Baby Steps - We're getting a platform from which to build and plan 22:14 - Nov 29 with 8434 views | TheResurrection | Once again the plan was to contain Chelsea and had they not scored we'd have still been camped on our own 18 yard line never venturing past half way. This is the way Clement wants to approach these almost impossible games and it's arguably our best chance in them. However, even with the over emphasis on shape and lack of risk taking I felt we kept the ball better than we had done in other big matches. Even in the first half. When we do find the courage to pass it about a bit you can see we've still got it there, it's just clearly being suppressed. The last 20 was a breath of fresh air even though Chelsea were getting nervous themselves with their slim advantage. The platform for me was this was an unchanged side, and maybe this was for the first time this season? Sanches was appalling and it's a worry if he's got a must start in his contract. Barring any tired limbs or knocks he should be our only change for Saturday with a fit and raring to go again Tammy coming in and Ayew dropping back into midfield. I thought Mesa was excellent tonight, it's his simple passing that gets us more of the possession we really need to get more used to. I was very surprised and pissed off Clement took him off but maybe it was down to a lack of game time. I actually thought it was Bony coming off to save him for Saturday. But Clement has to keep faith with Mesa, we can all see, well most of us can, that he really could be that missing link. His passing is crisp and perfectly weighted and I like the way he uses his body well to shield the ball and shape up for the pass. I hope to God he gets as long a run as he's fit or needs, he could be key. Other special mentions to our 2 superb centre backs, Fer and Ollie McBurnie, there's a player in there and with him on in the last 20 I genuinely thought we had a chance, he's a born finisher, we know that, and yeah, I know this isn't the U-23's but give him a sight at goal and I think he'll take it. We can go into Stoke feeling a little sorry Routs couldn't pick out Bony with that cross, we really could have nicked a draw. That would have been fortunate I know, but even the narrow loss should give us that something to build on. ------------------------- Fabianski -------------------------- Naughts ---- Van De Hoorn ---- Mawson ---- Olsson -------------------------- Mesa ------------------------------ ---------- Ki ------------------------------- Carroll ---------- -------------------------- Ayew ------------------------------- ----------- Tammy ----------------- Bony ------------------ If there are to be more changes I would consider Fer for another start and Clucas in left midfield instead of Carroll. Big, big game Saturday.

Baby Steps - We're getting a platform from which to build and plan on 23:03 - Nov 29 with 1577 views | barry_island | Sadly our reverse gear start to the season means we now need giant leaps rather than baby steps. Nothing about our club suggests we are able or even looking to get out of reverse.

Baby Steps - We're getting a platform from which to build and plan on 23:20 - Nov 29 with 1523 views | jasfan | I think the manager is all to aware of the lack of attacking threat in the squad and so he sets the team up like it's a damage limitation exercise. I can understand this to some extent when playing against the bigger sides and also as confidence is low and a hammering could dent that even further. However, the negativity and the rigid way we have been playing has got to change, as it's pretty obvious to us all that you can't win matches unless you score goals! As to the side above, on Saturday I'd like to see Clucas given another chance instead of Carroll. With Bony starting to hold the ball up around the D of the penalty area we just need someone to get a shot away but without a number 10 we need to look at other possibilities. Despite all Ayew's efforts he simply has little to no end product. I feel a bit sorry for the player as he looks a real trier, but Fer at the tip of the diamond could be a better option instead. McBurnie showed good ball retention, linking and movement in his short cameo appearance from the bench and is also a bit of an unknown quantity for opposition teams. With such limited attacking options open to the manager I'd like to see him given more opportunities. Finally, Dyer is competitive, forward thinking and will actually shoot from outside the box. Inclusion of any one of these in the attacking third might at least give us a chance of some shots - he says, clutching at straws. lol. [Post edited 29 Nov 2017 23:23]

Oh he will for sure, sorry Chris, but we had some quality in that team last season and that's why we survived by the skin of our teeth, we have none this term. I'm not saying that we should not have cashed in on Siggy and Llorente as we needed a change of direction. But we replaced them with garbage, and i don't just blame Jenkins for that. I blame Clement as well., What coach would seriously allow a player who had scored 50 goals in 3 years, in Spain, including 18 in 36 in La Liga the year before he came to us to us to go out on fvcking loan! He should have spent pre season building the lads confidence up instead of branding him a failure and moving him on. That's would good coaches do, but instead we're left with McBurnie, and only then because his loan moved to Barnsley failed! So now all we're left with is a carcass for more or less every other team in the Prem to pick the meat off in every game from now until May. Fvckin shocking state we've become mate.

