Coventry are given the opportunity to play at the Ricoh Arena rent free next season by management company Arena Coventry Limited.
The Sky Blues and ACL, who run the stadium on behalf of joint owners the Alan Edward Higgs Charity and Coventry City Council, have been involved in a lengthy and bitter rent row which has been ongoing for around 16 months.
An ACL statement reads: "To enable the football club to fulfil its commitments under Football League regulations, and to provide stability whilst Coventry City Football Club Limited, which owns the League Share, remains in administration, ACL has agreed to allow the club to play its homes games free of any rental fee, therefore removing any need for the supporters to travel outside the city to watch home games.

They've done well. Successfully weaseling out of an agreement they signed of their own free will that looked like a ludicrous business plan to begin with. I wonder if my bank will waive the £500 I've just put on my credit card for another season ticket using the same logic?

Any of the above ......
2:25 my hometown stadium, spent many a summer afternoon watching baseball there, bit misty eyed at that. Went to the opening game at the start of the 1971 season, great times.

I remember hearing "if you owe the bank 1,000,they've got you by the short and curlies. If you owe them 10,000,000 you've got them by the short and curlies.
Clearly, Clive, you didn't borrow enough.

Will the stadium owners keep the profits from beer sales etc?
If so, they are still making money. If not, they are losing money as a stadium, unused, is a depreciating asset with maintenance costs.
Swansea's old stadium was unused for a while and ended up looking like a tip... before they tore it down.
Swansea's old stadium always looked like a tip, even when they were playing in it. I can't think of a ground with a more bizarre collection of mismatched stands.

Latest on the Coventry situation is the administrator has accepted an offer from an interested party. The party is the previous owners Sisu who put it into administration in the first place - or at least an arm of Sisu that isn't in admin. Sisu apparently keen for the club to seperate totally from the Ricoh and probably play at Walsall next season.
Did somebody say fit and proper person test?

Walsall? That'd be like asking us to play at Reading.
Jeez.

I reckon it's nice to see the local council or whoever it is in places like Swansea or Coventry trying to help their teams out as much as possible, if that's what this is about.
I think the fair play rule is incredibly unfair, and as with nearly everything bad in football, it affects QPR more than virtually any other side. Facking QPR factor again.
