I genuinely dont know, but what's happened to VAT and items subject to it?

Also, there are more things that people have to pay for that weren't there or, costed as much, 14 years ago. For example: people didn't have to pay private companies to provide security for their homes, as the police no longer exist; pay an additional lump on their council tax for elderly care; (Ealing); TV licences for older people were free; tertiary education all spring to mind.

I'm sure there are a whole heap more things that now require people to foot the bill for that they weren't paying for in the past. This is, in effect, passing taxes to people.

BIden v Trump - and we thought our options were poor !!
at 12:19 29 Jun 2024

I'm the biggest idiot on this site!

When Trump was 1,500/1 I told people to back him. Laughed at by all and sundry and thus, when that prat won it was a double blow for not having put some money on him.

When he lost, and then tried to orchestrate a coup, I said to Mrs. PH, he'll 'kin win in 2024. Instead of learning from history, I doubled down on my idiocy, and didn't wager.

His 'second coming' will be an even bigger disaster this time, he'll be an even bigger spoiled brat than before.

The Democrats had four years to sort out his successor. Instead, we're lumbered with a doddery old guy who is clearly confused. I am not sure what the hell happened to Kamala Harris since 2020, it's probably all too late now.

We will be truly f....d by this cretin, and his first act will be to pardon himself and the morons that follow him. I would not put it beyond him to try to change the constitution to allow him to run a third time, and neither would I rule out 'civil unrest' there either.

Ditto Brian.

It is without a shadow of doubt, the single most boring sports event I've ever attended. You can wait ages and then...whoosh, they're gone! To be fair, it's only when you see them whoosh past you do you truly appreciate the speed of the fockers!!

And, yet, it's strangely compelling, albeit that it's really a sport to watch on the TV.

Well, depending on whether I'm off to Girona or not, I'll watch. However, if after 10pm BST, the first thing I see is Dimbleby stating the exit polls are predicting the present incumbents will hold on, off the TV goes!

Voted on Monday, hopefully 11 days is sufficient time for my ballot paper to arrive.

Simple pleasures
at 04:44 29 Jun 2024

Thirsty, I can go to a tap and drink clean water as opposed to not having the option or, having to schlep miles for a drop or, only having dirty water to drink.

It's dark, it's cold or hot, whereupon I can flick a switch and voila, it's not! Living where I do, I have truly fresh air to breath.

Having lived/been in many places around the world where such things either don't exist or, are beyond many people, I stopped treating water, power, and air as my right years ago, and view them as luxuries I'm blessed to enjoy.

Do we have any info on when the friendlies are going to be played?

I know the offish says they're behind closed doors, but any ITK stuff/thoughts as to whether 'leeway' will be shown?

Short drive there/back, so if we can't jib-in, any suggestions for what to do in Girona instead?

Panenka...just gets better!
at 06:04 28 Jun 2024

Article on the BBC about that penalty that's worth a read.

Bit I found amazing was that in the event of the final ending in a draw, it was scheduled to go to a replay, however, a few days before the final, the Germans approached the Czechs and asked if they'd agree to penalties instead.

Thinking they'd fair better in a sudden death shoot out as opposed to a second match, they agreed, and the rest is history.

The reason being: several German players had holidays booked for immediately after the tournament! A classic case of the Germans having their towels out on the loungers before 'czeching' the weather!!

Dear Santa,

I know I'm a bit early this year, but could you arrange for Jorden Archer's agent to become my agent please.

Yours sincerely

Thing I also remember about that Cambridge game: all sorts of root vegetables being thrown into our end from the allotments behind us.

A lot of us have predicted this and seen his limitations at the knockout stage of tournaments. For me, he definitely should have stepped back after Qatar.

However, some of the vitriol aimed at him is ridiculous! Overall, he's done a good job after inheriting a mess, but I rather think he's ruined his legacy by staying too long. For that, the FA is as culpable. Still, if I met him, I'd buy him a beer...i assume it would be a half.

That said, we are in the easy half!!

I think GS will go after this, and then we'll get some insight from within about his management during this tournament.

Shame he's stayed one too long, and spoiled his legacy in a way. He'd done a great job after inheriting rubbish, and got us bloody close. However, he's way too cautious to win deep into a tournament, but he should be thanked and moved upstairs.

Been banging on about how appalling Barrywhomresidesintheloft Frederick's have been, and his reply was pure GSesque...we've qualified!

Thank God that someone has stepped up, and I'm also glad we're keeping Spaceman and Monkey Roots' powders dry for the season ahead.

Feeling more confident already: England 2, TBC 0.
