Leicester City do retain a strong interest in QPR’s Ilias Chair and expect them to step up their interest before the transfer window closes. Rangers want to keep Chair and would prefer to cash in on fellow playmaker Chris Willock instead #LCFC#Leicester#QPR
The other thing people forget is the player himself Chair has shown himself to be fully committed and available to play whilst with us which makes him a hero in comparison to most of his team mates. Does he not deserve a move to a club with ambitions to get promoted and possibly a chance to play in the top flight. Think you put him in a good team and he would look so much better as the link up he had with Eze when he was here and with Willock shows with fellow gifted technical players just what he can do. If he was 5 10 or 6 foot he would be playing Premier League football with his technique and ability to create chances so if he does go good luck and well wishes to him

Rangers appear to hold all the cards here. Player is under contract until 2026 so we can demand a nice chunky fee. HOWEVER, it's important we actually get the sale done as likelihood is his price will never be higher. He's played AFCON, World Cup and is still a good age with good stats behind him. If we want anything over £5m then it needs to happen this summer

We have to make a sale. We don’t hold any cards.
This will be like when the much maligned Hoilett and Phllips left. Both generated plenty of scorn but in their last season were responsible for most of our attacking play and people wondered why couldn’t score goals the next season.
It’ll be the same when Chair goes and all the fans who only seem to see the negatives will wonder why we look so uncreative.
Bare bones.

In a way bit similar to Luke Freeman's transfer a few years back, shame he never really made it at Sheff Utd but we still got £5m for him. Now is probably the time to sell Chair, probably anywhere between £6m and £10m would be a fair price, bung in a sell on clause and add ons just in case he progresses and attracts interest if Leicester make it back to the Prem next season.

I suppose the 'model' and our current situation dictate that he should be sold if we get any kind of decent offer.
It will be a bit gutting though because a) there's no chance we'll replace him like for like, and b) he's ideally suited to how we played on Saturday - which hadn't been the case for quite a while.

Aaron Collins of Bristol Rovers would be a great replacement but I expect he is on a lot of clubs' radars being the L1 player of the year last season. I see Barton is also quoting £4m as a starting point for any transfer fee.
Again though, like Clive has mentioned umpteen times before, he is one of these sorts of players we should have been looking at when he was playing at Forest Green and could have got him for peanuts.
All very well getting 5-10m but he is impossible to replace in the next two weeks and Smyth unlikely to be able to replace him, certainly short term. When we lost Chair to injury last year our attacking ability went off a cliff. Needs must and all that but Chair going fills me with dread
Equally, when we last lost him to the African Nations Cup, we won most games without him (& Dieng) ! We may have even been undefeated ?
But I agree, potentially a Big loss to our attacking options. So the more money the better and asap.
Also, I think the double barrelled lad they lent to Luton 2 years ago (Dewsbury-Hall ?) is doing quite well for them, a bit similar ?

The biggest problem I think we have selling players for any sum if Hoos will tell anyone who will listen how brassic we are and therefore will take any old sum.
It might be true but it's not a great sales technique in my opinion.
Then people wonder why players run their contract down...

If he does go and we manage to get some headroom from the sale, hopefully we'll be able to replace him with someone like Richards stepping up (admittedly not as good) and perhaps strengthen another weakness like RB so across the board we're stronger.

With the club having him under contract until 2026, it would be very hard to turn down a sizeable offer from Leicester for him now, cause his value will most likely decrease next season.
It would take a lot for the club to turn down an offer of lets say £10m for example, especially as it would give us more FFP headroom.

Financial reality accepted, I'd be beyond gutted to see him leave. Absolutely everything good we do with the ball goes through him, and that's been the case for a long time. He's the only player that constantly moves to create angles and space, shows for passes, wants the ball, and takes direct responsbility to try and win us games. Sometimes that manifests in doing too much, but I think we massively take for granted his contributions through 90mins and it will leave an absolute chasm in our team if he leaves.
The fee is the sticky point, because we have to accept almost anything for players atm, but you'd argue his value to us outweighs anybody else in the squad currently, bar maybe Dykes (who isn't as good but is our only senior striker), so to us he's a £10m+ player, but I don't see how our board can turn down anything above £3-5m, for anyone...
One good thing, if we decide to stand firm and don't agree a deal, you can be sure Chair will still give his all on the pitch, and that's the measure of the man - especially relevant compared to some of his peers...

Also as a side note, and I'll whisper it because I hope it doesn't happen, but if he did go I would be quietly delighted for him personally that it's to a team like Leicester. I think he'd thrive in a better squad alongside PL quality players, and he deserves a step up after grafting his nuts off for us, year in year out.

Hoos has to say that for the fans, because most refuse to accept the reality so need it repeatedly explained. Clubs don't need to listen to Hoos, they just need to look at the company results - it tells you the same thing.

Agree with every word.
"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."
With 2-5 million being mentioned, i am just surprised it is not at least 10 m or more
He is a fringe Moroccan national team player, played at the last world cup, is an attacking player / playmaker, has good stats for this division, contracted with some years still to go, only 5 m-ish?
Agree with the above - Chair has carried our malfunctioning teams for years now, glued the club together with continuity without a word of complaint, 100% effort every game, skill and vision that every mate I bring down the Rs comments on.
In his rare absences we look half the team. If Willock leaves we’ll barely notice. If Chair leaves we’ll be in big trouble unless we have a spectacular replacement, which we clearly don’t.
But he deserves a big move, if he leaves he’s done QPR proud

If Richards stepped up anything he’d pull his hamstring or calf muscle
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Ilias often slows the game down which would not suit teams like Leicester who like to move forward quickly so I would be surprised if he went there and if he did I don't see him being a regular starter.

Great post Simmo like you I've been a massive admirer of Chair and his contribution to the team, on the odd occasion he goes off the pitch, which is very rare, I've turned to my brother and said there goes the heartbeat, pushing, probing always making himself available for the ball, great skill with the ball at his feet and the great ability to be able to maintain ball retention, some players receive the ball and want to shift it on as quickly as possible, not our Illy.
Hes one of those players you love to have in your side, always looks composed and looks to create opportunities for his teammates. His attitude and professionalism towards the club has been brilliant, there's no loyalty to one club any more for various reasons mostly financial but he has shown great respect to the club and even though his very good friends have moved on to pastures new, thinking Ebs here obviously, he has kept delivering on and off the pitch.
I am very sadly accepting that he has to leave purely because of FFP, it's a shame we didn't offload Willock last year when we had a chance of getting very good money because that would probably have plugged the financial deficit. As somebody else said if he was taller other clubs would be viewing him very differently, it's a real shame he has to go because we could actually build a promotion chasing team around him.
We definitely should be comparing him to Hamer he's got exactly the same qualities, Coventry got a good fee for him because ironically their profile is better than ours at the moment, he performed brilliantly in a team that reached the play off final and if I remember correctly scored a fantastic goal.
