Well, the money markets didn't like the mini budget.
I met Liz Truss in a hotel in Monmouth a few years ago.
She said her solution to pensioner poverty would be to feed them on Pedigree Chum.
Not only would this save a lot of money, it would give them shiny coats and a nice cold nose.

All fair points : that is a good summary
Brexit will prove to be a narrow escape if the remainders in the Conservative and Labour parties etc do not get their way.
But in truth both the uk and France Southern Europe etc have been spending beyond their means for years.
I hope Labour supporters know this applies to them as well.
I hope remainders realise any closer links with EU means our poor paying for their poor.
Uk dept is 20-30 % lower than most EU countries bar Germany and Netherlands.
I refuse to pay for French socialism

I thought our poor were paying for their rich? Correct me if I'm wrong.

" Labour will get in and spend even more money"

I think this article completely debunks that myth. Shows that Tory governments borrow more and repay less of the national debt.

Just watched his documentary on Netflix last night. Magic. Love Keef. Although he did appear to be wearing a set of Arthur ASkeys spoons weaved into his Barnet.

I wonder if Keef can confirm in his Next Rockumantary if he has known any white couples in their 70's and can confirm any tantalising tales about them.

If Only Lester Bangs from Rolling stone Magazine had asked Keef about it back in the day.

I was once at a work event in The Savoy and went to the gents only for none other than Keef himself, resplendent in natty jacket and sunglasses, to saunter over to one of the urinals.

I have been a Conservative voter since Blair (some(Baz) would say that was a tory vote anyway ) I wanted Mordaunt and still do.My own views are centrist

If there was an election today i would vote Labour. Starmer is vanilla /beige but maybe we need that at the moment .

For those that demand a GE now I totally understand , but you cant change the rules at half time . We do not vote for a PM but a party to govern.

Extremist views left and right do not win elections , this market turbulence would have occurred if Corbyn had won in 2019. he was unelectable , Truss is unelectable .

I would get Truss out , cancel all of the mini budget, get Mordaunt or Sunak in . Bring forward the GE to the summer to get the best turnout. Get Covid and hopefully the war in the rear view mirror and let the country decide our direction . Labour in my view should campaign to stay out of the EU but rejoin the single market to respect the closeness of the referendum result . The Torys would have to choose their own stance . The country needs to unite as best possible .

Thats it from me on the politicals for a bit

"My own views are centrist".

You know, you may just be the first person ever to mention the centre in one of these passionate political debates.

That's this thread's Culverhouse or Mornington Crescent moment.

Shut this thread down, Northern, we're done

Thing is, and I know you meant it light heartedly, but I shut this down, and three more appear.

I just want to run a QPR and football website. Talk about sport, few jokes, bit of music, occasional (occasional) politics with other QPR fans.

And yet, time and time and time again, I get 30 pages of this. And loads of people posting on here who you never, ever see on a QPR thread, or a football thread, or a music thread, or anything really, until there's a politics thread, and then they're into it balls deep.

I don't understand why you guys don't use the multiple, multiple other politics dedicated websites, newspapers, message boards, social media. Why are you doing it here? Why don't you ever comment on the QPR and football stuff?

Even weirder than the notion that somebody would post something, log out, log back in as somebody else, and agree with it - which people have done on here, but I reiterate I don't think is happening on this thread - is people that loiter around on a little QPR website never saying anything about QPR, or the division or sport they play in, but get all foamy at the cock as soon as there's anything remotely political.

You are right and I feel for you. It's a real whack a mole scenario.

I think it's because this country, the world even, is in such a state with so many monumental problems.

People are feeling worried, angry, ignored, betrayed.

Let's keep the debate civil, though, to make it easier for you and because we are all here because we love Rangers*.

There is so much which needs to be fixed but all of it will easier to achieve if we find a way to coexist. There has never been a time when all the world's inhabitants have had the same values and beliefs, nor will there ever be.

On this thread alone:

- I have been called a C* NT for stating a literal fact

- Accused of having multiple accounts on this thread by someone who then throws a tantrum when I ironically make the same accusation of him

- Told I don't care about old people - based on nothing

- Based on nothing told I don't care about disabled people... I mean for FFS. With a family member who has a severe brain injury from a car crash you have no idea how offensive that was

So when you say, and I am assuming you are referring at least in part to me: “people that loiter around on a little QPR website never saying anything about QPR, or the division or sport they play in, but get all foamy at the cock as soon as there's anything remotely political"

Well I am literally sitting in an Uber back from having been out since the game now with a bunch of mates who are season ticket holders who like me were at the game

