Some supporters who attended the Preston game, may have been aware of a medical emergency that occurred in the Upper Loft right at end of the match. Andrew had had a brain haemorrhage and was taken to Charing Cross hospital. He spent 2 weeks in ICU over Christmas with family at his bedside but very sadly, at the age of only 61, he died last week.
Some of you will have known Andrew and many of you will have sat near him ,as he had a a season ticket in the upper loft for over 30 years.
It may have been that Andrew’s last conscious thoughts were celebrating that Jimmy Dunne very late winning goal and all the joy of a dramatic victory, at a place he spent so many happy times. This may give those who knew and loved him a tiny crumb of comfort. When thinking about Bill Shankly’s quote about football being more important than life and death, well what happened to Andrew certainly contradicts those words.
Andrew has been taken decades too early and our thoughts are with Vanessa, Michael,Miranda and all his family and friends. RIP Andrew

Didn't have the pleasure of knowing the gent, but you've written lovely words about him, as did Hugh Carnegy in the FT piece. I hope he was looking over your shoulder as you wrote, pen in hand.

Rest easy Andrew. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.

Very sad news and especially tough for his family and friends at this time of year.

It sounds from the FT piece that he lived life to the full but was a dedicated family man and certainly one of our own.

Condolences to his family, friends and all the R's fans who knew him.

RIP Andrew.

That is distressing news. As I was going up the stairs to leave I saw someone (Andrew) sat in his seat and looking very out of sorts so I stopped to ask him if he was OK and he informed me he had lost all sensation in his right leg. I was a 1st aider for over 30 years so I did a quick check to make sure he wasn't suffering a stroke and checked his capillary refill which was weak. I left him with another R's fan who sits along from me whilst I went to get a steward or St. Johns if I had seen them 1st. a senior steward ran over from the Paddocks where there had been an incident and after a few questions called for medical attention. When the St. Johns team arrived Andrew was still talking coherently but wasn't looking great. I was only going to be in the way from that point on so I left and went out to the SAR entrance to meet Dave.
My deepest condolences to his family and I had feared the worst when I went to look for him at the home games since PNE. That's no age at all. RIP Andrew.

The grass is always greener.
