Another 2 year stint as a number 2 where he'll play a couple of cup games a year. Great life!

I can't imagine we've signed a 30 year old keeper from a club in Belgium to stick him on the bench behind a 21 year old.

Stunning performance from Leicestershire's Louis Kimber yesterday in the County Championship at Sussex.

243 runs off 127 balls, 43 off a single over for most ever (math doesn't math, he had 3 extra balls due to no balls), highest ever score from a number 8 or later in the batting order.

T20-esque batting numbers.

Despite all that they still lost.

Transfer rumours 2024
at 16:37 26 Jun 2024

I don't think so because normally they're announced followed up with something along the lines of it being formal once the player's contract has expired with the previous club.

Been a few transfers along those lines already.

Would QPR beat England ??
at 16:36 26 Jun 2024

We all love Ilias but ...he wouldn't, would he? There's a reason Alexander-Arnold plays for Liverpool and Ilias plays for QPR.

England have been terrible so far in this tournament but they'd wipe the floor with QPR.

If you want to see what a team full of second tier players looks like in a European international tournament...look at Scotland.

Transfer rumours 2024

If Willock had a deal elsewhere it'd have been announced by that club by now so it looks like he's going to join the ranks of the unemployed and hope someone picks him up eventually.

Big risk to take.

England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 v Slovenia 🇸🇮 Match Thread
at 08:37 26 Jun 2024

I couldn't watch the game last night as was out but was listening to it on the radio.

I think Nix has a point, a consequence of this 24 team tournament going into 16 is that it rewards negative football - ie don't lose and you're guaranteed to go through pretty much, even without winning an actual game (as Denmark and Slovenia have just proved...) As a result loads of teams, including what I'd call Tier 2 nations like Slovenia and Serbia, just stick 10 men behind the ball, hope to nick something on a counter attack, and bore everyone to death.

That said, it is down to the "better" nations as England claim to be to have to be able to find a way to win.

I imagine as well everyone saw Scotland open up in game 1 and have Germany run a big fat German pork sword right through them and that clearly gets across the message that keeping games tight is the way to go for the smaller nations.

It will be interesting from the next round onwards when its win or go home. Teams will have to open up and that should create opportunities, and actually playing better teams should be easier to play against.

That said this all has the feel of 2010 South Africa to me - quite a well hyped England team, the manager at the time was seen as indomitable, we then struggled through the group stage with 5 points and 1 win, fans booed at stadiums, Wayne Rooney was caught on TV moaning about them, then got battered in the next round by an excellent young German team.

The bit I can't get my head around is that they seem not to have thought about how sophisticated betting companies software is, and how a "small" (figuratively speaking) £100 bet would make moves on a market like that that it would enable betting companies to spot irregular patterns straight away.

I mean...its actually really, really, really stupid.

In real time I thought the penalty was a real good block, then saw the replays. Ouch. You can't complain at that.

Social media has a lot to account for here too, lots of Facebook pages (and no doubt TikTok and the likes younger folk use) popping up to show the kids pretending to be hard, all being more idiotic than the other for the clout for them to show off.

Just think of the amount of police resources these idiots suck up every Saturday.

Given they've just been rejected by Liam Rosenior, I can't see them going for Marti where they'd have to pay money, or Marti wanting to go there if someone who is jobless has turned them down because he didn't like what was on offer.

Am I right in thinking that at his age even if he left on a free at the end of a contract, any club picking him up would have to pay some level of compensation for him?

Willock a bit different as he's mid-20s now.

The EFL officially highest attended European league after Premier League.
at 12:37 12 Jun 2024

Lies, damned lies and statistics.

The Championship, and English football pyramid in general, is incredibly well supported compared to their equivalents around the globe. Way better.

But its incredibly disingenuous to suggest its the 2nd best attended when the number of fixtures it has dwarfs other leagues.

Total Championship fixtures - 552
Total Bundesliga / 18 team fixtures - 306
Total Premiership / 20 team fixtures - 380

In this instance average is a far better indicator.

Of course saying "2nd highest in total" is no doubt some useful marketing for someone trying to flog TV and sponsorship deals!

QPR Women

Still bloody throw that lead away in Bend It Like Beckham though don't we.

Great news, I think integrating all sections of the club more can only be a good thing. Am I right in thinking this set of QPR Women were a new set up, from a previous QPR Women who a few years ago broke away and became their own club under a new name due to lack of support? Hopefully lessons were learned so that doesn't happen again.
