Big game tomorrow night. But yes, it will be nice to get back to league football, especially as it’s now uninterrupted for a few months. |

Where we were decades ago is irrelevant. We are in a far, far worse position now than when they took over. That’s not a negative mindset, it’s reality. They have been abysmal custodians. I agree about Jenkins and Morgan, but yet again, you are diverting. This discussion isn’t about the trust. I do back Coleman yes, as I did Levein and Kaplan when they first arrived. If he runs the club as badly as them, I will change my view. Unlike yourself, I judge people on what they acheive, not their nationality. |

Levein and Kaplan have ruined our club yet you get uppity because people call them Yanks. What do you care about more, the football club or its soon to be ex owners? |

As I’ve explained to you before, they will if Hollywood lose interest and let them revert to their natural level. Coleman, Morse and co won’t get any of it if they take the club forward. To imply that Swansea fans are xenophobic and Wrexham fans aren’t, is poor even by your imaginative standards. [Post edited 18 Nov 9:40]

Extremely convoluted, but I have to admit I like the promotion/relegatiion playoff with a team from Group A. Like we used to have domestically years ago. |

Once again, you’re failing to understand that selling a player for more than you paid for him does not mean you haven’t sold him below market value. If we sell Franco and Key for £5m in the summer, that will be more than we paid for them and less than they are currently worth. We had about £50m for what was virtually a premier league starting eleven. |

Giving Ayew a long contract on three or four times the average PL wage when we were odds on to be relegated will do that to a club. |

You’re hopping from point to point. One minute it’s Steve Cooper, the next it’s Ivan Toney, now it’s xenophobia. Americans will own the vast majority of the shares going forward. If they run us well, they well get a huge amount of support. If they run us as badly as their predecessors, ‘Yank’ is the least they can expect. Just ask Tony Petty, Mike Lewis and Doug Sharpe what we used to call them. |

He doesn’t like people criticising Levein and Kaplan so will blame the state we’re in at the moment on Potter signing Joel Asoro |

Given up on ‘Potter should have signed Ivan Toney’ then have you? Three surviving first team players, four if you include Connor Roberts who had a couple of cameo appearances towards the end of the previous season. Academy graduates and £7m. Fabianski was our keeper in the Prem. That’s atrocious. Compare that to any of the teams that have come down since. How many lost most of their starting eleven and only had £7m to replace them with? As I’ve said, Potters signings were very poor. I’m not blaming Levien and Kaplan for how he spent the meagre amount he was given to completely rebuild a team. We had plenty of players with long term development potential. We had a category A academy once. Potter blooded the best ones, our owners had to sell them to keep the lights on, then downgraded the academy. I’m not sure what Potters remit was. Probably to firefight and bring young players through. Coopers was to get us up. He wouldn’t have been allowed so many high profile loans if it wasn’t. You have to realise that not all mangers/recruitment teams have the same remit. It varies with different clubs, owners and circumstances. Whether it was necessary or not is a different issue. I completely understand we couldn’t shift Ayew or Borja on the money we were paying them. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t a firesale. You probably don’t even see the irony in ‘apologists for poor work’. At least they are going now. |

Yeah I agree with that. I’m sure the plan must be to challenge for promotion, but it will be gradual. I don’t expect significant investment in the playing squad in January, maybe a striker and a bit of squad depth. |

The bit you’re not grasping with Toney is Peterborough was his level at the time. He’d spent the previous three seasons at Barnsley, Scunthorpe, Wigan and Shrewsbury, without making much impact. Had his potential been obvious, he would have stayed at Newcastle or gone to a bigger club than either ourselves or Peterborough. Potters recruitment was terrible. Nobody is disagreeing with you there. He was much more successful developing the young players we already had. |
| Forum Reply | Would you go all out for Conner Roberts free in the summer? at 07:20 17 Nov 2024
Both are only on contracts until the end of the season and both will probably leave. If we signed Roberts it would be as a first team regular. The only real comparison to make is Key v Roberts, we’re not comparing him to backups. Don’t get me wrong. I’d still pick Roberts there, but I’d rather keep Key and strengthen the areas of the team that need it. |

Saying ‘we could have just bought Ivan Toney’ is a bit naive really. £7m isn’t a lot to build a squad that had been ripped apart and McBurnie had already been earmarked for that role. Overall Potters signings were failures, Celina did well that season but he was the only one, Blaming him for not signing a player that then went on to do really well is ridiculous. There were at least 30 other clubs with bigger budgets than us who didn’t sign him either. There will be players within our price range this and every other season that slip under everyone’s radar and go on to do much better than expected. Resolven knows this, but he’ll say anything to defend Levein and Kaplan. |

He looked onside to me. Can’t deny they battered us there though and on the balance of play we were lucky to get a point. Surprised they didn’t even try to mitigate against our pace out wide on the break, but we were very much second best overall. |

You’re confusing selling players for less than we paid for them with selling them for less than their market value. To use your favourite example, Brighton made a profit on Gyokores. If financial necessity dictates you do that with most of your first team, it’s a firesale. Whether that has been brought on by your signing players like Ayew, Bony and Borja on contracts that were barely sustainable in the PL, let alone the championship, is by the by. |

Going all out is a budgeting issue though. If we push the boat out to sign a player like Connor, it likely means sacrifices in other positions. I’ve no idea what we’ll be able to spend, but I’d certainly prioritise a striker, attacking creativity and a centre back over a position where we’ve already got Key and Parker. Assuming a huge budget or in the more likely event that we get an offer we can’t refuse for Key, then yes I’d absolutely love to have him back here. |
