Looking on the bright side ... relegation may well mean Reed and Kruger will go the way of Eric Black. |
| News Comment | Why The Saints Board Must Sack Mauricio Pellegrino Now Before It Is Too Late! at 11:35:19
Out of his depth, must go agreed. But whether he will or not is another matter. Yes, long-term supporters realize what a relegation battle is like. For sure, Kat and Krueger don't. And Eric Black, who certainly does, has already jumped ship. Mr Reed needs to earn his no doubt generous salary. |

*judging by the players body language I think he is losing the dressing room* Agreed ... though I'm wondering if he even 'won' the dressing room in the first place. |
| News Comment | Fonte Leads The Way Towards A Bright Future at 14:51:52
Saints have played better in the second half of each of the matches so far, so yes, Koeman can adapt as the game progresses. This is something Pochetino couldn't and still can't do, as proved v. Liverpool on Sunday. No plan B! |
| News Comment | Would The Sale Of Chambers Be A Step Too Far ! at 13:42:55
Let's all take a deep breath ... there's plenty of time before the transfer window closes and Koeman wouldn't be on board if the basic idea was to sell every decent player on the books. Leaving MoPo out of the discussion - my bet is that he'll be out of his depth at Spurs (and out of a job before long), let's go player by player: Rickie Lambert. A legend but only a season or so left at the top. 4 mill? Good deal, and he's where he wants to be. Luke Shaw. May or may not become a truly great player. Hope he does but 32 mill is about twice what he's worth right now. Interesting to see he's looking somewhat, um, above his ideal weight away from MoPo's training. Koeman seems impressed with Targett. Adam Lallana. OK, we'll miss him but a little more consistency with the brilliance would have been good. Still needs to step up to become a great not just a very good player, maybe he'll do that at Liverpool. Ramirez can do the same job for us as AL. Lovren. Yes, there's a chance it could all fall apart without a replacement for him. Let's hope the double deal with Celtic for their centre back and goalkeeper is on. Chambers v. Clyne? I'd choose Clyne for RB for now. Surely we haven't forgotten the Cortese-era endless negotiations for Ramirez and Osvaldo, or the poor deals we got for Walcott and the Ox? Never mind about the Forren and Mayuka fiascos. Koeman probably knows as well as anyone which young European players are worth signing, and I assume Ralph is doing the heavy negotiating. (In Koeman and Ralph we trust ... maybe Les not so much ...) As for waiting for the side to gel, I don't see that as an issue, as Koeman is getting players he knows. It's business, there are times to sell and I'd suggest having a look at the first chapter of the new book Soccernomics to get the idea. The future's bright, starting with a win against Liverpool! |
| News Comment | Shaw Set For Move To Old Trafford at 10:37:43
No, this was an offer noone could refuse. It's an insane amount of money for a player who still has a lot to learn. It's enough to buy at least two or three decent players. Or maybe they think they already have a replacement in Matt Targett. |
| News Comment | Mauricio Pochettino An Appraisal at 12:21:42
Couldn't agree more. OK, Saints have looked a lot more like a solid Premiership side but MP is still a long way from being the complete manager for all the reasons above. Didn't he see the need for more power and pace in the attack? The full backs can't do everything. As for the transfers, we don't know who was making the decisions. But MP having worked with Osvaldo before should have realised that he wasn't what we needed in any way. Maybe it's just me but in a lifetime of supporting Saints the end of this season and last season have been the only times I've felt a bit bored watching some of the games. The predictable 70% possession and the equally predictable lack of created chances. I wish him well. Now what was Benali saying about Laudrup being right for the Saints job ... |
| News Comment | The Vultures Will Be Descending In January at 11:32:18
Will be interested to see if Wanyama is still an automatic start. The sloppy mistake that almost let Hull back into the game was not unexpected. Remember the comments from Espanyol fans about Pochettino? Poch was a player who simply didn't make mistakes and as a manager wasn't (and isn't) afraid to cut players out (Forren, Ramirez, Cork anyone?). Taking Wanyama off so quickly after surely means that Poch was seriously teed off. Let's see. |
| News Comment | Saints Can Win At Anfield If They Get The Tactics Right at 10:30:03
Value for money for Osvaldo, Wanyama and Ramirez? Have to be fair, it's too early to say for the first two, but Ramirez - class player etc. etc. - has delivered next to nothing. OK, maybe he's 'one for the future' but surely the whole point of club record transfer fees is to get players who are more or less guaranteed to fit into the team and make a difference. I'm not convinced by any of the three, but I truly hope I'm wrong. OTOH, if we'd borrowed Lukaku for the season ... |
