Defending crosses
at 20:36 1 Sep 2024

I wouldn't judge our ability to defend crosses on the Luton games. They have 4 or 5 huge players and probably put in more crosses than any other team. I thought we did as well as we could although there were a couple of times when Colback was marking Morris but fortunately the cheating bar steward chose to action his much practised swallow dive. What is it in these modern football shirts that, when pulled, makes the legs disappear beneath them.

I don't think Newcastle will be too happy for him to be a stand-by player. I have a feeling that JCS might get snapped up by a PL club and we move Dunne back to CB. Hope not - I guess we'll know more when the teams are announced tonight

He might have run alot but when was it ever effective? A bit more practising at getting in the right positions would have helped. Never that good in the air either IMO

Ridiculous all this criticism of Santos - he's been here 5minutes. Who cares what his past is - he didn't cost anything and deserves a chance. He just scored v Luton - nice one.

Poor old Birmingham - we've off-loaded them with a whole load of failures - Dozzell, Roberts, Sanderson, Laird and now the non-center forward center forward Dykes. Do they not do their homework and look at the stats for these players.

Utter rubbish - of course MC is involved with who he wants to get rid of and who we sign. Obviously, Nourry gets the deals done and the finances.

Smyth
at 20:40 25 Aug 2024

His diving is embarassing. He has already been labelled as a diver and the opposition will for sure let the ref know. Our penalty count is so low. I think MC summed up our play vs. 10 man Plymouth as not patient enough. Sums up Smyth who is skillful but too gung-ho (dictionary meaning...unthinkingly enthusiastic and eager). His finishing needs work - he always shoots at the keeper - try going round the keeper! His crossing is always hopeful - try cutting it back for a change. MC will soon lose patience if he carries on as he is going.

So funny. I think they got a point! He looked genuinely scared with the QPR guy came over.
Genuine fan - loved it.

4 minutes.
at 19:25 24 Aug 2024

Can't stand the ref and everything said about him is correct but he got all the big decisions right today - 2 red cards, no penalty against JCS. He even let play go when Smyth and both their wingers throw themselves down to the ground.

4 minutes was a joke but I think the extra minutes are worked out by the fourth official or maybe I am wrong on this.

Plymouth time wasting was not in the same league as Preston / Ben Pearson.

Don't think he spoilt the game at all - I thought it was entertaining from start to finish. I was on the edge of my seat.

Dykes is our best striker.

Can't believe you are serious. Dykes has hidden behind defenders for 3 years - gets the occasional goal when you least expect it. Hiddeous hair and tattoos. Time to move on.

Surprised if he would move to Hearts - more likely Rangers or Birmingham

oh, sorry JeffRanger. saw a few clips and he looked fast and got all his shots in early.
Is that better for you?

Just my opinion.

Saw a few clips of Madsen - thought he looked slow and most of his shots were blocked. We already have Mr Dykes fulfilling that role, though maybe Saturday was a turning point in his Qpr stay now that we have got 2 excellent wide men supplying chances?

Eze release clause

Skipp to Leicester for 25m - the world has gone mad - one of the least talented players ever to play in the premiership. About the same level as Karl Henry.

If he is worth 25m then Eze is worth at least 75m. Hopefully that will free up a bit of cash so Spurs can buy Eze.

Eze release clause
at 11:04 17 Aug 2024

Nardi had an excellent pre-season. It is harsh to blame him for WBA's first goal but you are right that if it had been Begovic in goal, he would have been slaughtered on LFW. Walsh played well against Cambridge except for giving a goal away. He is defintely a future first team keeper but Nardi, for me, looks better at this stage.

For god's sake, give Santos a chance - he's come here and hasn't been given a chance to play full back yet which is his position.

Stop those crosses
at 11:42 16 Aug 2024

My message to the team on Saturday is STOP the crosses coming in - or at least the occasional one. From what I have seen in the friendlies and the first game, both full backs / wingers have been useless at stopping the crosses. Dunne and Smyth combination doesn't seem to work as a defensive unit. Paal and Koli are way too weak defensively. What has happened to Paal? It is probably because he doesn't have an outlet like Chair to play alongside so his main game now is defending which he is crap at.

I don't want to criticise Dunne but I think the full back experiment may be over. Put him back in the center and let's get a full back with a bit of pace. I think Santos needs a chance - he came here as a right back and he hasn't been played there once.

I really hope I'm wrong but we could easily be on the wrong end of a thrashing on Saturday. Hopefully MC can come up with something - maybe we go all out attack.

Alfie Lloyd

I like the way he tries to take on players BUT he does suffer from a lack of close control and his final ball is pretty dire (like most of our current attacking players). Can't see him making it at Championship level unfortunately. Think he will be way behind Saito and Dembele.

Frey is so knackered he is about to puke - Lloyd is exhausted. EDB has been strolling around doing sweet FA and looking half-arsed - only 75 mins gone, being outplayed and definitely out-fought. Embarrassing

Brighton Reflection
at 12:59 4 Aug 2024

No goals in 3 friendlies is very worrying. I wouldn't necessarily blame the forwards as it is hard to imagine a team giving less service to the front players. Our only attacking source is through Smyth and his final ball and finishing is pretty poor. We need young, enthusiastic midfielders / inside forwards to make runs into the box - this gives more space to the front men. It is too easy to mark the lone forward in the box. We should learn from how Brighton played it right through the middle of our static defence in the first half. Collback and Field play it too safe. Very disappointed with Andersen so far - just hoping he is saving himself for next Saturday. From what I've seen of Varane, he looks good on the ball but maybe a little lightweight. Definitely not the type of player busting a gut to get into the box. Hopefully, with a full house at LR, we'll turn things around.