I haven't viewed his post match comments tonight Richard, but i doubt they would be inspiring to the players who are not fit to wear the shirt through no fault of their own. [Post edited 29 Nov 2017 23:34]

He may never be ready. Needs to go play every week at a lower level for now, i think. Hard to learn at the top level with just minutes here and there. |

Bony looked class in the previous 2 games coming deep to get the ball, with some superb hold up play and linking. Trouble is he's not going to be as clinical if he plays deeper. Maybe he can forge a good partnership with Tammy. That's the last straw to clutch to. Alternatively we could be seeing him start a phase like Scotland did. He worked his socks off at Wigan but stopped playing his natural game and rarely got in the box. And then he slowed down and ended up a pretty static chubster at Ipswich. Time will tell. We really need the old Bony back though.

If that's the case why haven't we gone all guns blazing at the likes of Newcastle,Watford,Brighton and Bournemouth at home then.

At about 85 minutes last night, Bony was back in the left back position winning the ball back, 30 yards from our goal. It’s no wonder we never create any chances when our only striker is playing ridiculously deep. In fairness to him he won his fair share of long balls last night but there was never anyone anywhere near him to capitalise from it. Well, other than when Ayew got involved and then refused to pass to anyone.
Baby Steps - We're getting a platform from which to build and plan on 08:27 - Nov 30 with 1214 views | MrSwerve | Our first shot was what, on 65 mins? And it was off target. I don't care who we're playing, but we're supposedly a premier league club. We used to trouble the top teams even with the side that got promoted! It's naive to look at that 1-0 scoreline and be happy with it. Chelsea will be disappointed that it didn't end up 3-0 with the chances they had. We looked absolutely dire...and if we're happy with these 'baby steps' game after game, we'll find ourselves bottom with 5 games to go. No urgency in our play, no passion, no end product. If Stoke beat us, Clement has to go. I'm amazed he's still here to be honest. I think he's had enough time now. If we keep him, it's very likely that we'll go down...we've got nothing to lose.

Thought Mawson was immense tonight - if he'd been on the home side he'd have got MOTM in my opinion. For all their swagger, Chelsea made the most of a deflection and if we had got a draw it wouldn't be undeserved. Start with the same team except for Abraham instead of Sanches, and have a real go at Stoke, and we can get a much needed win.

Don't know whether Leon is having an input, but we are looking different the last two games since his appointment. For whatever reason Clement has woken up and realised he needs to do something. The side were different on Saturday and in fairness did well under the circumstances last night.

Did well? Defended well but that alone doesn't win you games. It was dire and shocking to watch a Swansea City side play like that. We all have an opinion but mine is that's nowhere near good enough.

Baby Steps - We're getting a platform from which to build and plan on 09:29 - Nov 30 with 1073 views | karnataka | I'm not convinced about having Ayew at the tip of the diamond. He works extremely hard and is difficult to dispossess but his decision making is very poor and a #10 needs to be good at looking up and threading balls through for strikers or other players running beyond him. Far too many times, Ayew chooses to try and bulldoze his way through 2 or 3 defenders around the edge of the box and at this level, it never works because the majority of defenders are too good. If Wilf & Tammy start, Ayew goes on the bench for me rather than shoehorn him into a position he's not suited for. The only one who plays with his head up and is capable of short crisp passes into feet is Mesa. Has he ever played as a #10? He would put short balls in for Wilf & Tammy or spot overlaps by Olssen & Naughton. Couldn't be worse than what we've tried so far. Put Leon in as DM, Mesa as AM and that just leaves 2 starting berths for any 2 from Ki, Carroll, Fer & Clucas. [Post edited 30 Nov 2017 9:30]

We should always be trying to improve taking 'baby steps'. however, we're well passed the work in progress bit this season and with clement. Its not working, it hasn't worked this season even if he did have the quality of the team ripped out and not replaced. Will sacking clement make a difference. To attitude it might but will that be enough? Personally i think he has to go. followed by HJ. Same old same old.

We aren't and haven't been since Laudrup got his P45 by email. However, we are where we are thanks to our buffoon of a DoF - treading water and on the verge of finally drowning. A short-term solution is needed to keep us up before a root and branch reform changes the culture of the club - starting with Jenkins and our laughably entitled recruitment team fûcking off and a manager with vision taking over. Pulis for a season and a half with Gonzo sidelined? Fück aye!
