Looking forward to the game. Proper FA Cup tie for me. They will be fired up after last weeks drubbing of Aldershot and with a new manager to impress. We will have a decent and hopefully vocal away following with the players up for it after being frustrated at Ebbsfleet. Add in the National Leagues top scorers in Houghton (11) and Mitchell(9) and we have the recipe for a great game. Hopefully we can keep the mistakes to a minimum and progress into the first round proper in what appears a far tougher game now than when the draw was made.

Fantastic new owners, a manager who is doing a great job since taking over the reigns, a talented squad of players and a connection with the fans which gladdens the heart, players who will go on to be saleable assets, riding high in the league with a chance of play offs/ promotion, through to the first round of the FA Cup. Can we now finally say that the rot has stopped and the good ship Dale is sailing into calmer waters..we finally have our club back with a team to be proud of? Today's win in the FA Cup feels very significant to me, similar to when we drew 3-3 at Morecambe and beat Bradford 3-0 at Valley Parade. I wasn't at today's game, i'm in Portugal, but even from here it seems a significant day for the club and it sounds like a excellent performance.

I'm inclined to agree

I've been very sceptical (to say the least) about how we could progress as a club with the style of football on offer

It's about results

That's what breeds confidence, which in turn should lead to better performances to draw in the crowds - the main objective in becoming sustainable

We really could do with a cup run to demonstrate to the town we're back in business. Today should be seen as a stepping-stone, to be built upon

JM has an unbelievable opportunity as a new manager. If he can take it from here, that's when we'll know what he's made of

Enjoy the sunshine

First half was a bit dull to watch, but second half we ripped them apart and the lad on loan from Sheffield United was very good today, and I would say our MoM based on his performance today.

I hope we get a good draw, when is it on Monday, i.e the time.

Apparently…..

The 2024-25 Emirates FA Cup’s first round proper draw will take place at Bradford City’s University of Bradford Stadium on Monday 14 October.
The draw will be broadcast on BBC Two from 7pm that evening, and the city of Bradford has been selected for its historical links to the competition.
Ties in the first round will be played between Friday 1 November 2024 and Monday 4 November 2024.
The iconic look of the competition’s current trophy was first designed and manufactured by Bradford jewellers Fattorini and Sons, with the original version competed for between 1911 and 1993.
That piece of silverware was made in time for the 1911 Final, which Bradford City coincidentally won by defeating Newcastle United 1-0 after a replay, and this remains the club’s only major honour.

Agree that the first half was a bit dull but we were in control apart from the odd dangerous attack from AFC. Special mention for Robson today who made a stunning save towards the end of the half from a powerful header low down to his left. There were some brilliant performances throughout the team today and a number of candidates for MOM but agree the new guy was a contender, he had a great debut.

Handy 9k winning prize.

Plus half of the gate receipts in the preliminary rounds. So another £10k I would think - maybe more

That reduces in the 3rd round proper as the 'pool' takes a cut.

First half i gave to Fylde as i felt they controlled more of it than us.

Second half was starting to get a bit better then the goal lit the bonfire alight and we never looked back.

Schoolyard scramble in their 6 yard box then poked home by KM
Second was Fylde passing it across the back 4 (3 times) before Buyabu robbed their right back, put in a perfect pass and KM finished nicely
Robson assist for the 3rd, got to be honest thought it was a touch offside but linesman was happy and a great lob finish for the hat.
Henryesque free-kick by Barlow for the 4th. Two specialists? We are blessed.

Looked like 4 at the back until Tav went off after 65, reverting to 5 after that.

Poll: DF in or out

Mitchell is the first Dale player to score an away hat-trick in the FA Cup.

The previous ten - Page (4), Kelly, Hall, Whitehurst (4), Clennell, Woods, Jenkins, Le Fondre, Done and Mendez-Laing - were all at Spotland.

Who were the back four? Only seen the highlights but it looked like the usual back three with wing backs pushing on on most of the clips.

The gate receipts in fa cup proper rounds, in our case are split 50/50 as we don’t get anything from the pool (I think) the 50% that the league opposition get is divided in two and that goes in the pool

Gordon
Beckwith
Hogan
Babayo

With Tobi and Tarryn further up on each wing.

Once we reverted to 5 at the back Babayo had acres of space as a wing back and was much further forward

That’s how i saw it at least.

Ah right, assumed Allarakhia took Rodney’s role up near Mitchell and he looked to be more central on the highlights. The defenders we have allow a natural transition between formations though and that’s of real benefit.

What a fine and comprehensive win, well done Jim and the players. Caught the second half commentary online. As others have said, it was very fair minded, with due praise given to the Dale fans who "never stopped singing". Brett Ormerod commenting on Ian Henderson wearing 40 on his shirt, "how big is Rochdale's squad?" was not well researched, but he made better observations as well. Better than listening to FRMSE talking his usual nonsense on the first half of Oldham v Halifax on Radio Bolton.

Such a shame that "the lowest ranked side in the competition" (the worst side, bury of course) still have never played an FA cup game proper, despite claiming they have won it twice. Two rusty sheriff badges on a club crest do not a trophy make.

Who do you want next? Assuming it's not regionalised, Weston-Super-Mare away could be fun. Dale are ball 55 in the draw.

With Mitchell playing like prime Ibrahimovic I am curious about January. This will be the first transfer window where we have a sellable asset likely in demand, yet we’re financially secure. I know the Ogdens don’t want us to run like ‘enjoy the ride’ bury, but I’ll be intrigued to see if we sell low again or hold out for a genuinely impressive fee.

If the player wants to hold on and stay at the club then i don't see the point in selling Mitchell, or any other player. Of course every player as his price but i'm not sure we would get Mitchells true worth as a National League selling club. If his goals fire us to the play offs, Wembley, the EFL then think what he would be worth then, he would probably command a seven figure fee. The aim is to reach the the EFL, we won't do that by selling our best players and it wouldn't be cost effective. The Ogdens admit they don't know much about football but they do when it comes to finance and speculating to accumulate and there is a three year plan in place. A return to the EFL is worth something like £1.5 million per season in extra revenue to the club and we would also receive extra funding for the academy which we could start up again, so selling Mitchell or any of our players doesn't make sense in the short or the long term. We can't stand in the way of players who choose to move on though but with the close bond between the players and manager you would hope that they have all bought into the three year plan.

If we are still well placed in the league going into January it would make more sense to take a gamble and do part of next Summers team strengthening early in order to give us extra impetus leading up to the play offs, maybe sign a couple of long term improvements to the squad if they are available. If we pull up short this season then we have those players in place early which would be advantageous at the start of next season. Now would also be a good time to start looking at bringing in another goalscorer rather than thinking of selling one, unfortunately we cant keep Rodney on the pitch and we cant keep relying on Mitchells goals. Selling our best players early into the plan goes against everything that we have set out to achieve, the Ogden family will know that. Sustainability is a longer term plan and it's one that won't go hand in hand with a quick return to the EFL. Unfortunately, we aren't in a position to sell our best players to balance the books and recruite players of the required standard to take us back to the EFL, as well as running the club sustainably. The Ogdens are going to take the financial hit on that but it's heartening to see that already they do have saleable assets in the squad, so their money hasn't been squandered on poor quality signings.

I thought Babayo seemed to operate on the wing, instead of operating at fullback, one thing is certain, he seems to have some pace and seemed keen to get the ball into the box at the first opportunity.

In respect to Mitchell, he may be worth an extension, but either way, if the right bid comes in for him and I don't mean peanuts, can we stop going and progressing his career.

It would also seem the injury curse as struck again, with McBride and Akinde both being out for around five to six weeks.