So yes I do loiter around this poxy site because I f*cling love this club. So I consume its limited content. A thread about Eze's ratings on BBC or R's on the radio might click on out of amusement but I don't engage in it. Back in the day when we had fans who sang the praises of Karl Henry and the slagged off the likes of Adel (as one fellow season ticket holder near me fell into those categories) that sort of stuff I would engage with

But now things going well. Yeah excuse me but I will browse threads about the club I care about and have been to I would guess in excess of 700 games of without engaging to the same extent as I will with ones where I have slurs against me, where with zero basis says I don't give a sh*t about disabled people considering what I deal with

Well, I've actually stuck up for you a few times over the past few weeks, and you've tossed it back in my face. So as you can be quite cold to people on here, allow me to be quite cold back and quote something you felt was appropriate to say to somebody back to you: "It's a very sad personal story that you have but it's got zero relevance to what I have said."

Fundamental point - this is a football website, and a QPR website. There are hundreds and hundreds of politics websites. Why not go and chat that there, and not here. Give everybody a break. Not just you, this goes for several accounts that I only ever see when there's a politics thread, but as you've come back at me I've replied to you.

I was a moderator on a local forum for a couple of years, all based around people who lived in my area of SE London.

When I was asked to become a moderator on there, I said ok but I would not go near the Politics section (it was seperate) and I refused to look at it let alone moderate it. So many perfectly nice normal people fell out with each other it was crazy, and worse still they all lived near each other. We had to ban people, put them on mute, ask them to stop posting on topics etc etc, and then people would just jump onto other threads anbout 20mph zones and bring politics into that, annd crime etc. In the end all politics (and religion) was just banned dicussion wise, a bit late, but it made things a lot easier.

I don't think people realise how draining it is, to give up your free time so people can use something for free, only to continually disregard and / or have a go at you. It's reasonably soul destroying and you start to wonder why you bother.

I have no idea how you do it Clive, especially in view of the great content and time you give in terms of match reports, opposition & ref analysis / previews, season reviews, interviews etc. I think it's probably important for you to know that there are plenty of people who are either active contributors or more sporadic ones like me who really value this site and everything you do to keep it running.

On our site, someone posted something once about it being the 1% who take over and ruin it for everyone else, and there is an element of truth in that.

Lastly, on our site we ended up with something called 'slow mode' which meant you could only post every x hours on selected threads, worked quite well as people got less reactive and more thoughtful - not everyone liked it though.

Good luck!

I guess I'll have to take one on the chin. I did say further up I was enjoying the thread, and could we help keep it going by playing nicely.

I'm off to watch some adults abuse the referee at my son's U12 match. I won't be joining in as I know the games can't run without them, so I'll encourage others to follow suit and behave and show them the respect they deserve, even if I don't always agree with their decisions.

Nothing like fresh bread, enjoy and have a good Sunday.

Good article in the Sunday Times today - "how quickly will you be able to get at your cash?"
Share prices have slumped - the situation in Ukraine partly blamed plus inflation. Some are predicting a Stock Market crash and a period of Quantitive Tightening.Central banks have hit the pause button on the massive bond buying programmes.
£25.7 Billion was pulled from equity funds in the last year.

Cash is still king, they went to the trouble of updating the notes to those plastic monstrosities so why would they destroy things now?
Get as much out as you can and use it as often as you can.Post Office cash withdrawals are running at about £4billion a month...
There sre some good bankers out there,a former one(and a friend) says we've got to be our own Central Banks ,without the ability to print cash of course, but to stock up cash and bullion/coins(if you can find them of course).
Hurry though as stocks of the "shiny poo" are dwindling rapidly.I notice the TV bullion adverts are becoming rare.

"Am I the only one who is uncomfortable about the idea of the bank of England printing money to give to private pension funds? What other investments are they planning to bail out in future?

As for the affordability of public pensions, the issue is that a lot of them are index linked so are going up a lot faster than the wages of the people being taxed to pay for them. Also you have a situation where the people paying for them are never going to get the same deal when it's their turn.

I know some on defined benefit public sector pensions that are getting a £5k rise in it this year, that's more than someone on minimum wage will get in total for their pension if they even get to retire. It feels unfair and unsustainable."

Your not alone, I find it quite amazing. Isnt there a standard message that the value of investments can go down as well as up> if we choose to live with free market economics then we have to expect there will be dips as well as peaks.

The 19.2 billion the BOE have just spent propping up gilts could have bought us approx 190 HS2 projects or equivalent infrastructure projects. Imagine if that money has been invested in green energy, water utility upgrades, railways and other transport upgrades

as a society we are generally being robbed blind whilst being dazed and confused by misdirection from the government and institutions
