Tammy Abraham 22:18 - Dec 18 with 5956 viewsmarchamjack

Thought he deserved a thread of his own as he was the most anonymous player on the pitch and so deserves some attention.

A Chelsea level player 😁😁

Oh,..Dave, what's occuring?

The problem wasn't Abraham, the problem was lumping long balls to him.

I agree, he needs an attacking midfield player who will create the chances for him, we simply ain’t got one.

Virtually no service, and then very little support. He's a young player who is still developing. Good enough to get in the England squad but even Messi would struggle being isolated.

When was the last time you watched Messi play?

He might struggle by his standards but he'd still make things happen and worry defenders. Ashley Williams put one challenge in on Bony and then had the night off.

Well said Max. Tammy is another player who was highlighted on here as possibly not being suitable unless we could get frequent balls into the box. We cannot do this so his main threat is nulified.
It was obvious that without Bony we could not play balls into the box. Bony's was the first of many pieces of luck that did not go out way.
There was nothing wrong in the signings if young players like Tammy and Sanches but we needed experience to bring them on. Instead they were signed as first choices and they have suffered as a result.

How much did the Munich lot pay for Sanches?

We should have kept Llorente and brought in a player who was a regular starter rather than Bony and brought Tammy in as the 3rd striker and put Olly McB out on loan. The summer window has been a complete disaster.

When people say ‘even Messi would struggle in this team’ they are using a ridiculously extreme example to make a point. They don’t actually mean Everton/Stoke/Bournemouths defence would have an easy time against him.

Tammy is a very good striker.

But the squad seem clueless at the last third of the field.

He also drops to deep to get the ball (a rookie mistake).

Not yet he isn't. He's got potential, but struggles to impose himself at this level. CB's handle him easily and as others have said, he struggles with the physical side. He's also awful in the air for a tall lad. He's been anonymous regularly recently.

Nice footwork at times though, and he does have potential for sure.

Lets face it, we all slaughtered Gomis for the fruitless time he spent with us as striker, calling him all sorts. Reality was that our midfield capitulation was beginning to take hold then by delivering him nothing in the same way (worse now) that it produces no attacking service and exposed our defence to relentless pressure. Should never have abandoned 4-5-1 and should return ASAP (Dyer/Routs/Ayew/Narshing) WTF do they contribute to our battle.

Yet another championship player. Likely to end up at somewhere like Fulham or QPR

Looks like PC / HJ based our entire attacking strategy this year on 2 failing rookie loanees.

People should stop saying blatantly untrue things to make a point. It undermines their argument.

We'd look a much better side with Messi in it. Thinking that Tammy is merely a victim of the other 10 players poor play is naive. Good centre forwards - even half decent ones like Wilf - improve the team around them.

When your striker isn't making runs, is losing every aerial challenge, when he looks lost and has a touch bigger than Huw's nose... that's not a quality player, no matter what big club pedigree he's carrying.

Gomis was nowhere near as bad a player as most thought.

He was signed to play the lone striker role. It probably would have worked under the old style of play. But we lost our width with Andre Ayew cutting inside all the time. No space to pass in the midfield. No crosses from the wings and two strikers trying to attack the same ball.

That's when we became a shambles and no one at the club has had the know how to put it right since.

Long road ahead.

Although, more accurately, the Jack Cork signing was when we lost out width.

Four midfielders with a winger taken out to accommodate it.

Monk has a lot to answer for.

He's not to blame for three successive managers adopting it since.

People expecting a striker like Abraham to hold the ball up says more about them than it does about him. We've seen this idiocy time and time again, with striker after striker, and yet still they don't grasp it.

If Abraham is playing with his back to goal for most of the game we're doing it wrong. Bony can, he can't. If you're not going to give him passes to attack don't expect him to be as effective as he can be.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Most people on a bloody fans website can see that. Paul Clement obviously can too, why doesn’t he even attempt to do anything about it?

Most people on a fans website can't see that. We've had a succession of strikers going back as far as Jason Scotland who've taken it in the neck from the fans for not holding the ball up despite obviously not being that kind of forward.

Michu wasn't that kind of player either, but had the good fortune to be playing in a team that didn't need him to.
