Very proud to be voted Planet Swans Poster of the Year 2017 by my fellow posters. Especially on a site that nearly had 20 million impressions last year.

The funniest case of mistaken identity by the BBC has to be back in the early ‘80s when Dexys were performing Jackie Wilson Said on Top of the Pops in front of a projected backdrop of Jockie Wilson!
Actually, no. Kevin Rowland has admitted asking for the backdrop of Jocky as a joke. (And it was very funny )

Yeah, I cringed when they were showing LeBron James in the segment instead of Kobe.
I’m a bit surprised that some haven’t heard of him. He’s one of the greatest basketball players of all time...and it’s a growing sport in the UK. The NBA is certainly well supported here.
This is akin to someone like Tiger Woods dying.
To Americans who follow basketball, of course. I’m British and I swear I’d never heard of him until this tragedy.

Mike attacks the BBC for showing footage of LeBron James in a memorial package for Kobe Bryant: "If anybody else had done that they'd be accused of the worst form of racism. But the BBC can't be found guilty of that. They call it 'human error'. I call it a catastrophe."@iromgpic.twitter.com/fHQAj3HNHG

He’s probably better known over here for being a rapist rather than a basketball player.

Hardly racist though is it?
The implication is they couldn’t tell the difference between two black people and presumably they wouldn’t have made the same mistake if it was a white mega star.
In reality, it’s clumsy and unprofessional. It’s not racist. Human error is a fair summary, even though it’s a very embarrassing one.

Tell me about it a girl came onto me in Swansea last week and asked if I was the fella that played Aquaman.

Most I know would be as likely to be able to name him as they would the captain of the Ukrainian womens’ curling team.
The wall-to-wall press coverage here is completely baffling.
BBC News channel had the story on continuously from around 8.10 until 9.30 last night. No other news was mentioned apart from that. Truly staggering. The BBC news channel is shit now, should be renamed the American news channel. Sad that people have died but most people in the UK wouldn't even know who he is.

Did they mention that time he raped someone?

Somehow I don't think that Gareth Edwards passing away in a crash would make headline news in USA. Why this is major news in UK is a bit strange.
Because Gareth Edwards isn’t a world renowned sport star. Whatever we think of basketball, it has a massive global audience and he was one of its biggest stars.

I agree that the revered Mr Edwards isn't globally recognised and it will, possibly be headline news in Wales when his time comes but whatever we think of basketball is important. I lived in USA and can understand how they may feel and also that it may be a major sport in a few countries with a big audience but I guess most of us could probably reel off a handful of Basketball players.

Ha, I lived in New York and I even drove to Florida on a great round trip that took in Philadelphia, Washington DC down to Florida, over to New Orleans up to Tennessee. A few other places before back to NYC. That was a good while back though and I prefer American Football to basketball and could only mention a few players of that sport too.
