was here either? Sad you say lol, I loved him when he was here and he was one of our best players ever, but only for the one season. He faded in his 2nd season and wanted out.JDG wasn't our player and Bony is still here so comparing the 3 of them is pointless. He made his name here on the worldwide stage and then wanted out.He got his Spanish cap and came back a different person.Maybe rubbing shoulders with Xavi and Iniesta turned his head and he thought it time to leave little old Swansea, the club who got him his international capo and reputation.
I've no hard feelings for him,I'm thankful for what he done in that 1 season but I wouldn't want to see him back here when he's clearly a shadow of his former self.

Recouping value is not just about purchase price. There is a contract commitment that represents a sunk cost.
True this why we have someone else paying his wages until the contract runs down in 2015.
Why the hell did he extend if he clearly is nt happy here?
Benitez had the option of buying him cheap but has not taken us up on it or given him much game time.
MIchu's contract runs until 2016, while the Napoli loan deal ends this season. One or two on this thread need to think things through a bit more clearly. Are they saying we should just pay up the contract?
Whatever happens from now on, whether we give him away, pay him off - it doesn't matter. He's more than repaid the original investment. If he no longer fits in get shot.
