The Summer of ‘24 - ins, outs and maybes

Kelleher would be an excellent call as captain, and according to a chap on X with a pretty good record of being itk, it was Smith who failed the medical.

Good players in shite teams are a thing - I submit Colchester United as evidence and rest my case...

No, I'm pretty certain that iFollow will still be a thing next season, presumably just via Sky as the service provider. I had an e-mail earlier this month from EFL Digital confirming that subscriptions will still be available for matchday commentary, exclusive club videos etc., (and I assume live streams for midweek games not covered by Sky themselves, and all games for overseas U's).

They advised that everyone is going to have to resubscribe because the service provider is changing. That will also mean a new password too - apparently, try and log-in with your current username and password, then follow the instructions from there.

It’s June, the new season kicks off in August - chill everyone

I think Chay had to make a choice between mostly bench-warming for the U's or a reasonable chance of starting at an upwardly mobile Braintree, who have done a lot of business in the transfer window already. Can blame him for his decision.

In other news, rumoured we might be in for Tom's younger brother George Lapslie. Played plenty of games for Gillingham last season, and it would be a good connection with a U's legend.

Good opener for the season, should be a decent turnout for that one. Having waited literally years for Chesterfield to be back in the same league as the U’s, me and my mate Craig aren’t happy that both fixtures are Tuesday nights.

Well I don't know what football gods Gareth Southgate sacrificed a goat to, but it clearly has worked. Comfortably the worst of the (alleged) top seeds in the group stage, scraped through with one win and two draws in three dreadful performances, and scoring just two goals in the process, and still we win the group!

WTF?

In doing so, we also avoid at least three of Spain, Portugal, Germany and France in the knockout stages. However, if this isn't sorted out fast, we can forget worrying about who of those four might make it to the final, we'll be home long before that's a concern.

Bibs - pah. In my school days it was shirts v skins, but then again our PE teachers back then were clearly psychopathic latent homosexuals, or so it seemed

Billy Connolly had it right in his classic "Audience with..." show way back in 1985 - "We come from Jebrovia, and we don't give a shit".

Since you ask, for Danny Cowley, Marc Tierney, Bobby Hunt, Tony English, Alan Buck and KK Opara in order.

Nicky Cowley - believe he's currently Assistant Head Coach
Paul Tierney - full back like his brother, didn't overlap and only with us for a month on loan.
Billy Hunt - defender, only played one game for the U's (against Southend), five years before Bobby joined the U's.
Tommy English - forward, joined the U's a few months after brother Tony, and spent four seasons appearing regular with his brother.
David Buck - wing half, and not just brother but twin of goalkeeper Alan Buck. David only played once for the U's and not alongside Alan. Tragically died early at the relatively tender age of 50.
Lloyd Opara - forward, like his brother, but didn't overlap with KK who had already been booted by Whitton after what is described as "an act of misconduct".

They all played and/or worked for Colchester United, and had brothers who played and/or worked for Colchester United.

As far as England are concerned, absolutely. But, there have been some scintillating matches, and Belgium v Romania that's just finished has been one of them.

Okay, a nice easy start to the weekend, what do Danny Cowley, Marc Tierney, Bobby Hunt, Tony English, Alan Buck and KK Opara all have in common?

He was well cast for the film. Stallone is only 5'7" (8" depending what you read), Cooper was only 5cm taller, but you're right, a very good goalkeeper.

Correct - Paul Cooper was the curve ball, most don't know he was Sly's 'body double' for some of the goal-keeping scenes.

Okay, this one is probably an easy one, and shamelessly nicked from a fellow U's fan's trivia questions.

Who appeared in goal when Bobby Moore scored his last televised goal. To keep things interesting, you need all three answers.
